  1. Wow Deemanina, that is an excellent comparison. Similar game to the great Laurie Fowler in the physical part of his game. If he can become as solid and reliable as Fowler that is a great get.
  2. I am only too glad to eat humble pie. I considered him a very good VFL player whose basic game would not transfer over to the AFL. Boy, was I wrong. His awareness and intensity were top notch and his decision making was a very pleasant surprise. I reckon he has Bowey's spot for the time being, considering how out of form Bowey has been. Interesting that so much of our play in the last quarter looked to lack composure, but AMZ seemed to remain composed. He did run out of gas though, which is to be expected on debut in the Brisbane humidity.

  4. Some interesting things from channel 7. In those last 5 minutes, Lever and some of our younger boys were out on their feet. Brisbane sprinting forward and some of the Dees boys just couldn't go with them. Goodwin saying the players went into their shells and played safe - sounds like that is not what he is coaching them to do. Goodwin likes what he sees from the combo of JVR, Petty and Turner so I reckon we will be seeing them as a unit. (Cue Demonland meltdown) General consensus is that we have rediscovered our DNA of pressure, intensity and contested possession
  5. I have been saying for most of the year that Jefferson is not ready, but I am willing to concede we must give him a go. Petty has become a negative net result player. If he takes a contested mark he is either on the wing, or he can't kick goals. His goal kicking is becoming demoralising. Jefferson might at least produce a neutral net result. And Fritsch is a shadow of his former self. Opposition players are playing him close so he cannot run and leap at the ball so he is being physically dominated.
  6. Petty 0.4 Fritsch 1.3 And that last miss is his bread-and-butter. Poor The lack of composure from Langdon with his last shot on goal. . Lack of composure (especially in F50 is becoming more than a trend, it is now an addiction. ANB - absolute brain fade. Rivers - taking time off the clock to then just bomb it 10m out from the goal. Easiest F50 entry to defend. This was a VERY young team. Some of the young fellas were strong tonight. We were beaten by 5 points, and matched or beat them over the ground. Last quarters a concern.
  7. Yeah, his decision making was carp tonight, often followed by average disposal. But it was the first time this year I have seen him hit packs at pace, which for me is his best trait. I reckon it might be the first sign of an upturn in his effectiveness.
  8. Not for me. Hunter doesn't offer what Windsor offers. Having said that, Windsor looks tired and could need a step back to Casey.
  9. 6. Viney 5. Rivers 4. Max 3. May 2. Salem 1. ANB
  10. For those bagging Oliver, watch the reply. No, he is not at his best and it wasn't great by him, but he was held, scragged, pushed away from the contest by players facing away from the play, and huge Xerri was sometimes the 2nd player in on top of him.
  11. Windsor's two stupid 50m penalties were the momentum swingers. Worrying last quarter. Viney, Gawn and ANB showed outstanding leadership in the last 5 mins. Not sure what was in Kozzie's head tonight but he looked timid and disinterested A LOT of youth tonight - Kolstrup, Brown, Turner, Howes, Windsor. Kolstrup showed a bit.
  12. Even game. We are not coping with their run They are not coping with our possession game. Hard tag and lots of physicality onto Clarry. Fritta being double and triple teamed. Our spot-up kick, or 45 degrees line changing kick rarely working. Often being read early by the Roos and cutting it off.
  13. Wow rivers - you gun!!
  14. A fairly even contribution from most players, with many having good moments. A few quiet ones but that is normal. This is the first time in a long time I don't have a churning gut. Great to see our hunger around the contest. Nowhere near our best but I will take a 24 point lead any time. Great to see Petty up and about, Kolstrup has looked good, Viney and Sparrow hard at it, Salem looking the best he has been all year.

I think one of the two Blues copped a high whack just before they collided.

I am in the horrible position of despising everything Carlton, but enjoying their style of footy. The orange highlight helps by making me trick myself into thinking it is not Carlton.
  17. So many players develop slowly, and the bigger they are the longer it often takes. Frawley, Jamar, Garland, Nicholson just to name a few semi-recent ones who started slowly. This kid looks like an AFL player to me and I look forward to what he is becoming.
  18. Always great to see a debut. However, I am surprised. I would have thought others from Casey were ahead of him for a debut (AMW for example) but I think it is his two way running, attitude and adaptability that might have given him the nod. His dad was one of my favourite players: dogged and consistent, but also had a great side-step and feint to throw opposition players away from him. It would be great to see this passed down the genetic line.

Dusty is the best match-winner I have seen. Plays big games and big moments far better than any other player I can recall. His physical strength, fend off, running through tackles, and all round physical dominance are all of the highest quality, but it is his kicking that sets him over everyone else. Darren Jarman, Travis Johnstone, Wayne Carey, Mark Browning, Ablett snr - all elite kicks. But Dusty has them all covered. His kicking on the run for goal, or long range field kicking just made me sit back and enjoy the best game in the world. I would be disappointed for him if he plays anywhere else - he is yellow and black to the core.

In that last quarter, North let the Pies free to do their outside run and overlap game. Hoskin-Elliot, Sidebottom, and others constantly free outside or forward of the ball over and over again. The Roos will be gutted by that loss but the defensive mindset was just not there. On top of that, some decision making brain fades when moving forward, and that horrendous last shot on goal that missed everything = not knowing how to win. The Roos are slowly coming emerging, but I see a lot of the Dees 2015/2016 abut them.

That North goal started on line with the point post, and swung in!

Any team on any day can be on or off. Even the Swans got done by the Tigers. Also, a lot of the games have been of poor entertainment quality this year - maybe even around 60% of them - but I am actually enjoying the style of footy being played by Tigers, Hawks, and today the Roos. But to come on this thread to see people's thoughts on non MFC games, only to be flooded with the latest click bait rhetoric of Goodwin is hopeless, we are the worst team in the comp, imagine if they were playing us, our list management is the worst . . . blah, blah, blah is simply nauseating. I am as frustrated as anyone, but maybe we a need a separate thread entitled "my vitriol when everything is not going my way"? And back to the game at hand: how good is it to see the Pies stinking it up, and their horrendous supporter base silenced by pathetic football!! Makes for an enjoyable Sunday arvo. I just hope they can keep it going.

  24. Team stats very even. Occasional lack of intensity but so did the Pies. Gameplan looks to be basically OK but no run and carry or angle-kicks to break open lines and angles. Similar shots on goal. Our in close to outside handballing is atrocious. Our kicking skills inside F50 is worse.
  25. Since our last horrendous defeat, I needed a break from footy and Demonland. Watching now, with my guts turning with every forward thrust, our lack of composure and brains forward of centre is doing my head in. Not sure I can watch for too long today. We are having a good crack and in every contest, but if a ball spills it is three to one as the Pies spread. For the Pies to get a goal from that last forward attempt by the Dees is a window into our thinking and confidence. Sad to watch it all so far.
