Been a huge critic at times but can't fault that performance. Played his role to aplomb. Looks alot more comfortable as the 2nd stringer KD with May taking the opp's best and consistently in the team / in form also.

I don't know about the rest of the year PF but agree with the rest. Much room for improvement when the ball hits the deck though.

Bring on the shepherd & the overlap Pates. More bouncing as well. Many are losing that art a little too. Also the hook turn and fake/baulk. There are meat and potato players / forwards. There's some very good players / forwards. Watching Bennell & Kozzy (add a few seasons experience) you know you're watching the real deal.

Weighted Average Scores at the end of Rnd 6, 2020 Pretty much tracking at the 2019 team score so far once the 20% time differential is added back. Did we turn a corner last night against the Suns? Still a number of big names tracking well under their 2019 average also with the 20% allowance added including Clarry (approx 9%), Harmes (17%), Salem (17%) and Gus (9%). Tracc, Oscar, ANB & Hannan a fair way up on 2019 output so far. One of my biggest bug bears in the modern game KoD. I loved the Kozzy one where he went for the chasing player with purpose. The actual shepherd wasn't that effective in the end but just putting a body between the chaser and ball carrier gave our bloke an extra yard or so to work and steady with that next disposal. Little things that add up to make a slight impact and might well be the difference on the day.

All good points LN. That last part also but with the run we've had up forward with KFs since Neita i'll believe we've found one when i'm seeing it. Two would be party time!

We'll probably never see the move LN. I reckon a decent player can cover his role down back the question is can we find someone. Maybe not and as you say he needs to stay. If i was a coach and depending on how the season / T-Mac / Brown works out i wouldn't want to die wondering.

He was thrown into the middle for a brief stint last night Balls. Did a couple of good things but certainly not enough to keep him off the "omitted" radar. Continues to turn the ball over consistently (2nd of all forward role players only behind Kozzy ...a rookie in his first few games) and very little to nil pressure from what i've seen inside 50 with only 1 tackle inside 50, yes you are reading that right 1 miserly tackle against the Blues, in 5 matches of football. Would be looking at Brown at this point. The pressure needs to be applied on all players and Melk has not done enough or shown enough effort so far (imv) to suggest he is worthy of retaining his spot without serious scrutiny this week.

Yep. And even May up forward for a short stint. I would seriously consider attempting to blood Tomlinson as a backman that runs off his man to eventually (fairly big W.I.P. and would take some time & effort) replace May. May's a solid 'on the shoulder' one on one backman dont get me wrong. But this bloke has mauling / brute forward written all over him. Will make others stand tall around and his opponents will be hearing footsteps. Not so great with ball in hand down back and pretty predictable/ average kick from the square. He is somewhat wasted in a key back role. May never happen (pun intended) but i'd love to see it trialled for a 3 to 4 week stint (at least) before sending him back if its a flop. Possibly an option later this season if season / Brown doesn't work out.

G'day George. Yes i didn't really want to look back as in my eyes our season only got going last night but i hear you. Let's take a peek at the averages up to and including last night's match against the Suns .... Meters Gained Average Differential (We are looking for an average of + 200 or more) ? -60.4 Ranked 11th so not so good so far. From here who knows but a good start last night with +537. That's a big differential and a very good sign but obviously not expecting those sort of results against the better rated clubs. The top five with current ladder positions in parenthesis as follows... 1st Power (1) 2nd Cats (2) 3rd Pies (5) 4th Tigers (12) 5th Lions (3) Marks inside 50 Average Differential (ideally we need to see a top 6 ranking) ? We are presently ranked 9th with a 0.6 average. 12 last night is a big jump. Keep something similar to that up and we will climb fairly swiftly from here. The top 5 in this stat... 1. Power 2. Lions 3. Pies 4. Tigers 5. Dockers Contested Possession Average Differential. This stat not quite as highly corelated with success (finals and likely Grand Final appearances) as the former two but nonetheless hitting the magic triple has us on the right path to finals vs not hitting them (looking for +10 or more) ? +11 Ranked 3rd behind the Pies (No.1 with +13.5) and smidgen behind those puddy Cats (No.2 with +11.7). Tracking well here. The top 5... 1. Pies 2. Cats 3. Demons 4. Lions 5. Power So to this point we are only hitting 1 out of 3. Some major work ahead but hopefully last night is a possible turning point, all going well.

Surely a combo of Hannan (better playing mostly through HF though / occasionally on a wing), Fritta and/or Bennell Earl? One or more of those three can also rotate through Langdon's wing when resting to assist. Even Harmes at a pinch?

A good summary DS. If T-Mac is out next week (who knows at this point but if he is) i'd be bringing Brown in as his replacement. I'd go for Jones ahead of Melksham if his body is up to it as well. If Jones is still NQR maybe Bedford ahead of Melk and give him a trial run for a week or two and see where he's at.

My understanding in the first while T-Mac was on DS was T-Mac was playing a high HF role (in a similar vein to the way Hogan used to). Yes Weid definitely played quite deep early on if i saw it correctly.

Protect that corridor at all costs and man up around the contested ball ups. Don't allow them the outside position or a "Free" extra at any stage around the contested ball. They love to overlap run off the fat side wherever possible (in waves once they win possession) through the corridor. Force them wide and make them use the skinny side, mostly down the line, using the above coverage IF at all possible.

Very nice LN. Isn't it great to see a classy ball gatherer and smart ball user on the outside wings and up around the arc. Fingers crossed he can stay on the park and go from strength to strength. The two connections between him and Kozzy tonight (that i can remember anyway) were a breath of fresh air. What a difference this makes up forward. The good news is .....78% game time tonight vs 50% in his first match. That's significant. And ranked in the top 10 best players (statistically) on both occasions (10th ranked player on both occassions!).

Pretty sure i haven't seen that happen too many times while putting these together. The suns had 11 players with under 50 games vs our 5 which might go some way towards explaining the result outlier here. Pretty sure there was a stat that says once you hit 9/10 players (or more) in the team with less than 50 games your chances of winning drop significantly. We are still 4% off our 2019 average team score which "might" be an indicator that we are still a fair way off where we need to be in order to compete with the better rated clubs. Time will tell. Not a convincing win over the Suns by any means. Nonetheless, a solid steady win which i'll take any day over the rubbish we've dished up in the last season and a bit. If we believe the "Stats Insider" article from 25 June 2019 these three stats are the "real performance indicators"of the AFL stats world... ? Meters Gained Differential - Believe it or not this stat has the strongest correlation with success since it's induction. Extract from that article ... "From 2015 to 2018 there were 21 cases of a team achieving a 200+ meters gained differential over the course of the season. 20 of those 21 teams made AFL finals". ? Marks inside 50 differential - According to the article "Just three of the last 18 GF teams have been ranked outside of the league's top six for marks inside 50 differential". ? Contested Possession Differential - Again from this article... "Since 2010, we have 11 examples of teams who achieved a 10+ contested possession differential average over the course of a season. Nine of those teams found themselves playing on Prelim Final weekend". So i'll be tracking how we went in each of these three differentials each week vs our opponents from here along with the usual individual and team weighted average scores from both clubs. Let's take a look at this week's differentials shall we... Meters Gained Diff: Has the Demons winning this one by +537 meters. Demons 4,849 Suns 4,312 Marks i50 Diff: Demons winning by +8. Demons 12 Suns 4 (Weid did his job pretty well and we connected a little better on occasions). Contested Possession Diff: Again Demons by +24. Demons 127 Suns 103 That's three ticks. We'll see where this goes over the rest of the season fellow minions.
