A Day at the Races
I haven't kept track Wadda but at a guess I reckon we might have ended up at 65: 30 - 11 - 7 If I ever get the time I'll get the exact configuration of numbers but those figures wouldn't be far off the mark ... we started off all guns blazing then kept getting 1 winner only and occasionally 2 winners with the odd placing here and there. My strategy is to back each horse for the win or at least include any of our picks in a trifecta ... for instance, today I had my biggest wager on 'Streets of Avalon', another small wager on 'Smartedge' and included Kementari in a trifecta. As well as multi them up with another small wager. All up, I doubled my total outlay with our best bets with only the 1 winner out of the 4 total bets. I should have got the trifecta in the Kementari race but used a somewhat poor strategy. Anyway, I'll try and make a habit of posting up our win & trifecta records along with a few replays and videos on a Monday or a Tuesday. Along with of course the link to the Australian Group & Listed Races The Spring Carnival really swings into gear quite early these days ... In 2 weeks time (Aug 18th) we'll see a total of 10 Group races across Randwick & Caulfield where Winx is the star attraction in her own event - The Group 1 Winx Stakes (formerly the Warwick Stakes) The race is now worth $500k.

Smartedge flew home and finished 3rd ... all our 3 picks could have easily saluted. Best Bet strike rate (new season) 3: 1-1-1

Well done on your multi Wadda ... I broke even very early on but only had 1 more collect with bets already laid on. Got a number of winners from the experts tips (Gator, Hutchy, JJ & Brad Davidson) but no trifecta's. But I had a feeling things were going to go that way. And after re-viewing the Missile Stakes a few times I reckon Kementari was a good thing beaten. In any event it won't have lost any of its admirers. I've gone again with Self Sense in a multi with a couple of Rugby League line bets ... there's talk of taking Self Sense to the UK for the lucrative jumps season in early 2019 and why not? ... the horse is in great form over the flat or the jumps. The Grand National Hurdle is on at 2.20pm tomorrow Anyway, for those who haven't seen the race, here's the replay of the Missile Stakes ...

Pierata had the ideal run with Kementari held up a tad ... there's not a lot between the 2 although Kementari would probably turn the tables next time. I wouldn't say it was a good thing beaten although that argument does have merit. They might both get a run in the Everest with 3 spots up for grabs ... by my reckoning they ran in the low 01:08's so the time was slick enough. Lanciato ran an eye-catching run. The 1400m & 1600m Group 1's in the Spring are something to look forward to with these 2 along with Shoals, Alizee, Santa Ana Lane et al competing.

A Day at the Races
Looked the winner a fair way from home ... had a bit on at $4.80 so playing with house money for the rest of the afternoon. A BM70 seemed unders for Streets of Avalon. Well placed by the connections. Fingers crossed for Smartedge & Kementari

A Day at the Races
Spin won but the jockey had to go to work on the horse. The 3rd race at the Valley has some likely types running around and is probably the best race on the card ... I've avoided the race as there are probably 6 or 7 genuine chances ?

A Day at the Races
On debut as well was the winner - Mig Energy. Very impressive ... another one to watch hey Wadda - The Black Book is filling up fast!

A Day at the Races
Ha ha! Well it's good to see that my relentless promotion of overseas racing is having an effect Wadda ?

A Day at the Races
Sandown Race 5 (tomorrow) JJ's tips are up at Racing.com. His best bet was scratched much like Gator's was. I'm still following both tipsters though mainly because at this the time of the year the form is very tricky to read. Even the Missile Stakes is a difficult affair with so many decent horses returning from spells ... I've boxed 5 in a trifecta but if Kementari is ready, it should win.

A Day at the Races
I got 25-1 boosted for our combo Wadda although 'Streets of Avalon' has come right in overnight Had a multi 'extra' with our 3 best bets as well as North winning along with 'Self Sense' winning the Grand National tomorrow. Got 100-1 for the 5. But my main chances of winning today is with a few trifectas along with a few straight out win bets. Feeling reasonably confident and am really looking forward to the Missile Stakes.

A Day at the Races
'Lord Barrington' is now out of the last at Moonee Valley as well ... might have a trifecta in that race instead.
-
A Day at the Races
$3.10 for the place is Lord Barrington ... as you're no doubt aware, a 4 pick place multi can often deliver around 20-1 or 25-1 Wadda. A smarter option than a win only multi although you might throw a a quality horse like Kementari in for the win. Letting a multi ride into Sunday's Grand National Hurdle is an option too ... 'Self Sense' is all the rage paying $2 for the win. The Tigers at the -15.5 line looks like getting up too. I've gone away from multi's a fair bit but a place-card multi combined with a couple of sporting head-to head's has some appeal for a small outlay.

A Day at the Races
And both Gator & Hutchy like 'Lord Barrington' at good odds in the lucky last at Moonee Valley ... I got on last night at 15-1 (boosted) ... it's come into $12/$13 boosted but the consensus opinion from the 'Get On' crew was that the horse was quite a deal over the odds.

A Day at the Races
3 big Group 1's raced midweek from Goodwood (UK) ... my main interest is in watching the best of the best run around but also, if any of these horses end up racing in Australia, we'll know a little bit about them. As for the punt, two 2nd's and 1 win! Slightly in front. Those horses that might be brought to our shores to race in the cups are more likely to derive from the Goodwood Cup ... the first video.

A Day at the Races
Yeah the way the trainer was talking indicated that the vet may well scratch 'Trap for Fools' anyway DZ ... it was Gator's best bet
-
A Day at the Races
The trainer of 'Trap For Fools' was on RSN this morning and he mentioned that the horse has an issue with a fetlock and might end up being scratched tomorrow morning. I had the horse as a standout as well DZ but it's better that we now know that it has an issue.

Best bet ... Moonee Valley Race 5 No.5 Streets of Avalon $4.80
-
A Day at the Races
Ha! It's already all systems go for me Wadda ... the Missile Stakes to be run at Randwick on Saturday is my kind of trifecta race - a 10 horse field only but the quality is there with Kementari on top. I fancy Showtime to run a good race first up whilst 'She Will Reign's' first up form is enormous - 4 from 4.

A Day at the Races
Video of a couple of Group 1's from the weekend (overseas) and it's worth having another look at Vega Magic blitzing them in the Bletchingly Stakes likewise Nature Strip in the Lightning Stakes It's also worth noting that the confirmed Cox Plate starter 'Benbatl' won a Group 1 2000m race out of Germany on the weekend as well ... the time was a tad slow but the tracks are quite often on the dead side of good in Europe so it's more about the ratings.

A Day at the Races
That's a couple of smart bankers in a multi Wadda ... good luck with the other 2 picks although I see the Rabbitohs have got a bit of work ahead. My only other bet this weekend is in the Group 1 2400m Stakes race at Epsom just after midnight. Cracksman is up against Poet's Word & Crystal Ocean whilst Rostropovich might get into the finish.

A Day at the Races
To Gator's credit he did tip Nature Strip & Vega Magic today and that double was paying around about $3.50 early doors (with an odds boost) I bet away from him looking for value but that didn't work! ? Anyway, here's the latest odds for The Everest ... Trapeze Artist 4-1 Nature Strip 5-1 Vega Magic 6-1 Redzel 8-1 Menari 10-1 Kementari 10-1 US Navy Flag 12-1 Shoals 14-1 Santa Ana Lane 14-1 Brave Smash 16-1 In Her Time 16-1 English 20-1 Chatauqua 25-1 Invincible Star 25-1 Estijaab 25-1 Written By 25-1 Redkirk Warrior 40-1 Winx 50-1

A Day at the Races
El Magnificence would have got closer!
-
A Day at the Races
And Nature Strip wins in commanding fashion ... another dead-set candidate for the Everest after that run. Sunlight might have needed the run but the horse was outclassed if we're being honest.
-
A Day at the Races
That is a very good dividend Wadda ... 3-1 odds for the best 2 horses in the race (if you had them in the right order!)
-
A Day at the Races
Vega Magic way way too good ... Everest-like form. Made some good horses look quite ordinary.
