Dees find their crumbing forward - I'm rapt!
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to Parma's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting insight if true. I reckon it would be good for Jurrah too as I'm sure he will enjoy playing alongside Davey -
Lets hope this year delivers at least one memorable victory, H & A or otherwise!

Yeah similar thing happened to me. I was working that night and was watching snippets on the TV during my shift. I knocked off at 3rd quarter time in a great mood thinking we had it in the bag and rushed home to watch the last quarter...totally devastating, just couldn't believe we let it slip so easily!

2012: THE TEAM TO BEAT
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very true. I would have thought Carlton would be up there this year if Judd can maintain his form and ability to pull the whole team along. They lost a few close ones they could have won (e.g. against Geelong). One flag for such a dominant player doesn't seem like a great return so far... As for Geelong, they won a bunch of games earlier in 2011 by a whisker so this year they might drop a few of those so who knows...Can't see them sliding far though for a while -
This whole situation is really starting to stink! This really appears like the AFL sacking the CEO because they realise there is a mess that needs cleaning up (and covering up) before the [censored] really hit the fan.

Just saw read about that. How bizarre, smells very bad

Neeld's first Meeting with our Players
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to drdrake's topic in Melbourne Demons
I thought Slyvia spoke the best in that clip from the Best and Fairest...but then again, words have never been an issue for him -
They still have to agree to terms don't they? Still, looks like we've missed this one

Or perhaps its just a regular end-of season review...

I can't help but think of Paul Kelly's words when I think of Trengove's response following the Skilled Stadiunm debacle They say the darkest hour is right before the dawn And in the hour of greatest slaughter the great avenger is being born If he keeps it up he will be captain of the MFC one day and lets hope he will be our avenger
-
Exactly. So you have to wonder whether that strategy can be considered somewhat as a failure, but in fairness to the club they probably didn't expect the Scully scenario to eventuate, rather that in a few years time they might be struggling to keep a list of high draft picks together due to bids from other clubs.

I am just basing it on his reputation as a 'professional' in the way he goes about his preparation and his brief media appearances to date. I should have emphasised that I said his potential leadership capabilities, as you are correct in stating that this has yet to be proven on the field beyond a few impressive cameo efforts in 2010 - notably the last quarter against the dogs. As for the real reason why he left the China Trip, that is besides the point. I was just trying to make sense of what might have influenced his decision beyond the money, which obviously played a huge role, because it seemed like Melbourne had tried to recruit a group of young players who they thought would form a strong bond together.

If Scully felt out of place in a young team like Melbourne with a number of players in a similar age bracket some of whom had been former teammates and from his junior days is would seem very mislead to expect he would find a better fit elsewhere. He may have been lead to believe that GWS would offer the opportunity to build a team around similar values and ideals to his own rather than fighting to change the culture of an existing club or feeling slighty out of place. This seems naive at best and arrogant at worst. There's no doubting his leadership potential given the small amounts of it we have been seen to date but it is very hard to expect he can achieve such a feat in the circumstance he going into at GWS. The same cultural issues are pervasive in AFL clubs and while they have changed over the years largely thanks to the media's appetite for scandals the culture of footy clubs reflects much of the culture of Australia (and the communities and clubs where players grow up) which are so entrenched that incremental change is the best you can really aspire to. I think the its a sign of one's character to confront these challenges rather than seeking to taken the first opportunity to try your luck elsewhere in the search for greener pastures. Sure the challenges facing Tom at GWS will still be immense and he will now have the pressure of leading a young team and managing his own injury issues with the knowledge he is one of the highest paid players in the league. But I think Jack Trengove trumped him in spades when he signed up in the face of great adversity and I think that is exactly the kind of leader we need at our club and it's great that the supporters recognise it as such.

Tom Scully in September ...
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to Grandson of a gun's topic in Melbourne Demons
I made this same comment a while ago and I still thin it holds some weight - if he is concerned about his degenerative knee issue affecting the length of his career then the GWS offer would have been harder to refuse. -
What do we do with no. 31 jumper?

The West Coast game sent me into meltdown as well, especially watching Darling taking marks and kicking goals, felt like they were just rubbing it in our face. Lets hope the next coach can at least make us competitive each week. -
Let's bring John Butcher back home!
Deetective Sgt. Taggert replied to SidVicious's topic in Melbourne Demons
Port Adelaide's John Butcher likely to re-sign but Carlton interested Sounds like a few clubs are interested. Glad we are apparently one of them! -

Haha, I wish I couldn't relate to that feeling there used to be another funny one on youtube that someone had filmed of their dad losing it after we lost to collingwood in round 2 last year.
