Correct. We love jumping at shadows at this club. Nobody was going to steal Goodwin or Harmes from under our noses.

Not true. They also go to clubs that can pay them lots.

Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
On the one hand, Viney is one of the few mids we have who is consistent in his output. On the other hand, he plays a selfish style of footy which is sometimes detrimental to our overall midfield work. On the third hand, he is an excellent extractor of the footy, very good tackler and has a strong body. But my fourth hand points out that really, his kicking is limited, as is his decision making. This is a very tough one. You wouldn't move him on unless: He was adamant he wants out OR We got a player for him that fills a gaping hole on the list.... a small defensive forward, a speedy wingman, a FF (as if), or a quality half back rebounding defender. I am not interested in more picks or more inside mids.

The worst thing that has happened to this club in the past decade is the departure of Jackson. He saved this club from being a complete joke. I wish he had stayed longer.

Everyone is spent. Everyone has had it tough. Most of us in Victoria don’t have the luxury of still getting paid six figures, living in the sunshine with our loved ones, and being able to hang out with our mates. They would be doing it a lot tougher if they weren’t footballers, but ordinary people living in Melbourne. These pathetic excuses are wearing thin for me. They’re in the same boat as every other club, and they’re doing it a lot easier than 6 million other Victorians!

Of course the players should be blamed for the loss as well. But I ask this, we gambled away everything on two defenders and gave away this year’s first round pick. You don’t make those list decisions if you don’t believe you are in a position to push for a flag. So who was wrong here and who takes the blame?

I suppose we have different expectations then. Winning against poor teams does nothing for me 2 years on from a prelim. If in 2018 after that mega prelim loss you were told in 2020 we would battle to make the 8 after finishing 17th the year prior, would you take it? Would Goodwin get an extension off the back of that? The answer is hell no. We should be better.

Don’t even get me started on that debacle.

Sorry but these excuses don’t stack up. Everyone has had a hard season. Granted some more than others, but we’ve had a dream injury run until this week, and we are in the same short break cycle as everyone else. Sydney had the same break as us. Freo one extra day. Big deal. I am sick of the excuses. Last year injuries. This year Covid. Covid has impacted everyone including 17 other clubs but I don’t see them using it as an excuse.

I understand the need to make changes to keep the team fresh. But we made very few against Saints then Swans. Looked absolutely shattered and then made 7 changes and brought in a whole host of NQRs because how else do you change a third of your side? The selections ahead of these short breaks and the management of players has been truly terrible. I won’t start on the game plan coz I feel like a broken record.

And here lies the real issue. We have no leadership. Not since Junior have we had a really good captain.
