  1. Just in from Stanaway, coming out of his latest scan...
  2. Yes the hybrid who can ruck & genuinly impact as a forward. Jackson, Tom De Koning types. They don't grow on trees however. Most genuine rucks are bog ordinary in front of the sticks even if they can take the odd clunker up forward or mobile enough to be hit up on a lead.
  3. We are much more in need of a Treloar type through the middle and a KPF. As far as rucks go, if Grundy goes then sure we should be looking for an alternative. Verral has some potential but a massive work in progress even at VFL level at this point. Although not presently on the list, Bell could also act as a short term back up if Grundy left. While he won't be anywhere near a Max standard (who would be?) and probably has limited upside, he's a competitive beast that can neautralise a contest and take occasional decent intercept marks. He would be as effective as Grundy imho if he gets to peak fitness. Helped Casey win a Premiership and is a big reason why they dropped away late in the season after his injury. As long as there's a list spot (Grundy) and he comes cheap. Regardless, a half decent ruck is all that's needed. Wouldn't want to pay too much and only if Grundy moves on.
  4. That's either one mighty big smudge stick or you're in W.A. on a Steve reconnoitre to grab some of the good sheeeit
  5. Never had so much joy reading a thread...
  6. Yw DZ. A well worn cliche' but we'll just have to take things one week at a time.
  7. Thanks 55 Yes, i've covered this aspect a few times over the years. Botton line, when viewing the ratings keep in mind to try and compare like with like (position and / or type of role played) where possible. If you do that it will hopefully make a bit more sense. No g'tees of course! Even then, a ratings system based on only publicly available data will struggle to capture the subtle nuances of the various positions and roles to some degreee. But using the above method is a reasonable course of direction that will hopefully provide a rough guide as to form over one season vs a prior season amongst a particular category of player and / or over a selected block of games from the same season eg; the last 5 weeks vs the previous 5. Finals ratings vs H&A etc. Hiope that helps a little ✌🏼
  8. Team & Player Ratings (H&A) Season 2023 vs Season 2022 Well that's a wrap folks. Our top 22 ranked players posting a marginal 0.5% gain on last season's rating. For the 6th year running Clarry takes out the number one mantle! Ok so he probably won't win any of the weekly vote based industry comps including the Chas and the Bluey but they're based on cumulative outcomes rather than week to week standards when on the park. It should be noted that prior to his injury Clarry was tracking in line with his 2022 result. The 6% differential is purely the injury effect since his return in Rnd 22 vs the Blues. Let's take a look at some of his season stat averages... 14.5 Contesteds (ranked 1st), 16.2 uncontesteds (1st), 20.4 effectives (1st) @ 67.5%, 2 one percenters, 6.6 clearances (1st), 2.4 rebounds (10th), 5.1 inside 50s (3rd), 6.3 tackles (1st) with 1.1 of those inside 50 (4th), 7 score involvements (2nd behind Tracc on 8.3), 438 Meters gained (2nd to Tracc on 451), 4.8 intercepts (9th), 0.5 goals (18th) and 5.7 turnovers (1st) A great result from Tracc improving on an already impressive 2022 by 5%. Gus & Viney (to a lessor degree) holding their form nicely throughout the season vs 2022. Rivers the obvious stand out with a massive 52% gain on 2022. Tomo & Fritsch also up there. Salem, Harmes and May of some concern. Although May trumped the 19% season differential with a big match return to 2022 type rating against the Swans. Suspect the FD might have managed him conservatively throughout the season in order to ensure he wasn't cooked at any point. Let's hope he can take that form line into the forthcoming finals campaign. 9. There's at least 700 pooches linked to D'landers alone surely. Let's do a whorethorn...sign up your pups ppl!!
  10. Same. Stunned he wasn't benched afterwards. Kept yelling at the tv "We don't need a win... GET BAILEY OFF FFS!!" I wonder what Choco was thinking / saying!!??
  11. Round 24, 2023 SCG - Swans vs Demons A costly win. We just can't take a trick up forward this season and a sad result for our two boys. Fritta also yet to be cleared so fingers crossed there. Clarry coming back into some form just in time? Not far off his season average against the Swans just pipping Viney for the No.1 rating. May having a much improved result with a rating only 2% - 3% off his top end season 2021 (3.926) & 2022 (3.971) ratings! Hopefully a very positive sign for the champ coming into finals. ANB. Viney, Fritta, McVee & Turner posting some solid results vs their season averages, albeit Disco has no meaningful base having played only one (subbed) match vs the Suns in Rnd 8 to use as a season comparison. Fabulous result for Laurie matching his average from his few previous entrees in just one quarter of football. JVR having 5 hit outs to advantage vs Max's 3! Not a bad effort. 12. Terrible blow for Melk & Luke. Melk really was making a difference up forward for us with Fritta out. What a great effort to make it back into the team and hit peak performance when we needed the lift. He is the ultimate pro and has given us some fabulous memories and contributions. Please....no more player podcasts before or during finals mods! 🙏🏼
  13. I'm no expert but didn't give the impression of an ACL. More like an awkward inward hyper extension with some significant bruising. Fingers crossed
  14. That suggestion's an insult to dog doggles LZ. Brutus says hello!
  15. I'm not in the camp of his card being stamped just yet DR. However, you may have hit on something here. We now know there's nothing to be gained by winning this. So just maybe the FD value Tomo more than some are thinking? That is, Tomo is a key cog in releasing Lever to play as the 3rd tall D and effect his preferred intercept role yes. So we certainly don't want to risk an injury to Tomo at this point is one other explanation as to why we're playing Disco ahead of him in what is effectively a dead rubber (for us).
  16. It also doesn't make commercial sense. Surely more ppl will be able to get to a Friday night final vs a Thurs night and also watching as many won't have work the next day, kids can stay up .
  17. Don't think the FD have necessarily chosen one over the other Kent. Probably more likely match ups and they want to give Disco as much exposure as they can at AFL level to get used to the step up plus try and start gelling with May, Lever etc in order to have him as ready as possible if needed for finals. Again if match ups warrant or one of Lever or Tomo go down (spit spit ...dashes salt shaker over shoulder) He was also in vn form against the Lions so he put his hat in the ring.
  18. Could just be a recent from thing with the drop punt side JCB? A player's form probably fluctuates with certain kicks as it does with marking etc both in season and from season to season. Other factors such as a swirly or gusty wind blowing at the time. Dewy, extra spongy or a loose / choppy patch of grass that he's launching from vs the bulk of the playing field? So many variables out there that we aren't privy to.
  19. Fabulous interview with one of the great Demon stalwarts over the last 7 years. Thank you Andy and everyone involved. It's no coincidence that the likes of Jake coming to the club (among many others of course) have helped propel us to a new level of professionalism and output both on & off the field. His form at Casey prior to re-selection, particularly his goal kicking prowess over many weeks, couldn't be ignored which is a credit to Melky. As Andy said he could have easily dropped his bundle a little and just played out his career there. Straight shooter who doesn't mince his words. Is eager to share his knowledge of forward craft with the younger guys. An asset to the club that will never find its way on any stat sheet. He had a good chat with Roohey against the Hawks as they were coming off the ground at one point. No stone unturned and no doubt some invaluable learnings being imparted. His goal kicking technique, particularly his snapping, is a joy to watch. Text book stuff that others could use as a 101 'how to' guide if needed. Fingers crossed he can continue to pepper the scoreboard and has a solid finals campaign.
  20. Bit of an experience spin from the FD here to give Disco some more exposure and see where he's at given there's nothing to lose? Who knows Disco might take the opportunity. Has shown some decent form in his own right and might stick his hand up.
