Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
@Deemania since 56 if you are talking about Stretch - probably 70% of his possessions were first touch possies and 30% receiving from others. Really good game from him.

Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
He lurks well and he is in the right positions just isn’t having that pick me game. I don’t know what the coaches are looking for but I thought we’d see him deep crumbing but seemed to play high half forward. The Hannan role. Interesting to see what happens for the rest of the year. We have to be a better team with him than without him.

He does great things off the ball. He did great work off the ball in the forward line and was responsible for some Hogan goals. If he can get a break out game at Afl level it will really worry backlines. As Derm says: Hogan and McDonald could be the 2 best forwards in the comp. we’ve also got a really good third as well.

Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
Interesting discussion. Think back to the fact that we played Oscar underdeveloped because long term it was the right call. How long until we do the same with Petty? I think that the next 3 are perfect for Weid to see how his form is tracking. I think he just offers something different from our other talls. @DeeSpencer agree with Pedo. A see how this goes. He used to play back so it’s not new. @wizardinoz I don’t know if Pedo was near it enough to have a bad game =p what did people see in Garlett’s game? @dl4e?

Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
Weideman had his breakout game. He has a 6 goal game last year against better opposition but for me this was better because the conditions were not key forward conditions, he took some unbelievable marks, he was not beaten in a contest, he was good around the ground, and played well in the ruck as well. Billy - Trac and ANB aren’t making way for him. He was fantastic around the contest and if Viney, Oliver, Jones were injured tomorrow he’d be first in. Maybe he might come in for someone like a Harmes but he is there ready to go when he is needed. The old cliche just be in good form when an opportunity is knocking and he was. Good he hit the score board, would have had a heap of metres gained as well. Both things that aren’t trademarks of his AFL career thus far. The backs - Frost was better this week because he played unaccountable football. And we know how good he is when he can run, kick and do what he wants. The issue is that this is not what we are asking of him at AFL level so it’s a bit hard to see him making it back in next week. Wouldn’t be surprised though. Pedo was good and locked down well. Petty played quite well but it wasn’t a day where the backman could star as it was an easy day at the office for them. Baker - sorry - not for mine just yet. Ran well, smart taps, good football sense. You can see he can make it, but not yet. JKH - really great inside outside game. Played some nice minutes as a high half forward. Will play great AFL football next year for a team that picks him up. Balic - time and space. Didn’t have a great game but you just can see AFL qualities and class in him. And a will to make it happen. This year is a Building year and looking forward to what he does JLT next year. Bugg is a tough one. Was not near it in the first half and then was great when he went into the centre. I’m interested to see what happens as the year progresses. Wouldn’t have had many metres gained, but was good in tight.

Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
Stretch continuing to be best on. Clearance numbers would be Oliver-esc. He is kicking really well and finding space. He does look like he could come in and play a role - I wonder though if Harmes and ANB are playing his role so he can’t get in? Weiderman is playing really well. Conditions not helping him but hasn’t been beaten and presented really well. I can see him being called back in sooner rather than later. Just a super talent and does all the basic stuff right. Playing really well in the ruck as well. Frost playing really solidly in the backline and his running and kicking setting us up. I think he will be an emergency next round at least. Spargo looks like he has hit the rookie wall. He looks spent! Playing inside mid though and doing some nice things. Does look classy but tired. Bugg quiet so they’ve moved him into the middle. Garlett sitting at the back of packs. IF he is brought back in its based on his training and team things, not on his performance. Petty and Pedo are solid. They aren’t really needed as it’s not in the back 50. Been impressed with Johnstone - changing my opinion of him. Balic pressuring but not having a great game. i know a lot of love for Baker out there. Not the sort of conditions or game for him. Coach would be happy with his pressure and running patterns though.

Rain coming down now sadly. Would be good to have a clean game for our talls.

Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
He is but I’d be interested what he’s doing as he doesn’t seem to be the deep option but he’s not around the ball like a high half forward. @Drunkn167 can you confirm? Thanks. He just appeared with a good smoother.

Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
Pedo playing back - but doesn’t seem to be having an impact. Solid though. Really impressed with Bil and Weids. Just look so classy at this level. The 2 id be looking at for next week. Spargo playing inside mid. Doing alright but not dominating. JKH should have gone to Carlton. Would have played 13 games in the AFL next to Cripps. Frost probably the best of the backs for the second key forward. More for his run rather than his lock down work.

Casey Demons v Coburg - VFL Round 12
What happens with games like this is that say Stretch and Garlett do the warm up with the boys in Adelaide and as soon as the game starts they are off to the airport and usually land before the game ends so they are ready to play on the Saturday. The issues lie when the game is on at the same time / the day after Casey. Agree that we do need to get more game time into some of these boys who havent played for a while.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
Correct. I don’t know where they were on our board but know that we were pleasantly suprised they fell that low. And both I feel have now shown they were worth more than their pick. Langdon starting to do the same.

Andrew Gaff
@Satyriconhome I get what you are saying in that we tend to overrate opposition players and possibly we are thinking that Gaff will solve all our issues and be our messiah. However he is a proven performer, he’s had many great seasons, the best is still ahead of him, he is a Brownlow fancy, and Sydney put a hard tag on him and he still had 24, 6 clearances and 6 inside 50s. I love billy and ANB but they aren’t getting a hard tag. If he does get tagged out of games at the dees, then think about the space Brayshaw and Salem will get. He might not be the messiah, we might overrate him, but he will make our side better and that’s enough for me.

Post Match Discussion - Round 12
Gus really good analysis on AFL exchange podcast. Said that Dees were getting complacent and it was better to loose than to limp over the line the way they were playing. They are re-focusing and are better for it.

Shaun Smith: Joel can fill Lever's Role
Played really well on Milochek and when he went to Cox I thought he played him well considering he gave up 17 cms. He got in front and blocked Cox’s run. He ended up being one of our best.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
Interesting and can confirm we were up to our eyeballs in this kid. Taylor called him on the night to apologise he wasn’t going to be a Dee because Oscar dropped to us. We had ANB and Oscar much higher on our draft board than where we drafted them and Ed was pretty sure he was going to be a Dee with pick 53. Don’t know if he’s keen to come back but apparently he ‘understood’ our decision. Hope that insight helps.

Casey Demons v Collingwood VFL - Round 10
I agree with you (kind of). I'll agree that in year 3 if Petty still hasnt played a game of AFL and his trajectory has continued upwards he'll be on his way to a club he can play AFL week in week out with. However, I see a spot for all 3 (and Joel Smith) in Year 3. Oscar is the one-on-one guy, with Petty able to do this as well against the double key forwards. This allows Lever to play 3rd man up and loose in defence which is perfect for him. He is able to play small but really with a zone and team defence, he really should not be playing one-on-one (which he really hasnt done since Round 2). Petty reads the play really well, has great hands, and from what we have seen thus far can kick and make good decisions. If he has a tank, then it doesnt matter that he is 197 and we have 4 blokes down there above 190cm. If they are able to play 90% game time and hold down the fort, it means that we are rotating our mids; which is going to come in handy considering they are going to reduce the interchange cap by the looks of it. Having the Casey game on TV was great so we could all see how the development is progressing and hopefully in 12-24 months time we will have all Casey games televised.

Casey Demons v Collingwood VFL - Round 10
Weid could have had a few. Had two lace out passes that he was cut in front of by JKH and Balic. Quiet first half but worked his way into the game nicely. Was Hunt tagged? Just really felt he couldn’t get into the game at all. And on the balic debate. He’ll be extended. Looks too good to just let him leave.

Post Match Discussion - Round 10
I know that Sydney a few years back, and Hawthorn two years ago were "our best wins" of the modern era. I think that possibly this one might take the cake. The other thing to remember is, we are so very, very young. There is no reason that this cannot continue for a decade, when Gus and Trac are doing Lewis and Vince things.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 10
6. Brayshaw - it is games like this that you remember why Roos thought this boy was the best in the draft. Look at the top 5 disposal getters - Brayshaw, Oliver, Viney, Jones, Salem. When those 5 are the top 5, we arent loosing games. 5. Hogan - He just worked so hard and has such great hands. Now he has his kicking boots back on, watch out! 4. Gawn - monstered Sauce. 49-21 hitouts. Believe you me he was one of the reasons we won. 3. Viney - awe he's back. Just argued with everyone. 2. Oliver - like Gawn, we just are numb to 31 touches, 10 tackles, 10 clearances, 16 contested possessions. He's a gun. 1. ANB - showing why he was a top 10 player last year.

Port Melbourne v Casey Demons - Round 8
@Wrecker45 If you’ve got time - can you give us a little more about Petty, how he’s been going - strengths etc? Thanks so much.
