Just wondering if any of those who attended could share how the night went with the rest of us. Hope it was a good night for both the attendees and the club itself. (Apologies if updates had been posted elsewhere)
-
Agree he is ridiculously overrated. Plays with little to no accountability and is poor when forced to defend. No bloody way!
-
Agree completely...

Jackson identified that Watts was going through many similar things as Jobe did in the first few years of his career- big expectations, struggling for consistent performances and all the mental stuff and how he turned it around to become one of the best in the game. Put Jobe and Jack in contact and subsequently a meeting or meetings (I don't know if ongoing at all) took place between the two. I reckon it is great to see from all parties for different reasons each.
-
If as reported that upon Peter Jacksons request Watson has had a chat to Watts about what he went through then it just shows how great a bloke Watson really is. Never heard a bad story about the bloke. And Jackson isn't mucking round either- great to see. And good on Jack too for seeking ways to improve himself.

I'm pretty sure you'll find it is a league requirement. Part of the broadcast rights deal that they make a player available during press conference post match.

Ron Baggott passed away on 26 April 2013 at age 96 years. His career was ended at the age of just 25 by the war yet his career achievements are remarkable and have him up with the greats of this club. 133 games. 308 goals. 1939, 1940, 1941 premierships 1940 best and fairest Victorian representative Hall of Fame member One of the 150 Heroes Devoted Demon, father, grandfather and great grandfather who saw out one last Anzac Day. From the club website: A contemporary and great friend of Norm Smith, Ron Baggott came from a wonderful footballing family, with brother Jack a star at Richmond who went on to take his place in coaching ranks. With his talent spotted at an early age, Baggott played in Melbournes Seconds premiership in 1934, and it was not long before his speed, accuracy and marking ability was noted. He was soon elevated to the senior side, making his debut in Round 12, 1935. Baggott quickly became a vital ingredient in the Checker Hughes coached line ups of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Described by Checker as one of those loosely put together players who was always hard to beat, Baggott was ever reliable on the run, and an integral member of the 1939, 1940 and 1941 premiership sides. Best and Fairest in 1940, he also represented Victoria in 1939. Continuing his good form in 1941, Baggott became one of many players to have his career interrupted by wartime service, enlisting with the RAAF in 1942. He returned to the side in 1945, and despite ongoing service commitments and health problems, was able to add steadiness and experience to a young side throughout a nearly full season. This was Baggotts last foray in red and blue, taking him to 133 games and 308 goals for his career, with his goals tally seeing him at tenth place in the Clubs records to this day. He was made a Life Member of the Club in 1946. Going on to captain-coach VFA side Brunswick, Baggott again joined forces with Norm Smith as assistant coach from 1958 to 1961, and as Reserves coach from 1959 to 1961. He was also involved in radio, and worked with the railways. Inducted into Melbournes Hall of Fame in 2003, Baggott was recognised as a Hero of the Club in 2008. He will always be a treasured figure in the Clubs story, and we offer our most sincere condolences to his son Ian and daughter Joan, along with all his family and friends, upon his passing. Information regarding Ron Baggotts funeral will be provided on the Club website when available.

Casey Scorpions v Williamstown
Grandson of a gun replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
It would seem like their sort of conditions. Thanks again. For Dawes it will just be about getting a run into his legs and coming through unscathed. -
Casey Scorpions v Williamstown
Grandson of a gun replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thanks Maldonboy. Finally a return to the topic. I haven't seen Fitzy this year and even though he has played some good games his inability as a tall to mark the ball I believe will ultimately hold him back as at AFL level he simply will not have the time nor opportunity to double back on the spilt ball. He will also meet quicker and stronger defenders. I may be proven wrong but he needs to improve his marking ability in my view. There is something I really like about Taggert. Just hope he keeps the upward curve going and can translate to AFL. I honestly feel we are missing Dunn in the AFL side at the moment coming out of defence. I'm assuming Jimmy and Couch racked em up in the middle again? Glad Strauss is also playing more consistently. Another who I feel can step up if he gets an uninterrupted run at it. -

Any chance we could return to the topic of the thread and how the scorpions went instead of an MJT threeonesix [censored] thread? Any reports from the ground / stats etc? Cheers -

Out- Clark, Jetta, Viney? In- McKenzie, Dunn, Strauss Mckenzie to Rockliff in middle and Dunn on him or Zorko when one rests forward Bail to Zorko/Redden where possible Use Dunn wherever possible to make Rockliff/Zorko accountable and drag them away from goal Frawley to Brown McDonald to Martin/Leuenberger Strauss to play as an attacking HBF Watts on other HBF Garland the spare defender Gawn and Pedo up forward and to rotate with Jamar through ruck and bench Burnes on HFF and Flash deep to give crumbers/good ball users/goal sneaks on both lines The rest of the team playing through midfield/forward. My Plan A anyway =)

Am i imagining it or wasn't he reported or suspended at some stage last year or the year before thus eliminating the good record discount. Happy to be corrected. Think it will be adjudged a 2 week hit with a loading making it 3 but an early plea bringing it back to 2.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - ROUND 4
Grandson of a gun replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6- Jones- Never, Ever stops trying. Ever 5- Howe- Dangerous all day 4- Evans- The last quarter got him there 3- Trengove- Worked tirelessly and kicked a clutch Captains goal. 2- Grimes- I have a serious man crush on this bloke 1- Gawn- The big dawg was fantastic... -
Read this Robbie. Well said Redleg.
-
Lol. Now trying to deflect Robbie. You are a battler. I am an advocate of giving kids a chance. You however like to muddy the waters and put words in my mouth. Some kids make it some don't. Some recruiting decisions have been poor some have been great. Our developmental abilities leave a lot to be desired. Oh, By the way, as Jamar is so bad, when is your ruck gun Jake Spencer going to carry us in the ruck? Oh that's right..... But that is another topic and a clear attempt at deflection by you.
-
Lol. You have backtracked a long way Robbie. You are laughable. I never said they weren't accountable. But you are the one who shot his load prematurely about a lying deceitful board and is now trying to sidestep your original assertions when all you has to do was take a step back and examine facts on a whole instead of putting blind faith in people like Barrett. As a Foundation member I applaud your support of the club. You have shown however a great ability to get sucked into sensationalism and an inability to consider all facts before making an assertion. Perhaps FW was a bit strong, but certainly you at times have NFI....
-
So the club (read McLardy, Schwab and the FD) tell the AFL the truth as they know it and as it turns out it was the Doc who was hiding his communications. The board nor the football department never "lied" to the AFL at all. Just like Eddie going in to bat for Didak and Shaw and then finding our they didn't give him the whole truth. So my question is to u RobbieF.... You are so quick to Jump to conclusions, brow beat and label others FW's claiming they have no idea when all they said was try would wait for more facts to appear before they pass judgement and guess what, you went off half cocked as we're made to look like a fool again. There are some serious issues with the administration which may well have been rectified to some degree with the Schwab axing however you labelled the board as out and out liers and deceitful when in fact they weren't. Once again you have proven why YAAFW.....
-
As most on here thought- he was AFL appointed, or at least pushed forward by the AFL. Age article here
-
I'm just not willing to jump to conclusions without all the facts.Because that differs from how you view things you believe I don't get it. You like to bully and harp on a point but guess what Robbie, just because someone differs from your opinion does not mean they don't had an intricate understanding of the problems being faced, they just choose to react and handle them differently. Get over yourself...
-
Denying something to that parasite Barrett is different to conversations with the AFL. Everyone is keen to sink the club for not telling the truth when they has no idea what conversations were had or are being had with the AFL. Since when did Barrett speak the gospel truth? Since when did he report a story truthfully and in full detail without any bias or sensationalism. The situation appears quite different to Essendon on face value and perhaps the majority here need to take a step back and wait until the full facts are known rather than the usual jumping to wild conclusions...

I'm in. Always have been. Always will be. Heart ripped out or not. There to the end of the wins There to the end of the losses There to the end of the disaster I'm there....

There is a lot of love for Evans and Nicho too but when we are crying out for players who can hit targets with their feet these two really struggle. No good getting it 20 times for 10 turnovers especially in a lowly team. Love their endeavor and work ethic but it is their skill level that will ultimately hold them back. Strauss, Jones and or Kent and maybe Taggert if his skills hold up.

You are comical Ben.Your head is so far up your own rectum that you actually think your $hit taste good. Your opinion of the strength of your own opinions is laughable. The fact that you always have to have the last word and constantly express how right you are and how wrong others are unfortunately screams out a very insecure person. Here's a thought, instead of being argumentative all the time, accept a difference of opinion and move on... Bet I'm wrong though.....
