  1. 6. Harmes. Daylight 3. Brayshaw 2. OMac 1. TMac As for Salem, repeatedly crumples under pressure in important moments.
  2. Massive fan of Jonesy, and I think a lot of talk about his week-by-week performances is myopic and pre-conceived. . His work rate remains fairly high and often "directs traffic". For me, his influence during peak game times is very very poor right now and doesn't look like it is coming back. That miss from just inside 50 was out-on-the-full. Nowhere near it. And as someone wrote above, as the Dees built momentum in the last quarter, he was doing a lot of running between the arcs and rarely impacting the contest. And his field kicking is as bad as it was in his first 2 seasons, which was abominable. I hate to say it, but Viney in 2019 is looking better every week.
  3. Very important stat right there. We fold under pressure of every kind. On the ball pressure, perceived pressure, the pressure of expectation. With Lewis being here now for his 3rd season I thought we might have moved on but we have not. Not wanting to drop players because of one bad game, but there are a few who consistently crumple under pressure - Jeffy, Salem, JKH Hogan (not all the time but often enough, and usually in front of goal).
  4. Nothing to do with the coach. The "system" worked. The actual kicking was the let down. Spargo - who I am a huge fan of by the way - was atrocious today. Couldn't kick over a jam tin, rushing his set shots. Hogan - I just don't get his constant easy misses. Jeffy. That miss on the run while momentum was moving our way. That is what you are in the team for. Energy sapper right there. Jones on the run. One beauty and one shocker. Twice in the last quarter a play-on and a slip over cost us walk-in goals. No coach fixes this stuff, players do. Really, really poor.
  5. Furious. All my family deserted me and left me stomping around the living room groaning and grimacing at: Un-pressured turnovers (how many times in a single season am I going to type or say that word? Did some of the Sydney players have Melbourne jumpers on?) Kicking. Goal kicking. Field kicking. 2nd to the ball - almost all day. Beaten by unknown lumps in Sydney jumpers who simply got in first. Some very poor performances: Pederson, Jeffy, Spargo, Hunt, JKH,. And if not for Harmes we would have been flogged.
  6. My favourite player. His hardness, run and carry, skills on both sides of his body. Absolutely stoked with this.
  7. Don't understand all the OMac hate. He had a bad night but has been very good for most of the year. If you are looking for somewhere to pour your vitriol, try these: Petracca doing a blind barrel with no target or purpose. JKH missing a simple unhurried snap. No third man up coming across Hawkins - not once in the last quarter. Lewis, Jones and Vince - not one of them dropping back to fill up he space in front of Hawkins - not one.
  8. 5 goals up and we lose. They kick out from full back and go end to end without a Dees player touching it. With only seconds to go. My son asked me what's the score. I replied "under 5 minutes we are 2 points up - but we rarely win close games. Watch the Cats get easy possession and kick a goal". I feel absolute shite right now.
  9. Doing everything except finishing our hard work inside 50. So frustrating because it feels like the Dees are continually going to explode, only to kick to Hogan, TMac or Petracca who have 2 opponents. I feel we are far the better side but wasteful (again!).
  10. Dees annihilate Pies in QB game, leading to Buckley being sacked, and Eddie losing out in a board challenge to his presidency. Dees finish 5th after Home and Away season. A suprise B & F winner - someone like Salem, Brayshaw or Hunt. We beat North. Weideman replaces Pederson on or after round 12. One of Dion Johnston or Spargo become established starting 22 small forward.
  11. I hope he returns to his best and tears it up for Port, but not against us. Just one of those quality people that make the whole club a better place. And if he and Watts get a run against us, I actually hope we cheer and clap when they come on. After that I will feel happy to treat them like the opposition and abuse the carp out of them.
  12. Connors has said this not because it is TRUE. He has said it because the more he says it, the more likely these players will recieve higher offers, and his 30 pieces of silver might become 31 or 32. It is propoganda designed for LEVERage.
  13. THAT voice. Once heard, never forgotten. Seems a life time ago now, being drawn to his voice on the radio. He was one of those rare people of his generation who had followers - people turned on the radio just to listen to him. RIP, Harry.
  14. OK, so moving away from the strange views of some of our posters, who sound like opposition suppporters trolling the site, back to the thread. Is JL important? Yes. Leadership, kicking skill, experience. Is he perfect? No Is he declining? Yes.
  15. Leadership, off ball setting up and positioning, articulate and inspiring when he speaks in public. A great addition to the Dees. His day today was very ordinary and he will cop a blast from the coaches for his work rate at times. But still worth every cent over 3 years.
  16. How quickly I have forgotten the brilliance and skill of Aaron Davey, Travis Johnstone, and Adem Yze. The footage of Robbie still gets me teary - still the best Dees player I have ever seen. There is something divine or ephemeral about him that makes all other players look like orange cones. The physical impact of Barrassi, Neitz and Shwartz. Ash, you have made my night - thanks for all your work.
  17. What a player! Everyone talks about Eddie Betts and Steven Milne as the best modern day small forwards. The Wiz was their equal and x3 for excitement. Thise 3 years 1998-2000 were incredible football and he was a big part of it. And he played well in finals, a rare gift. He is up there with Jakovich, Schwartz and Jurrah as players who made you go to games.
  18. Zak Jones seemed to be a really good player on another team, but not one I had any interest in apart from being related to Nathan. But this year he has produced some real dash, and his kicking is on a quick improvement path. Considering we keep rotating ANB, Harmes, Kent, Stretch, etc.... in and out on form, I reckon he is ahead of this lot so could be in our starting 22.
  19. I still have a deep, cold, inner hatred for all things Collingwood that will not fade or die. It's in the blood. My great-grandfather was a passionate Dees man who despised Collingwood during the 1920's, my Nan followd on, my Mum remembers the great Melbourne-Collingwood rivalry of the 50's and 60's, and I simply hate them. For modern rivals we probably don't have one due to our lack of success, but I hate Essendon. The 2000 season with their Sheedy-instilled thuggery, hubris and arrogance ended on GF day when a brilliant young Dees team was beaten into the turf. I just want to annihilate them. Even more since their doping scandal. I was at the MCG the day Whelan hit Hird hard and although I don't like footy thugs I do remember standing and celebrating. I wish they had folded to be honest. GWS is an interesting one. My daughter and I go the Dees-GWS match each year calling it our "annual booing of Tom Scully game", and enjoy giving it to him (along with about 20,000 other Dees supporters) every time he does near the ball. But as a team they remain irrelevant to me.
  20. Agree totally with this. Wagner showed enough and another preseason should add more. The more I see of Joel Smith the more he comes across as a real smokey who could be something unique. Add to this that Weideman is effectively our first round draft pick this year as well, and our inward changes are Lewis, Hibberd, Wagner, Weideman Smith, and draft position 47. Very happy with this. Oops, forgot about Melksham who, although came to us via last year's trading, is in effective also an inward for this draft/trade period.
  21. Yeah, I know, just makes me feel sad for Grimes who I greatly respected. We burnt a lot of potential footballers from 2008 - 2014 and at times Grimes rose above all the junk and represented the Dees with dignity and strength.
  22. I know that Jack Grimes' limitations as a footballer made his time at the Dees over. But to see "delisted" next to his name just feels wrong to me. For an ex Captain who gave his all during those horrible years I wonder if there was a more dignified way to help him exit. Feels a little bit North Mebourne-ish and clumsy.
  23. Matt Jones is no longer a list clogger. After 2015 he went away, worked on his fitness and skills, and came back in an impressive condition. From memory, he played round 1 this season. His kicking has improved, his game awareness has improved, and he does one thing well that Roos loves - he plays the role assigned to him. He is another one, just like Jetta, who has improved out of sight under our new player-development emphasis. I don't see him as best 22, and younger players will overtake him easily, but I would not be letting him go while we have a handful of players who definitely offer us nothing.
  24. No way he will leave. He is a WA boy through and through, and Freo's next captain. As a professional footballer, his manager would be remiss in his duties if he didn't explore options, but in the interviews I have seen with him he doesn't seem motivated by money. Perhaps the current status of the Freo list may pose questions for him but not enough to leave.
  25. I would expand the thanks to include our president, Glen Bartlett. I know he is low profile and his public speaking can be boring, but his quietness, behind the scenes ground work and business acumen have done a lot of unsung work for MFC. The fact that he lets Roos and PJ do all the public stuff, and he is happy in the background shows a wisdom and dedication to teamwork that shames oth3r clubs like Collingwood etc... These three men - Roos, PJ and Bartlett - have done moer for us in 3+ years than all the falsse dawns of Barassi, Stynes etc...
