Certainly don't. Taylor will be allover this one i assume. IF we are getting Young i really don't see the need other than depth.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL

If we are picking him up as a rookie (under SSP) he can't come on board and commence training with us till 1st Dec so thank goodness he wasn't there this morning! Tuesday 3rd Dec training sesh is the first option. I might even take the day off and head down but we should know either way before then. A few whispers (36 being one) that he has already committed. -

Starting to wonder if all this talk of spasms causing chronic issues (and some referred nerve pain) of the calf is more a trigger point issue than specifically nerve derived. Albeit the sensory and motor nerves can nonetheless be impacted, which might explain the related nerve issues? Below are some VERY basic explanations highlighting the 'contraction/shortenting' effect on muscle fibers by trigger points, which might (partially) explain some of the calf tears/nerve pain etc. Of course not being an expert it could also be way wide of the mark...just putting it out there.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DxFGImh3X8 Some coverage of the (potential) nerve related effects here.. A more extended look at the potential common trigger points that might effect the lower leg region... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SckxNECKUes&t=80s -

Not the first time either 36. If my memory serves me correctly, i believe we left a contract (or whatever the papers were called back then that saw you secured to play with a particular club) with Doug Wade's mum & dad at one point in the early 60s and asked him (or it might have been the mum and dad directly...ie i can't recall if we even met up with Doug personally) to mul over whether he would come to us. Meanwhile Geelong got wind of this and the late Bobby Davis paid his mum & dad a visit shortly after (from memory with a nice full paper bag or some sort of special gift in hand/promised...maybe a car/a year's worth of college fees or the like) and got him (with his mum & dad's approval) to commit and sign on the spot. The rest is history of course including a premiership in 63 with the Cats as well as their leading goalkicker every year from 1961 to 72 (averaging 4 goals a match), bar an injury plagued 65 season Kicking a massive 127 goals in 1969 and named at full forward in their team of the century Bennell would be a minor payback but something is better than nothing (if he gets on the park that is). Fingers crossed. -

My understanding is you nominate a player (provided he has agreed of course) to join your club as a rookie list replacement (assuming you have rookie list space/s left or if you don't have one you make one available) under the SSP. Bennell is eligible as he was delisted by the Dockers. But this can't be done until all drafts are over and the SSP commences ie; from the 1st Dec, which might (partially or fully) explain why there is talk he wont commence training with us till Tuesday 3rd Dec. Once he is on our list he can't be picked up by another club. He is on our list and both parties are then committed to whatever contract he signed. He will be paid like anybody else based on the terms of his contract. The terms/nature of that contract would of course need to be tailored to suit the club's & player's unusual circumstances and, as others have already speculated, likely to be perfomance biased in some way. He could come to some weird non-committal/non-contractual (unpaid) arrangement to train with more than one club and nominate for the draft but i can't see the incentive or logic for any club/s to go down that route and it also leaves Bennell (and partner!?) in a less than ideal situation, possibly ending up at a place/club he (she) just doesn't wish to be at. Bottom line, if you hear any official word he is training with us on 3rd Dec then he is officially a Demon in 2020 (and possibly beyond). -

Yep have to agree. Not a great idea and strange thing to say after highlighting the attractions/strengths of Young & Flanders at 3. I haven't listened to the interview so i'm taking your word that he wasn't asked about some rediculous scenario by Derwayne or someone and gave some answer that was tongue in cheek or being flippant. -

Would love to know how the nerves are or were being impacted etc. Not that i am expecting to know as i'm certainly no expert but in my travels i've never heard of this lower leg nerve / muscle impact issue before. Debilitating sciatica & lower back pain etc is common but this seems like one out of the box. -

Crows would seem a likely fit. Would they take him so high with the likes of Serong and Ash (for example) seemingly rated a tad higher though? -

Yes Don that's what i was thinking when looking at his highlights. He's about the same height also if the Norwood club site is correct. The big difference for me is Dylan is more a ground ball player whereas Robbie had the aerial side as an added bonus...among other assets! -

Correct DC. I've allowed 7 weeks up there as a super rough guesstimate for a soft load up from the 3rd. And that's just to ease him to a level needed to be ready to start an adjusted pre-season. -

That still puts him (roughly) in that ten week recovery window DC. Maybe a few weeks short if he did happen to start with us on the 3rd Dec. -

My very amature take > If it takes 48 days to get over a grade 3 calf tear SF....add 2 to 3 weeks as it was surgery. That's about 10. When was his last opp? DC says July although he had two rounds. Was that his last round? 10 weeks from July...that's a full (standard citizen's) recovery by about mid Sept. Are we safe to assume he might be fine to begin light loading nowish (ie: 6 weeks further on). But lets say we are all wrong/dates are out on the last opp (recovery longer etc) and he wont be ready to do anything till 3rd Dec. Add two to three weeks for initial loads. Say another 4 to get him to a level ready for a full pre-season (and possibly a staggered stepped up one on a non-normal program over about 10 weeks to be super conservative). Normal pre-season say approx 6 weeks. Bennell's is say 10. That's 17 weeks.(approx) from the 3rd. That's about 31 March. Then he would need to ease in at VFL level progressively. Say 4 weeks. Add say three weeks for a minor setback.... That puts him available at about 24th May Rnd 10 vs the Doggies on a Sunday. -

My understanding is... He can start 'paid' training with us on the 3rd (or anytime for anyone for that matter from here on). But assuming he starts (paid training) with us, we can select him for pre-season matches and also have the exclusive chance/choice of picking him up in the SSP. (ie; try before you buy). His other option from today... Randomly train for free with one or more clubs (obviously with an invite to do so), and IF he did, he then needs to nominate for the draft to be picked up by whoever (assuming one or more clubs are willing to do so after monitoring his progress etc). -
There is something to be said with size/agility and stepping up to perform against the big boys that's for sure. From what i've seen his reading of play / ball drop however, is very good to elite (at the under 18 level). Whether that translates to similar at AFL level? Who knows. Much of the ability to transition is a bit of a coin flip and ao many factors come in to play here.

Rowell is clearly the pack leader for 2019 LT but i would have Anderson and Young not that far apart either. Anderson possibly by a nose as by all accounts he has the ability to kick a few handy goals pushing forward. There is a top 3 (☝?) and a bit of daylight from there imv. -

Footy (sporting) clubs can rise and fall on the back of one monumental mistake GLG. Sorry but there are times when a CEO needs to step up and be counted and that would be one of them. Pert is not a babe in the woods. He would know when he sees a mega blunder looming and if he didn't act then he isn't doing his job and may as well walk himself. 98.5% of the time certainly. But there comes a very rare time when it's a must... -
