AFL Broadcasting article
I'm a film maker. Everything written in the article is accurate IMHO. It goes without saying on 'Land that the game is appallingly covered by the broadcasters and commentary is horrific. Try explaining the game to an American just from what's shown on the television. It's impossible. Now go to the ground and explain it during play. Immediate understanding. It beggars believe that channel 7 have tried to bring us 'sounds of the game' (i.e. a player miked up on the ground) and the player doesn't say anything. This is a worthwhile innovation, but requires the player to verbalise his/her thought patterns while playing the game. Imagine a player 'sneaking out the back' as the play is unfolding up the field and hearing their commentary instead of Bruce and Taylor taking pot-shots at each other? It'd be brilliant, but the AFL is just not interested in innovation. Never has been. Pathetic really. Secondly, why arn't players and umpires fitted with cameras? The AFL played around with this some years ago and dropped it. It all became just too hard I suspect. It would have involved thinking to really make it work. Imagine a struggle in the goal square shot in 4K from the goal umpire's viewpoint with accompanying audio? Thirdly, get rid of commentary as we currently understand it. Wire all players, runners, doctors, trainers and umpires with audio and find the world's best sound engineers and sense-makers and put them in the control box. Their mandate is to bring us the best audio feeds that explains the game from the participant's perspective as it's unfolding. We'd know why Jonathon Patton is distressed rather than commentators speculating for 15 minutes and being 100 miles off the mark. Unfortunately, this type of innovation is unlikely to happen. When left to their own devices, the AFL (and particularly the players' thinking) and the broadcasters move at snails pace.

Demons offer Clarkson 5 year deal [2011]
There is a chance Clarkson will be politely asked to 'retire' by the Dawks at about the same time Goodloss is out of contract. If he was gettable in 2022 . . . do we want him?

NON MFC: Round 06
Who's getting the cash down at Glenferrie Road? They are almost like us in 2012. There must be very ordinary players on good coin.

NON MFC: Round 06
Commentators going on and on about the Dawk's inconsistency. Well, what do you expect when the side is packed with inconsistent b-graders that other clubs were happy to off-load? I can't understand why Dawkthorn have escaped media scrutiny. They've treaded water for five years. They don't have one a-grader (with the possible exception of Sicily) in the club that they've bought through from drafting for 10 years. They are in deep long-term trouble IMHO.

NON MFC: Round 06
Frawley is incredible one dimensional. Beaten in a one-on-one by a good ordinary battler just now. Frost his usual headless chock impression.

Frawley and Frost doing well.

Garry Lyon: "Melbourne Supporters are Gutted"
Agree with pretty much everything that's been said here. I'll say one thing though, Lyon and Derm didn't say anything that hasn't been said on this forum for months by well credential-led judges in a much more coherent manner. Well done 'Landers.

Brayshaw - Lazy, careless, comatose Hannan - Glen Iris interchange Langdon - Who, where, what? Harmes - Viney the second vandenBerg - Good at Ainslie Tomlinson - Giant's win trade McDonald - Captain of reserves Pickett - Too inexperienced ATM Lockhart - Battler and limited Lever - 11th game back Rivers - Worth persisting with Smith - Oh deary me Melksham - One good year Hunt - Little boy lost

What they're saying down at Punt Road
Post Game Oliver is useless when he's not throwing it. Oliver is a worse kick than Treloar. CLAYTON LOLIVER! Can always back in Oliver's skills. Thank god we thrashed that pissweak football club. Haven’t lost to them since Rance buried Watts skull into the turf. Cotch will retire at the end of the year. Jacks still sooking too much to the umps for my liking. Melbourne are terrible. A top team in form would beat us. Melbourne are an absolute rabble of a football club, what a pathetic joke. They need to be taken of life support. The Dees to their credit threw the kitchen sink at us. Balta is the heir to Alex Rance. We played a lot better today but if that had been Geelong, Brissie, Suns or even Port we probably get smacked.

GAMEDAY: Rd 05 vs Richmond
You're a real clueless supporter MF-C. It's obvious Mate. Tomlinson will dominate on a wing and slot 3 on the run from 55 out. Max is brilliant when he drifts forward and deadly from 35 metres out. There's another 2. You clearly haven't taken any notice of Hannan's form. 3 more goals there. Viney's long leg after he bursts out of the centre . . . kicking it 55 metres over the cluster. Pencil in anther 2 goals from him. Tommy's virtually been unstoppable over the last 18 months. So there's another 5 in the bag. So far I'm up to 15 goals without trying. Seriously Bro, what's your problem???

Hey Macca . . . totally agree on T-Mac. Not convinced at all. Also need major improvement from Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney et al . . . then a top four side. ?

What they're saying down at Punt Road
When I was a kid . . . back in the 1970's . . . The Deez supporters would gather in the centre of the MCG after we'd beaten the Tiges and sing the following song: Hooray for Richmond, hooray at last, Hooray for Richmond, for they're a horses a&#e. Don't be mistaken, don't be mislead, They're not the horse's a&#e, they're the horse's head!

What they're saying down at Punt Road
Melbourne is not very good this year. Dees by plenty. Our side will be jet lagged. Having Rance right now would be massive. He was a jugger naught when we were a middle of the ladder team. Melbourne's Grand final this week. I'd say Dees will bring in either Weideman or that spud from Essendon this week to try take advantage. It'd be nice if they played Preuss again. Demons to Bomb out of the finals race. They'll probably thrash our midfield. Our midfield basically has lost every battle so far this season and Melbourne's one is able to get the ball. Their issue is what they do post-clearance and heading into the forward 50, so we'll just rely on their tendency to misfire in the forward line or the midfield for the win. Reckon we match up well against the Demons. They're not overly quick like the Saints, who beat us for pace last week. Fritsch is under rated and probably their most dangerous forward. Anyone else forget the dees existed? last i heard about them was way back in the nab cup when everyone was hyping that fat bloke for playing his first good game in years. Reckon this could get ugly. Dees by 47. Tomlinson and Langdon know how to find space and the footy. Let's hope Langdon gets 30 possessions, his Disposal is Sh!te. Melbourne games in the past have been pivotal at times. The McMahon Dustin Martin Cup, The Tommy Hafey debacle. Anzac Eve 2017 and I reckon from memory we lost a last round against them to finish ninth. Sunday's got that same feel about it. I hate losing to those entitled [censored]. Always say Brayshaw is a bellwether player for Dees. When he plays well they are up and about, like in 2018, he was third in Brownlow. Melb. last year resorted to a lot of push and shove. This year since the restart they've had two close games for a win and a loss. They'll be thinking they are in form and we are off the boil.
