Naitanui a shoe-in to get the Rising Star nomination. 3 goals after not touching it for 3 quarters will be enough.
-
Anyone who feels like making that comparison after 3 games, is a short-sighted idiot. Why don't we compare them to Daniel Rich, who currently shits all over both of these guys in every aspect. FFS, did you see the space that Naitanui had to work with to get his last goal? Put that ball and that space with Jack Watts, and he'll kick you a goal too. Or put that ball in the goal square and he'll kick one through for you as well. No doubt, Naitanui is going to be one hell of a player, but he is older and stronger than Watts so any comparison is irrelevant.

An excellent night. We are now much closer to Scully and whoever else we feel like taking with pick 2. Watching Naitanui should be a reminder to everyone why winning more than 4 games and not finishing bottom, is a disaster of massive proportions... and that winning culture is a load of crap.
-
I will beat everyone and say "OMFG Watts is [censored], why didn't we take Naitanui, we made a mistake, oh no!!!!11" 19 points the difference now. Welcome Tom Scully to the MFC! :D

Leading Hawthorn with about 14 minutes left, and a tropical cyclone to boot. Come on West Coast!!!
-
His kicking is the one area of his game that lets him down. Lock him in a room over summer and make him do nothing but kick for weeks on end.

6- Grimes 5- Davey 4- Sylvia 3- Bruce 2- Frawley 1- Martin
-
That's his style. Reminds me of Garland in that sense. They both seem so calm. But he is filthy with himself and gets angry when he makes a mistake, don't worry about that.
-
You would hope so, but I doubt it. He averages more kicks and marks than just about any other Rising Star nominee thus far. That kid is something special! Edit: Before tonight's match: Av. Disposals Grimes: 19.3 Rich: 16.3 Zaharakis: 13.7 Hill: 14.5 Ziebell: 15.5 Av. Marks Grimes: 6.8 Rich: 2.9 Zaharakis: 4.7 Hill: 2.9 Ziebell: 4.2

Agreed. Not sure whether either deserve a game based on their form today, but we are so desperate for some good ball users, that these two will be a welcomed inclusion.
-
He will keep making mistakes and that's fine. When he gets the ball, he does things with it that most in the team can't. He'll be filthy with himself about that missed goal and dropped mark, and that's good. He needs to learn and he needs to develop ASAP, and the more he plays, the quicker that will happen. Same goes for Jurrah. By the way, he played on Merrett for a bit, and that guy looks like he could eat Watts for breakfast. At least 15kgs between them!
-
These last quarters are a joke. Seriously, we are kidding nobody. Brisbane shut up shop. Having said that, Watts' ball handling skills are superb!
-
Without a doubt the worst game I have ever seen him play. What the hell is going on? so many players have barely touched it tonight! Come on Jurrahcane, please kick it!
-
So a new coach will suddenly make us win the clearances, or the contested ball, or perhaps hit targets? I would like to see that happen. When you have [censored], you play like [censored].
-
I don't remember the last time that I felt this angry or frustrated watching us play, and that says something. Woeful, seriously pathetic. How the f%#* can so many players stand around and watch the Lions win contested ball after contested ball? I know rebuilding is a slow, painful process, but how much longer do we have to put up with this [censored]! And you can blame the coach all you like, but if players can't hit targets, and refuse to run hard and win the contested ball, no coach in the world can do anything positive with that. We have completely lost the plot now!
-
Exactly. I have no issue playing a rolling zone type set-up and having numbers pushing behind the ball to help out our poor defenders, and stop us from losing by 300 points, at this stage of our development. Our problem, players who either physically can't, or mentally refuse to push hard the other way when we win the ball. Nobody gives those playing behind the ball any option to kick to. Robbo can stay in the square all game, but when we win possession you watch how fast the Brisbane defenders push back to protect the zone. Why the hell can't we do the same thing? You see the ball, and you run in whichever the direction it is moving. I guess such complex instructions might be too difficult to follow The one decent passage of play today came when Morton streamed down forward, marked and goaled. That's how you are meant to play this style of game!

If I was playing for Melbourne then I'd be our best midfielder this year. Last time I checked, I can only kick a footy 10 meters... inaccurately. The midfield set-up seems really [censored] today as well. For one, PJ can't get an effective hitout to save himself, but we always seem to be lining up on the wrong side. The worst thing about that second quarter was the pure and utter laziness of our players to push up the ground. It was free-Brisbane-players galore! Again though, Grimes is simply a superb player (despite a couple of shitty kicks). Works so hard, courageous, very smart user of the ball. Love him.
-
Our midfield is a disgrace. I know Brisbane's midfield is brilliant, but we are hopeless. Absolutely hopeless. Scully cannot come quickly enough. Lazy, slow and completely unable to man-up and be accountable. Whoever was on Rich (Morton?) needs to go back to Casey next week. Glad Bruce is now tagging him, because he tore us a new one. A kid in his first year. FFS! Grimes and that great mark from Watts, the only two highlights thus far. Our famous third quarter still to come. Dear god please help us! P.S.- STOP GIVING IT TO DAVEY!!!

A key forward who refuses to kick goals, and misses ones from 10m out directly in front, should not be ever entertaining the thought of playing AFL.
-
Not that I should be happy that anyone is unwell, but I'm very pleased that Bate is out and Jack gets another chance. Hopefully Bate goes on to infect the rest of the group and we can lose to West Coast next week on grounds of not being able to field a team
-
So he's resting, he's sore, they took him up for the experience (why name him then drop him, when he could have just been the traveling emergency instead?), but he could play because of the flu <_< That is not at all silly or confusing.
-
On a slightly separate topic, Essendon have their third Friday night match in a row next week. Talk about an uneven competition!
-
Did this official explain what the hell was the brilliant plan/ reasoning behind naming then dropping him? Is he injured?

Source?

Half back flanker I thought? Either way, his disposal is pretty terrible.
