Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
Effectively sacking 180 players means that the elite and those below the elite get to keep most (if not all) of their individual salaries. Where was this talk before the pandemic DJ? Now, the reduced lists are being 'sold' in a different way but I'm not buying I often do go along with the crowd though ... I truly believe that here in this country we are doing a fantastic job in fighting the virus We should be proud of ourselves but we can't relax for a minute

Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
Not if you pay the last 25 players on a list a lot less money and slice a good portion at the top end. As it stands, the elite and those just below the elite would want to keep their salary's intact. It's why the talk is to cut the lists. That's how I see it and ultimately, it would be a short sighted move to cut the lists. And because of the 25%* injury rate the lists probably need to be increased (with greatly reduced salaries - especially at the top end) During these times many will talk through their hip pocket. Which is fair enough but that hip pocket nerve is often difficult to see with all the bs that flies around. * that percentage can be as low as 20% but sometimes up to 30% (injury rate)

Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
They could get rid of the reserves but they'd bring it back down the track. Back 20+ years ago there was a push for the Victorian teams to align themselves with a VFA team but as time went on the AFL teams found they were in need of their own reserves team where they got to call the shots. The Sheffield Shield is subsidised to the tune of over $10Million each season. But the Shield is necessary. As is reserves footy. What happens to the players who don't play in the seniors? Are they billeted out all over the place? They'd just be creating another problem if the reserves were ditched. A short-sighted move.

A Day at the Races
Yeah Joao is in top form ... Zac hasn't had the rides today which changes the dynamic. 2 of Moreira's wins today have been odds-on favourites but of course those shorties can work in multi's. He missed completely on another odds on chance in race 6 - Heza Beauty. Was probably one of the bets of the day too. I thought so anyway ? But that's horse racing for you Wadda.

A Day at the Races
Moreira already has 2 wins from 4 with a host of other chances at Sha Tin today. And he's got a 2nd & 3rd so far as well (for the place punters) The jockey premiership is (pardon the pun) a two horse race with Zac hot on his heels. As previously stated, if you knew which ones were going to win (ridden by either jockey) you'd make a fortune. A place multi involving Moreira only seems logical. But the rivalry is immense between Joao & Zac. I'm trying to remember other such rivalry's. Roy Higgins & Harry White or the Professor & Jimmy Johnson. Of late Williams & Oliver along with Bowman & JMac but there would be a stack more. George Moore was the premier Sydney jockey for decades and there was an interstate rivalry between Moore & Higgins. Jim Cassidy, Darren Beadman & Shane Dye?

A Day at the Races
Yeah I nearly always take the early odds Wadda but will also use booster odds or double your winnings as an add-on And if the odds drift, so be it. The odds on the Best Bets on JHR nearly always tighten though so there doesn't appear to be any risk in going early at all. And with multi's the stake is low to win big. The place card multi takes out the punters lament re the win too. One doesn't miss out if the multi gets up at good odds. Happy punting to all (what else is there to do!)

A Day at the Races
When visiting the JHR site pick a meeting such as Armidale (today) ... then click on 'Horse Racing Tips' and then once in scroll down to 'Best Bet' You'll find that their best bet at Armidale is R4 No.8 Pinnacle Power ... paying $1.40 the place - but I kid you not, it was paying $3.10 the place last night. It is now $3.10 for the win! So you have to be organised and quick (to get the odds) The early evening beforehand works best. So Multi up 3 or 4 place best bets from 3 or 4 meetings and then hopefully they all get into the finish. Nothing organised here or anything like that, just a heads up on another form of multi betting on an individual basis. I did a 4Pick last night and got combined odds of 30-1 (boosted) ... the same 4 picks is now showing 7-1. So to get the odds you've got to get in early before the rush of money comes on those best bets. Of course I do the form on the best bets as well and pluck out the best 3 or 4 picks from 7 or 8 race meetings. Of the country meetings listed on the JHR site yesterday, 7 of the 8 best bets all finished in the placings ... the odds were short on a lot of them but the night before, the odds could have been better (?) Bit of a long post Wadda but with betting, the devil is often in the detail. And the link to the JHR site is included in the post above (or in your quoted post)

A Day at the Races
@Dee Zephyr @Wadda We Sing A little while ago someone here on this thread made mention of the best bet tips given out on the Just Horse Racing Site I took note and over time have noticed that whilst a number of the best bet tips may not win, the standout tips do often run a place. So in place of the sporting multi's the place multi can suffice. The site covers all the country & city meetings and there's often some real each-way value involved with the B/B tips ... and the place dividends can often be $1.70 up to $3.00. And as we well know, a 3pick involving those types of odds can add up to 15-1 or better. What I'm doing is picking out the B/B at 3 of the various meetings. Sometimes 4 meetings if applicable. But I've just started out.

Current Television
A new show that might be worth a look is 'Emergence' ... Here's the IMDb link Channel 9 are showing the series soon or the DVD of the completed first series could be available. Haven't seen the show yet but I like the premise & storyline. Sci-fi/Drama/Mystery And the trailer ... And 'Evil' looks to be interesting as well ... IMDb link

A Day at the Races
I got Kinane up as well thanks to Paul Joice. Joice is good tipster in terms of finding some value runners. Kinane was 10-1 in the early betting but with JMac on board, that was overs DZ. Well done! Clean forgit to tune in ... flat chat at work! Next week! Well done on Fender Wadda

A Day at the Races
Got an early winner with Snitz at Randwick ... bonus of double your winnings (via Laddies) means that the rest of day's bets are with house money Ya gotta love that!

Malcolm Blight wants 4 rule changes
The coaches should never have been given carte blanche Cause & effect leaves the issue squarely in the AFL's court rjay But they (the AFL) have had their eyes firmly fixed on the money ... and now the money is in jeopardy with them now having to borrow $600Million. So now (finally) they are deeply concerned with state of the game ... proverbial hitting the fan will do that.

Hawthorn Demons
No, we are being trolled With the end play of blaming Melbourne supporters. Same pattern from the usual suspects

Hawthorn Demons

Movies/DVD's
I'll take a look Earl ... I've got access to Netflix again and the plot and storyline looks quite interesting re The Expanse. The user reviews in IMDb are extremely favourable and it looks like the show gets better by the season after building slowly for the first half of season 1 (there are 4 completed seasons) Good recommendation.

A Day at the Races
Alex Watson did apparently ... the equivalent of 68 coffees when his caffiene levels tested positive at a past Olympics. Sword fighters need to be alert but that's taking things to extreme levels. One coffee in the evening and I can't fall asleep ... 68 coffees? I'd be climbing the walls screaming "Go Santa Ana Lane, go you good thing!"

Hawthorn Demons
Ridley was the front man of the merger And he was quite vocal about it all. Passionate in fact. You've either got a poor memory or you are talking rot.
-
Hawthorn Demons
I remember Ridley being quite vocal and passionate about the merger. He was all-in on it. So why would he have a public persona of being the front man of the merger yet have doubts about it and the process? Doesn't make sense.

Hawthorn Demons
Perhaps we just need to win more games dl. Financially we've posted up profit's in 11 of the last 13 seasons. With 1 finals appearance in that same time frame. But to win more games we need to excel at list building. And to be honest, we've been amateurish at list building for long periods of time (from the Smith years until when Barassi took over and from about 2004 (or thereabouts) through to when Roos took over) The latest bout of poor list building still lingers ... we have a dearth of hard-nosed experienced & talented players (late 20's) who can lead by example and show the way. In 3 or 4 years the current early to mid 20's group (that have talent) will be in their late 20's. And if we continue to recruit well we'll end up with a more balanced list that can contend. All the rest of it falls into place if we're run well from the top.

Hawthorn Demons
And condemn those who railroaded us members with their proxy votes and rigged system (Dallas Brooks hall being far too small for starters) Ridley was at the helm too which made the whole fiasco even harder to understand. A Demon great who probably should have stepped aside to let others try and make a go of it. As it was, he was eventually replaced and we did make a go of it. And we're still here.

Malcolm Blight wants 4 rule changes
Yeah they did throw it DJ but there was this bit that started the ball rolling ... The Bulldogs players let the ball dribble out of their hands once tackled (in congestion) Which in turn created more congestion with the process being repeated (the dribble bit) ... eventually the ball came out to an outside runner. So we got 5 minutes of a rolling maul and 30 seconds of actual football. Great. Prior to the congestion era a player would win possession and simply handpass the ball to an outside runner who then kicked the ball to position in a positive fashion (without all the congestion and mindless possessions)

The irony of the Brisbane/Fitzroy merger is that Brisbane have been propped up by the AFL for over 2 decades. Ongoing with large amounts of money thrown their way No such money was thrown Fitzroy's way of course. The thinking has changed dramatically from League HQ's and now all the clubs are financially protected. It's just a real pity that the same AFL has overseen the decline in the actual sport as a spectacle (unless watching scramble-ball ... congestion-City) does it for you. There won't be any mergers once things are up and running again ... downsizing across the board is well and truly on the cards though The broadcast rights money could be greatly reduced and as a flow on effect, the salary cap reduced as well. Along with FD numbers etc etc And the league might even make a concerted effort to fix the sport as a spectacle. If the MFC ceased to operate most demon fans I know would walk away from the sport.

A Day at the Races
I see your point Wadda but even when I recognise the other choices in a race, I look away. Just like the footy, all the other horses are the enemy (place or win) ... for instance, if Super Seth runs a place but in the process blocks Santa Ana Lane's run, then Super Seth can go to hell!!! Haha ?
-
Malcolm Blight wants 4 rule changes
They've ruined the sport as it is. They should be told to shut up. End of story. Mind you the incompetent custodians (the AFL) have stood idly by and let them turn the sport into an unholy mess. As for the 'leave the game alone' & 'let the game evolve' types, that horse has well and truly bolted. The coaches have redesigned the sport and have been allowed to do it The issue is not the rusted on types ... to them it's just footy. But those who have switched off or become disenfranchised are the real worry. I agree with Blight but I'd go even harder. 25 metres for the length of the kick (for a mark), rotations down to 10 or 15 per team (per match) and 16 a side. Now, I'm in the minority but that minority is growing. And that minority needs to be brought back to the sport, not criticised for their views. And I find it interesting that this pandemic has created an air of change with footy. About time I say.

A Day at the Races
In a top class sprint race there's often any number of chances but the class usually prevails. Santa is drawn to do no work and just needs a bit of daylight to come storming home and win. And the horse is definitely looking for 1400m. If the race was over 1200m the no.1 barrier might be a hindrance. Pierata, Bivouac & Dreamforce are the dangers as I see it. Super Seth (JMac) the next best? Fierce Impact & Brandenburg have claims as well. The All Aged is a real good line up this time around. A good betting race. And I was wondering what Roy & HG were up to ... thanks for the heads-up Wadda.
