  1. Max Gawn likes the spotlight and thats fine, However I am uncomfortable with him doing this before he's shown much on the footy field. He acts like a celebrity without having proved himself yet. I hope he can play as well as he performs in front of the camera. Otherwise I thought the Xmas special was ok... and a couple of laughs.
  2. No biggie Billy I was extrapolating from this ^^^
  3. Hey Billy I don't buy into the "if we're caught talking about tanking we're in trouble" line, for the simple fact that the tanking issues is about whether we tanked in a manner that broke some AFL Law or not. There are statistical ways to assess the extent and ways in which many clubs have "managed" their lists and performances to collect a Priority pick. Some have been explored on this site in the various threads on this topic. An exploration of Carltons season in 2007 would illuminate statistical evidence of "tanking" and the early surgery to Fev, etc... indicates an intent. However, they have not been forensically investigated for an additional "paper trail" that the AFL could hang their hats on... despite several on this site saying Carlton board members indicated this was their intent. Akin to speeding in a car, the AFL could look at the game, injury, positional deviation and game results data and decide a club has "tanked", and to have a ruling in this area they would need to define the parameters of this assessment and assess all clubs in relation to these criteria. Relying on clubs "outing themselves" by using loose language about thier tactics is akin to the cops hanging out at the pub and arresting punters who boast about their speeding...
  4. Gaelic is far more similar to Aussie Rules than basketball. Personally I'd require an athletic basketballer to have played soccer to a decent level. At least then they will have some foot skills.
  5. "Four pillars" of our recruiting strategy probably requires that they have played a game of Aussies rules (or something similar) before we draft them. Yet to be convinced on the value of the US Basketball rookies, would prefer to give talented kids who play the game a shot first.
  6. I see it as subjective as the investigation and "crime" the MFC is being accused of in not "tanking", but rather "talking openly about tanking'. This is evident in their refusal to look at other instances of "tanking" and for the crimes being presented to the club relating not to the club doing it (tanking) but, far worse, talking about doing it... It's a farce and subjective in that the crime is not in the "tank" but in the trail of evidence of the club's "open intent to tank".
  7. I don't understand why people compare our situation with the issues Adelaide have faced. In regards to salary cap and draft tampering there are clear well defined rules that clubs are aware of and break at their peril. In our case there are no clear and well defined rules and the case seems to be about censoring CC for talking too loudly and openly about what clubs in our position have been doing for a decade, positioning themselves for the future. It seems weird that people are talking about our being penalised for CC's big mouth.
  8. Clifton Hill, where the train lines converge and often run express to Jolimont... ;-)
  9. I agree on Tappy, reckon they did a lot of physical development over the past year to build his endurance which for the moment limited his thumping kick, so hopefully he'll be cannoning them again in 2013. Great to have you on board Keane.
  10. Interesting, and obviously to be taken with a grain or two of salt, however it indicates that top 8 teams need to be either in the top 8 across all three areas (Adelaide), or top 4 in the midfield and top 8 in another area (Sydney). Being top 4 in two of these categories (incl midfield) puts you in top 4. HAwks are an interesting exception with their 9th in midfield offset by 1 and 2 for forward and back... Highlights the critical need we have to fast track the development of our midfield as this in turn drives up the performance stats for the forward and backs.
  11. I too lost my scarf this year in a newly established end of season ritual...
  12. A full season from the new twin towers up forward in Clark and Dawes.
  13. From Matt's Diary I'd suggest he was up for the NT Premiers Xmas party last night, which was attended by MFC coaches and (presumably) CS and our corp dev people. All good.
  14. Read somewhere that he's planning to come to Melbourne and play in the VFL next year, to prove his commitment... Perhaps Casey?
  15. If there was a specific rule we'd broken, I'd be worried. If there was a precedent of another club who'd been punished for similar behaviour, I'd be worried. If there wasn't numerous other clubs who have done exactly the same thing, I'd be worried. If the club hadn't rattled it's legal sabres, I'd be worried. The question is how elegantly can the AFL shut it down, without a legal fight and it spreading to a whole of league investigation... and that's the AFL's problem not the MFC's.
  16. Where's Stuie when you need him?
  17. Stuie's got us pegged... http://youtu.be/VImnpErdDzA
  18. Another one for you, this one mocks people with speak impediments ;-)) http://youtu.be/2K8_jgiNqUc
  19. Get real stuie http://youtu.be/fUspLVStPbk
  20. Hold on, "look at the teams that play there"! there is another (better) reason why their following week is often a loss. Teams on skid row have generally played in Darwin...
  21. Just because you don't share another's sense of humour don't make that person a troll. The best jokes have an element of truth, and a pinch of offense... I almost posted the same line/joke earlier tonight but pulled back knowing those who believe the rest of us should pandering to them, would get their noses out of joint... and I wasn't wrong.
  22. Same difference between a humourless bully and catching someone out as a humourless bully.
  23. Thanks HG. I'm coming up for the 2013 game, shame we have to wait for Round 17. Should be a better game/experience than watching us play North at Eturd the following week.
  24. I like the idea of 2 season games there, ideally against teams who don't play in the heat much so we'd have a nice edge. Would also give us two night games to watch (ideally not only on Foxtel). However, I do worry about recovery and how well we'd go the next round(s). Hells Gate, thanks for the training updates, in your opinion, over the footy season is there a more ideal time to play in Darwin heat and humidity wise? Could be a good move, boost memberships by selling Darwiners 3 game memberships and a discount flight down to Melb to catch one at the G...
  25. We'd have to be thankful that any current "Gawn's Yawn" is a result of training not drinking. Times are a changing...
