  1. I wouldn't say nobody wants to stand up. I think Max, Tracc, Clarry (if he would clean up his disposal act and burst from congestion a little) May, Hannan and a few others give a yelp but the fight pretty much drops off a cliff from there. Viney and Gus as well but unfortunately both are deestroyers of the air conveyance. T-Mac tries his guts out but looks overweight and limited mobility now compared to 2018. We are also missing Marty Hore (in form) down back in place of a Lockhart or Smith for some extra run, intercept marking and decent finish too imo.
  2. A stop loss might be needed at some point though Dr. If we can't get a decent string of wins on the board by about Rnd 12 we might potentially be looking at another 10k members (or more!) down next season. The financial loss of that scenario might outweigh or go close to matching the pay out cost. And we all know it's easier to keep members than to recruit them. A new coach (with cred) ....and hope springs eternal.
  3. No access to the McGoos would be effecting many clubs i would think OD. The topsy turvy season continues unebated and for many players it's either sink or swim. Our horrid form certainly isn't helping our cause one iota. Lead by a coach who gives the impression of a rabbit frozen in the headlights at times and very stubborn when it comes to adjusting / adapting and trialling new things. He better make some significant moves / changes soon or he might become another road kill on the bloodied road that is the MFC .
  4. As long as those two are trialled at some point WB. Preferrably starting this weekend. The current set up, May playing back and neither of Brown or Weid up forward, isn't working. Happy to see the two role playing forwards given a go but confidence in those two isn't high. The trouble with all this talk is, it's just talk. I'm sure Brown and / or Weid will find their way into the 22 at some point. But should they fail does Goody roll the dice and send May forward as a last resort? Can't see him being that daring but hopefully i'll be proven wrong if the former two fail.
  5. In not adverse to trialling Brown and Weid there. T-Mac plays deep forward for mine. But should those two options fail us i reckon May at CHF is a must. By Tommo i mean Tomlinson to CHB to free May up WB. Not T-Mac. T-Mac either performs at FF or he's a bust imv.
  6. Ok only 4 rounds in and we finally have a few averages to work off. Normally wouldn't post averages till about Rnd 6 when some substantial data is in but hey, everything about this season is topsy turvy and it's effectively shortened by 20% so may as well have an early look. When you are looking at differentials in averages vs 2019 make sure to add 20% to the 2020 difference for a more realistic number. In a team sense this adjustment means our top 22 (when playing) are actually 3.6% ahead of the 2019 average. Marginal but any positive is worth noting. Is this the start of some sort of recovery? Most likely too early to call is my best guess. Another 3 matches or so should give us a better idea as to how we are tracking vs 2019. # Hit outs to advantage not included *Not an average only one match played Player 2020 Weighted Score 2020 Rank 2019 Weighted Score % Change vs 2019 2019 Rank Change in Rank vs 2019 Max Gawn # 3.644 1 3.256 11.92 4 3 Christian Petracca 3.338 2 2.616 27.60 10 8 Clayton Oliver 3.306 3 4.643 -28.80 1 -2 Jack Viney 2.838 4 3.068 -7.50 5 1 James Harmes 2.800 5 3.850 -27.27 2 -3 Angus Brayshaw 2.456 6 2.894 -15.13 6 0 Ed Langdon 2.388 7 - - - - Alex N-Bullen 2.338 8 1.984 17.82 21 13 Harley Bennell * 2.250 9 - - - - Jay Lockhart 2.225 10 1.660 34.04 31 21 Michael Hibberd 2.208 11 2.124 3.95 20 9 Christian Salem 2.200 12 3.448 -36.19 3 -9 Steven May 2.169 13 2.446 -11.32 14 1 Mitchell Hannan 2.088 14 1.325 57.58 36 22 Aaron Vandenburg 2.050 15 - - - - Oscar McDonald * 2.000 16 1.877 6.55 26 10 Neville Jetta 1.788 17 2.264 -21.05 18 1 Jake Lever 1.694 18 2.313 -26.76 17 -1 Tom McDonald # 1.638 19 2.150 -23.81 19 0 Adam Tomlinson # 1.613 20 - - - - Nathan Jones * 1.475 21 2.711 -45.59 8 -13 Joel Smith 1.158 22 - - - - Toby Bedford * 1.150 23 - - - - Bayley Fritsch 1.150 24 2.641 -56.46 9 -15 Trent Rivers 1.033 25 - - - - Kysaiah Pickett 0.942 26 - - - - Jayden Hunt 0.858 27 1.958 -56.18 22 -5 Jake Melksham 0.756 28 1.931 -60.85 23 -5 Mitchell Brown * 0.625 29 - - - - Luke Jackson * 0.250 30 - - - - Charlie Spargo * -0.250 31 1.375 -118.18 23 -8 Average Team Score -Top 22 49.663 59.623 -16.70
  7. Tomo can handle CHB Wise. No-Mac takes the FB role. Lever needs to finally earn his coin and provide a regular chop out / intercept role, which i understand is what he was brought in for in the first place. Lend a hand as required. We need to put a score on the board and lock the ball inside 50 for decent game time. Even if we give up a goal or two extra to kick 4 or 5 extra the other way. Payoff is there by correcting the current putrid forward issues. Roll the dice or die wondering? I know which way i'd be going and at present, we are going nowhere.
  8. I have been calling for May to CHF for some time. Defence is not our main problem. The inability to convert and lock the ball inside 50 for more than 10 or 20 seconds is. I was calling for this at half time yesterday also to take advantage of the fact that most of our playing group, much of the time, plays a straight ahead game. We don't look lateral often enough when coming off HB or through the square and more often than not just kick it blindly to CHF. Usually bombing and shallow kicks where the opp sits a player roughly 40 meters out directly in front. They often intercept then counter quickly on that turnover. We are mostly running forward, out of position, and this often results in a shot at goal or a goal for our opponents. Massive team deflator. If you aren't going to coach this 'straight ahead full steam" approach out of the players ie; look up the field assess quickly, if main outlets are blocked hold up and go lateral (even backwards as a last resort) if needed but try and maintain possession. The solution if you arent changing that method, and it would appear we aren't or Goody can't, is to put a decent marking tall forward at CHF who can compete, clunk a few marks and/or bring the ball to ground. I don't trust either Brown or Weid in this role although happy to see an experiment wIth either for a few weeks but...my preference is May as per post on another thread below. Goody needs to experiment and pull the trigger. Shouldve happened at half time yesterday. This could be a stop gap until Petty returnd or it might be permanent depending on results... ..."Pretty fair summary Poita. I can't see a place for Tomo (on a wing) if Bennell ever gets back. Surely he and or / Fritchskreig goes to Tomo's wing. Tomo trialled at CHB or maybe even CHF? Personally i would trial him at CHB. Push May to CHF and bring O-Mac in for Smith. Bennell to HF or wing. Alternating with Fritsch maybe."

  10. And that just about sums up our lot SW. Went from a top line coach who didn't stay the course needed, to another untried rookie. 5 years minimum was a must for Roos given the depths we plumbed from 2012 till his appointment. 3 seasons was a band aid fix. It held till the 2018 prelim then the gangreen returned.

Note that Gawn's hit outs to advantage are not included above and my best guess is if they were he would have finished in the top 3, probably 2nd. Clarry was marked down badly in the above score from 5 turnovers but he wasn't the worst here. Viney with a massive 8 and Fritschkreig with 6 headed the table. Clarry equal 3rd along with Tomo, Smith, Gawn and Hibb. Those turnover stats don't show where they occurred or whether they resulted directly in a score though. I suspect if they drilled down to this level Clarry would be marked down a tad further. A better start matching the Tigers in the first, but unfortunately as we've seen all too often, once the opp turns up the wick a little or a fair amount our skills and composure tend to collapse almost on cue with a few exceptions. Surprise surprise we end up well behind at half time, again! And once more, chasing tail for the remainder of the match. Even with virtually no bench in the last it was pretty clear to me (and no doubt most) that only one team was likely to win this one. Maxy, Tracc & Hibb played pretty solid throughout. Clarry did his usual extraction work but much of it brought undone with some fairly ordinary disposal and panic handball / kicks into neutral territory or straight to the opp on a few too many occasions. Not to mention that last kick of 5 meters or so that resulted directly in a goal. Then there's the ex captain. What can one say. Pretty solid at getting the pill, similar to Clarry, but those turnovers ughh! Who would've thought Jack would put in a bottom 6 result statistically in any match other than when returning from a decent lay off / injury. Gus had a go but not that far behind in terms of ability to impact / halve a contest. We are really lacking some zip, agility and break away soft shoe shuffle from any of our mids at the moment by hand and/or foot, with the exception of Harmes in that 2nd half who i thought gave us a tad more run and forward momentum / impact through the square. Then there's our immaculate forward line. Apart from a handy haul by Hannan, there's not much to write home about in terms of results on the scoreboard or ability to retain the ball inside 50 for more than a few seconds once the ball hits the turf. Front and square? Is that even in the coach's playbook? If it is no one appears to be listening or attempting to position themselves there other than the opposition. The other bottom 5 statistically were Hunt, Smith, Kozzie, Melk and Tomo. Kozzie i'll happily forgive at this early stage. He'll get there given enough time, games and a decent structure / genuine KF inclusion up forward (hopefully!). As for the other four. A little like our season so far, sometimes the less said the better!
  12. Very early days. Plenty of upside. A new coach, a few more pre seasons & experience. Could be a star a la Cyril (similar style not saying he'll reach such heady heights) but not under this regime. Speaking of small and/or medium small forwards, how is it that we STILL haven't learned to get them front and square (forward hot zones) on a regular basis yet our opponents often do and run the ball out of our 50 with relative ease as a result.
  13. He wont be coming to coach this rabble SW. But we certainly need to get our hands on a coach who can coach (Lyon?), along with a genuine KF (Cameron).
  14. Was very good last week also. If only all our blokes played with his manic attack and endeavour.
  15. Clarry.... easily one of the worst games ive seen from him sadly. B&F went to his head a little over the pre - season?
  16. This is saying something but Frost was twice the defender that Smith is.
  17. Viney is done as a Mid. Sorry but he rarely, if ever, connects with a forward coming inside 50. Too many dumb bomb turnovers.
  18. That's called "Gifting the opposition their most preferred match up" WW. It is also yet another signal (if we needed any more) that Goody hasn't got a clue.
  19. How on earth does anyone, let alone a supposed AFL coach, believe or feel that somehow Smith is worth a stint in the backline. Astounding.
  20. This is THE most obvious move of the day... Thommo covers Lynch and Fritta to Thommo's wing. Goody ....WE NEED A [censored] BIG BODIED MARKING TARGET MATE....WAKE THE [censored] UP!!!!!
  21. Goody has half a match left to try and save his sinking ship. Try something different Goody for once in your coaching career!
