Yes that would be about May's 12th top five finish in these tables. Quite incredible as the stats tend to usually favour the mids as we know. That was our third best team score for the season. A 13% improvement on our 2019 season average and matching our 2018 season average. Maxy must have been well ahead of everyone in the supercoach ratings etc at half time. He was killing it for sure. Honestly, had the mids connected with the forwards and a few more of the forwards performed to a decent level in that third quarter they wouldn't have got anywhere near us. We owned them in the third but didn't capitalise on the amount of good work being done outside 50. That last kick inside 50 is still a long way off AFL worthy also. We will tread water again next season if we don't fix the disconnect and the lack of KF/small forward/forward pressure issues. Kozzy will be fine. I would even consider giving Hunt a 1 year contract on the back of that performance. Fritta is ok if he can fix his accuracy on set shots. Not sure about the rest of our forward line though. Needs an overhaul IMHO.

AF if we are ever to bridge the gap with the likes of the Tigers or say the top 4,, part of what we are going to have to bring is some high level pressure inside 50 at ground level. As you say there's a little from the likes of Tracc, some from Kozzy in spurts. But it almost ends there for us. Funnily enough i think Brown and Hunt bring more of this to the team than a number of the usual culprits like Melk, Fritta and Spargo. Hannan probably the only other that brings this when he's on and who knows when he's going to be on. So many Dr Jekylls up forward

He's had some good games AF no doubting that and what he does offer is kicking on either side inside 50 which makes him a bit slippery if he gets the ball outside 50. The problem is getting it for Melk, most of the time, means being given it on a platter. This is fine when eveything's going down hill. He looks the goods courtesy of other's hard work around him. It's when the wick's turned up either during a match when the opp get their act together, or, we are playing a damn good team, that he just doesn't get near it aside from the odd loose mark inside 50 and goal. For a player with his experience he goes missing for far too long, both during games (per above) or sometimes for matches on end. He isn't alone here. Look at Weid the last four weeks. One of the worst blocks of games you could ever wish to see from a supposed KF, barring a few odd decent cameo presentations on the lead or out the back. That 3rd quarter should have been the one that sent the Drugsters packing. That is... IF the mids had connected with the forwards, and, had there been any genuine KFs and small forwards to take advantage of all the entries. If not for a part timer in Hunt and Fritta getting on the end of a few and finally converting (after his horrid first quarter debacle with set shots), we probably would've lost. While i did see the occasional reasonable delivery from our mids on the odd occasion, forward of center we are STILL (mostly) a dogs breakfast!

Terribly over rated AF. Depth at best.
-
No because making them has never been a 'good' long-term result either QB
-
Not sure it was ever open DJ. Weren't we gnashing our teeth over other results at this same stage of the season 3 years ago?
-
Will probably be very stiff seeing as he hadn't played for an age. Had to be Lockhart (if available) for Nev surely Oh wait he is out. Sorry been on the turps

Wouldn't be surprised if this hits Joel Selwood at some point. These are just a few examples but there would be so many on his list, particularly the way he would go in head first early on to extract the "head high rule / protect the head" when it was rampant with the AFL and umps at one stage before they introduced the "taking the legs out" rule... https://www.afl.com.au/video/62637/selwood-out-cold-after-brutal-head-knock?videoId=62637&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1498360886001 https://www.afl.com.au/video/169330/selwood-crunched-in-heavy-dixon-hit?videoId=169330&modal=true&type=video&publishFrom=1495707219001 And at 2:10 in this one...... particularly brutal hit but unfortunately he did lead with his head...

If he gets anywhere near Gary's status i won't be complaining 56

I'm afraid you'll be hearing from Gil & Eddie's press secretaries shortly SNS...

Two more HTBs...incorrect disposal. One definitely had prior in the middle. What is the point of having tackles if you are not going to reward perfect tackles where the opponent incorrectly disposes the ball? This is NOT football being played to the rules as they were intended. The AFL really have ruined the game as we once knew it.
-
What was that Free to Grundy? Most of their set shots on goal have come from free kicks or chains from frees. The AFL want them in the finals at almost any cost no doubt.

I would've thought Hibb for Jetta to cover off Tippa. Him & Joe are always tearing us new one. May should do the job on Joe here but i'd love to see Hibb come back in and do a number on Tippa if fit. Minimise their scoring as much as possible to maximise our percentage gain.

Not at all R&B. You must have missed this part....coverage as in through the middle (back to his usual role) pushing forward. The role is a bit different. I think he gives us an extra rotation through the middle that ANB doesn't that we miss as well as some impact up forward. Admittedly ANB does play a different role but personally between Kozzy, Spargo & Viney we should be able to bring a reasonable amount of forward pressure. Bringing Harmes in allows Viney to rest forward a bit more bringing in another pressure medium / small forward into the mix.
-
Missing the point R&B. I'm saying if he plays the "same role" as ANB he will outperform most of the time. His level of output (possessions / delivery) is at another level when not being played off HB.

Looking great Dazzle. Byron had that innate magic to slow everything down around him at times also and find space / time where many couldn't. Kozzy did the same thing here but mostly just burning off with pace. Made the others look like they were in slow motion. If he starts bringing the extra tricks as well look out! Could be VERY special with a few more pre-seasons under the belt / core strength / poise ? finish. Starts learning to read / time the crumb more often. Early days though so best to keep a lid on it.
-
I can remember the big hits and some great run / evasive skills and finish Dazzle but your memory is better than mine here. Young Kozzy seems to have a bit of extra toe. Your name sake and the Wiz would be in this picture in their hey day.

When was the last time we've seen a Demon hit the contest like that, burn off four opponents on the way out and connect up the field with the old one two finish for a goal? The closest i've seen might be Harmes when he's on playing through the middle and breaking a tackle or two. Usually the finish doesn't quite work out so well though!
-
If he is played in the same coverage / pushing forward role he will trounce ANB DD.
-
Couldn't agree more. It's a shame as at one point he looked quite promising. Out of the 35 players that have graced the field so far this season he is presently sitting rock bottom of the stats averages, approx 50% off his 2019 season average. One of the rare players to improve on his 2018 result last year (12% up). Fallen off a cliff.
-
Because an out of form Harmes is still a 40% improvement (based on actual statistical evidence ... season averages) on an in form ANB
-
Possibly yes Ham. In that case you would need an out though. Frittata, Hunt?
