  2. Don't be surprised if we make a play for Cloke . He'll be a restricted free agent and apart from his salary we could get him for nothing . If we can make room for him in our salary cap he's an outside chance of coming over . With him at CHF it increases our chances of playing finals quite a lot . . Judging by how Neeld and co went after Clark (and by how much we were prepared to pay him) I think it's on the cards . It's a bit of a long shot in a lot of people's eyes but he's the sort of star we so desperately need . Cheers

Yeah , it's an odd move but then again we are talking about Rex Ryan . He thrives on confrontation . To me it looks like if Sanchez has one poor game , he'll be replaced . Same treatment for Tebow . Rex wants to keep his options open but he probably won't be happy with either . Sanchez doesn't like running with the ball and Tebow does so the contrast is there . Sanchez throws better but he's no A grader . Just another strange Rex decision . And the New Yorkers will boo Tebow at their 1st opportunity . Heard Tony Kornheiser use the term "Tim-sanity" today . This has all the hallmarks of turning into a circus . Good for us viewers though . Cheers
  4. Ha ha , my problem with tipping comps in the past has been tipping Collingwood . It makes me feel rather unclean . Cheers
  5. Dinner with Joffa .
  6. Latest single from "The Black Keys" . Macca 7.0
  7. In . Alias Macca !
  8. What about budgies ? And would I have to change their names to Nergal and Deumos ? Cheers
  9. I'm never very good at these sort of things, so I hope people see this song I've posted for our beloved Jimmy in the right light. Macca 2.5 ... for Jimma ...
  10. Yep , perhaps I am being a bit oversensitive 'dc' . Happy to admit that by the way . Doesn't mean I'm wrong , it probably means I go into bat for minority causes sometimes . What this does prove though is that some groups may be prejudiced against . Now whether that prejudice is fair or not is debatable . Of course , there is that "Serengeti plain" argument . For what it's worth I don't reckon Matt Rendell is a racist . Some good may come of this anyway . The issue should be brought out into the open . His words came out the wrong way . He said the words privately , not publicly , but the effect ends up being the same . Sometimes you have to apologise in life even though you believe you've done nothing wrong . We've probably all had to do that . Lively debate though 'dc' and happy to agree to disagree . Cheers Edit - Matt Rendell apparently made another apology today .
  11. I'd maybe take that person to task if they said something like that to me ! How would they ever really know ? And that's my point - how on earth would these recruiters know if somebody came from a good family or not ? Do they do psychological tests on all the family members as well ? Do they somehow find out about the "Skeletons in the closets" ? My guess is that this recruiter "bias" has a lot to do with how many parents are living at home . I've had many discussions with various people over the years on this very issue and this is the only conclusion we can come up with . Cheers
  12. Ok , I misinterpreted that whole positive/negative thing . 'The good family" bit I don't really see as a positive anyway . It could end up "Ruling a line" through many potential draftee's . I think a lot of people could fob the comment off as "That's just something that they say" but I see it differently . These recruiters should stop saying it in my opinion . Given the whole furore of the "Matt Rendell" saga I'm betting a lot these recruiters will be very careful with what they've got to say about a potential draftee . We now know there's a fairly hefty price to pay for possibly "overstepping the mark" . In my earlier posts I indicated that I didn't think that Rendell should have been sacked . Way too heavy handed in my opinion . What this comes down to is whether we see these type of remarks as damaging or not . There's 2 camps . And each side probably won't budge . Cheers
  13. Well , not sure about the cynicism bit . I can only comment on what I hear . The jury's out on whether Matt Rendell's comments were positive . Many would see them as negative . And we arrive back at "interpretation" and "opinion" 'dc' . I'm happy to accept the other side of the argument by the way . Often with these things , there's no changing people's minds . It's like religion and politics . Better to let sleeping dogs lie - after a time . Cheers
  14. Yep , we'd go mad trying to figure it all out . Jim has taught us how to be better people . Just by living his life . Cheers
  15. Sorry to hear about all that 'dl' . Yeah , I think we're all a little bit edgy right now . I don't like the unfairness that is thrown at us sometimes . Cheers mate
  16. There lies the problem dc , if we allow comments like "He comes from a good family" to "go through to the keeper" then it stands to reason that we end up with comments like "We might only want to recruit indigenous players with one white parent" . I see a connection . And I don't like it . It's dangerous ground and it takes us back to a bygone age . Cheers
  17. Well there ya go hey . I haven't followed the Dustin Martin debate 'dl' but I'll take your word for it . Cheers
  18. Ha ha , the comment is often a throwaway line by recruiters but it probably sums them up quite well . They obviously look at all aspects of a potential draftee's background . That's their job I suppose but it seems unfair to me . I mean , do they put a line through a player because the "Dad" left the family home ? Or the "Brother" uses drugs ? What's next ? Selective breeding ? To me , each potential draftee should be judged on whether he can play footy or not . All clubs by now should have measures in place to cater for an individuals needs . Maybe some clubs don't do that very well . Maybe that's the other issue we should be looking at . Cheers
  19. Yeah dl , I did edit my post to include the "sacking" part of the discussion . I agree with you somewhat in this area . The AFL should have handled it better . A sledgehammer approach which I don't agree with . The issue should/could have been handled behind closed doors . Mediation , understanding and education . Cheers
  20. There would be a number of indigenous kids that would be thinking they may not have a chance of being drafted to an AFL club right now . Based on the fact that may not have one white parent . That's why Matt Rendell's comment was so damaging . Whether he was taken out of context or made the comment privately has now become irrelevant . He had a chance to apologise properly and he didn't . I think we'll find in the near future that Matt Rendell will apologise unconditionally . Especially if he wants to return to the football industry . I can't understand why recruiters would be thinking along these lines anyway . We're supposed to be living in a more enlightened age . Whilst I'm not labeling Matt Rendell a racist , his reference to "One white parent" is in my opinion . However , I do believe Matt being sacked seems a fair bit unfair . Mediation and education should have been looked at first . One more point . For a number of years now we've been hearing from recruiters about how a certain potential draftee comes from "A good family" . Whilst it's not a racist comment I still find it somewhat offensive . And so do most people I speak to about the issue . Cheers
  21. Can we please just let people show their respect with some heartfelt words . Keep the debate on other matters for another time . Thank you
  22. Rest in peace Jimmy A truly wonderful human being You did so much for our club and for the Reach foundation . Love to Sam and the kids and family . Not forgetting family and friends in Ireland . You left more than a couple of legacies . All of them great . Though I never had the pleasure of meeting you I'll always remember you as a thorough Gentleman . We will always miss you .
  23. God bless you Jim , keep fighting mate . All our thoughts are with you . Get well Jimma .
  24. Yeah , though I think your Motor Racing point was a good example where more money spent can/could equal better performance . But , I could think of some sporting pursuits and other non sporting pursuits where the less fuss , the better . I reckon if nothing else , we will run out games well . And that should get us a couple more wins . Cheers
  25. Yeah , you're right . I've seen plenty of burst players over the years . I think all players will need a certain amount of endurance no matter what rule changes they bring in . Cheers
