  1. Hi Tim, Meggs ventured to Ikon Park on a perfect Saturday afternoon for the important VFLW clash. It was an entertaining match especially while simultaneously listening to a vocal group of injured Casey players trading banter with their playing teammates. The language of the Irish players was as colourful as their football. Sheerin (5) playing her last game before heading home and O’Neill (19) kicked 3 goals between them and were influential all day. Midfielders McDonald (18) and Mitchell (21) were stand outs too. In the end it was a great win by a close-knit group. Casey is currently 6th on the ladder with 5 and half wins. There are 3 games remaining (14-game season) and we play 2 teams below us on the ladder at Casey Fields (Collingwood and St Kilda). The other game is against the second-placed Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval. Hopefully 2 wins sees Casey make finals. No Melbourne AFLW players played in the VFLW match given preseason starts in full swing this week. Melbourne’s AFLW season starts with Round 1 on Saturday night, 31 August 2024 at the upgraded Mordor (GMHBA) Stadium. So, lots of work to do between now and then. One week at a time ... 😊
  2. Hey Tim Fixture distortion indeed. The VFLW Season 2024 fixture featured Sydney and GWS for the very first time. It gave these teams the opportunity to play some competitive footy heading into the AFLW season. The 5 game ‘experiment’ took place against AFLW-aligned clubs from Rounds 3-7. The Victorian-based VFLW opposition sides fielded just a handful of AFLW players and unsurprisingly 80-point thrashings resulted. One exception was Collingwood who won by 2 points as they played 15 AFLW players v 19 from Sydney. The two NSW coaches were disappointed that the opposition clubs did not field more AFLW-listed players. The tragedy is that percentage counted in these ‘incursion’ matches which hurts Casey who lost to the Swans by 85 points. On the bright side the Swans and GWS AFLW teams won’t be playing any more VFLW games and no finals appearances for them either.
  3. Was she a left footer? If tall and a forward it could have been Georgia Gall. Pissano is not tall. There was recent photo posted of the team’s pre season team camp at Wilsons Prom and it appeared that Grace Beasley has joined from US college basketball. She has some impressive moves.
  4. Kev, don’t you mean Pissano? Her highlights reel suggests all of the above. Jordi Ivey has been delisted.
  5. A generational talent is Reid, amazing.
  6. Need some help with a couple… Sitting down in order: Russell Robertson, David Neitz, Dr Andrew Daff, Andrew Leoncelli, Anthony McDonald, Travis Johnstone, Daniel Ward Standing up in order: Nathan Brown, tall guy?, Guy Rigoni (his daughter Gemma has just been recruited to our AFLW team), ??, Brad Green, Alistair Nicholson, the reverend Neil Daniher, Paul Hopgood, Ben Dutchy Holland, Bring Back Stephen Powell, ??, Rod Grinter.
  7. Hopefully not punching them, just pinching. Nice conspiracy theory DS, Libby and Daisy are close. Time will tell 😎.
  8. Good question. On the recent AFLW Tagged Podcast, Ruby Schleischer also raised this issue. Expecting movement. Gold Coast are chasing our defender Charlotte Wilson and along with speedy father-daughter selection Jemma Rigoni joining us, there's 2 changes already. Gemma Bastiani has written a piece here highlighting some of our weaknesses. List management will inevitably result in some existing players moving clubs this offseason but hopefully none of the untouchables. A big-bodied midfielder and a strong key defender would surely be on top of our shopping list.
  9. Great post @Dees_In_October 100% concur with this particular statement. Blaithin Mackin certainly one exception who has improved and Aimee looks a keeper. Agree on Goldie too. Our Irish contingent really stood up these last 3 ordinary weeks.
  10. Thanks @Dees_In_October Rhi comes straight in if she’s cherry ripe. We really miss the run of Casey and Lampy. Cats will be a serious challenge this week.
  11. Nah 😎let Brisbane defeat Adelaide at home this weekend while we knock off North on Saturday to go top of the ladder. Then in round 10, after beating Freo in round 9, we defeat Brisbane to become minor premiers, McLelland trophy winners and first dibs on a home grand final at Ikon….
  12. 6. Edo Z, was incredible with 5 marks, 5 goals and a poster. BOG? 5. Gay, Maddi was strong all day and led our defensive group 4. Goldie, incredible energy and matched the Crows’ strength at the contest 5. Hanksy, was in everything trying her best against the Crows’ behemoths 6. Hore, moved into the middle by Mick to counteract their mid strength which reduced our forward power Special mention to Lize Mac with 2 fantastic running goals.
  13. 4 goals in 6:47?
  14. Dying moments of last season’s Grand Final, Captain Kate intercepts Brisbane’s last foray and kicks to VC Tyla for a game saving mark. On field leadership. Great choices.
  15. Yes, those Ikon evening vibes have been an enjoyable experience for Dees fans. Winning helps! The Season 8 opener against the Pies on Friday September 1, with Bri Davey and Brit Bonnici returning, will be a cracker. Will they run a practice game double header like they did last season? Hope so.
  16. The tragic passing of Adelaide senior coach Phil Walsh.
  17. Yes, he was an ‘Thug’. Regularly terrorised Aaron Davey, a true Saint, and once KO’d The Whizz earning a 7 week suspension.
  18. Meggs replied to sue's topic in Melbourne Demons
That’s AFLW Demon premiership KPD Libby Birch, no 9 😎
  19. Thanks @Dees_In_October Aimee certainly has an impressive CV. Watching her Gaelic football highlights you can see she has a turn of speed, shows good strength, possesses the Mackin Family candy store and is a natural left footer ! Meggs is excited.
  20. Hope these mounting injuries aren’t somehow related to the newly laid turf post the Ed Sheerin concert…we play tmrw night
  21. The standard of footy tonight is terrific. Two Top 4 teams for sure. Max Holmes looks a beauty. What could’ve been. Anyway it’s such a contrast to last night’s fumblefest. Enjoying this entertainment.
  22. Meggs would argue that the AFLCA champion players award rating system has slightly more gravitas than Mr Robinson’s rambling prognostications. So let’s not pay too much attention to him, Clarry should be no. 1. Previous ‘Demon’ winners of AFLCA: 2022 Oliver / Miller, 2021 Oliver, 2018 Gawn and in 2006 Simon Goodwin 😉
  23. The umpires non call when it was clearly holding the ball allowed Brisbane to kick inside 50 and receive a 50:50 free and convert. That’s the quarter time difference, a free kick. Hopefully over the course of the game it evens out.
  24. The conditions here are not conducive for high scoring footy. We are doing pretty well considering the wind and now the rain…nonetheless a few good opportunities went begging that first half.
  25. North are building ominously towards finals and will likely finish 4th (they should defeat Richmond next week). Their Irish girls are slamming it, Wall is a beast, and Jazzy Garner is (close to) the best player in the league. If we miss top spot (more likely than not) then Brisbane will have to play North. The Lions 🦁 may well be surprised. But we are building nicely too. Our depth and skills and the evenness of our list has positioned us as genuine Season 7 contenders.
