Question: We have so much developing talent. Perhaps too much in one sense. Are we better to take two young kids as rookies or two mature players (like Panos) to help the young kids develop at Casey? And this concept of taking Tyler "for old time sake" is amazing. We are a professional football club for heavens sake.

We don't need depth. We need some players to become elite.

Sorry Jack, I was just joking. Should have put an emoticon to make it obvious to you next time...... -
Unlike most here I'm yet to see what Scully did wrong. Welcome Hoges..... Just sayin'

RIP Phil Hughes and thoughts and sympathies with his family and friends. His death has touched so many. It's a shocking thing as is the lost life of any young person. I really feel for Shaun Abbott. I can't imagine what he's going through.

Saty do you know if the players we draft tonight will be training tomorrow? It'd be good to get an early start........... -
Wish we'd done a psyche test on Neeld and Schwab. Just sayin'

That cuts it down a bit!
-
Yes.
-
That leaves a lot of players!

I'm in the camp that says it's a combination of both drafting and development but what I don't really understand is why our development has been so poor. Is it because we've had the wrong development coaches, the wrong senior and line coaches or that we've had to promote these kids early and being played in the seniors in a poor team at a young age has meant they haven't developed? Is it the lack of good senior players? At least we can't complain about the lack of first class facilities.

Well I must admit it has spiced things up. I'd probably favour McC/Bray to Petracca/Bray but I've no real idea. I just like the idea of a KPP and a mid as we'll likely get a couple more mids next year with an early pick and Lovett.

Oh dear, sorry Nut. The problem is you talk so much sense in a conversational and friendly way I forgot you. Actually there are a lot of good posters around aren't there. Your in the top bracket.

To what end Red?PS. You are my favourite poster!

Not the testing you quoted but it is part of the test. All players do a personality profile, or at least they did. Can't imagine it's changed.

Pleasure! At least someone has a sense of humour!

When we took Watts our selection was leaked to the press (by us) prior to the draft. Schwabby wanted the publicity. The AFL didn't take kindly to it as they instruct clubs not to say who they are going to take as it removes a lot of the suspense from draft night. If the instruction wasn't there then there would be little or no reason why the Saints wouldn't say who they are going to take.

Thanks for your prompt response, I've come to rely on it. I'm not following you around, you're unavoidable. You've had 16,000 posts since 2007 and I've had 3000 since 2004. I had you on ignore for a while but I found the forum didn't make sense because half of the content was missing and it was difficult to follow the discussion so now I don't have you on ignore and I find the discussion more difficult to follow. But I continue to come here because there are some really excellent posters like Chaser, rj, hh, the "goods" 'oil and 'vibes, Qwerty30, Pennant, Nasher, DA and others. Excellent discussion with these blokes with no big dick waving. Anyway thanks again on your prompt reply and have a nice day.

If you've got him on ignore don't worry about it, you won't see his reply. And spare us your continuing advice on what we should do and what we shouldn't. It's tiresome and unnecessarily personal.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
Slartibartfast replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ever thought of picking/not picking him on form? Roos has form on this. JKH. That would overcome this rather brainless discussion of whether he deserves a game round 1 and your premise that "good clubs would do". Good clubs would pick him if he was in the best 22. If he's in ours he plays. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA

What ever impact he makes in his first year it won't live up to Demonland expectations. -
Then it was a strange decision to quit. The number of players to have gone through this process at MFC and other clubs means it's just a list management decision. He seems to think like RPFC and has decided to take umbrage rather than like Nev and "prove them wrong".

Drove my Morris Marshall to the show Nut, loved both. Great days and I still love the music from the play. -
Maybe for you but not for me. I'd say his heart wasn't in it because if it was he'd have taken the rookie spot as the majority of others have in the past. Evans would have known he was a marginal play on the list. He would have known that no other club had any interest in him. He would have seen himself behind a bevy of younger and better players and from last year he would have known that he struggled to play Roos' game plan. I reckon there was a good chance he was going to coast through the year and concentrate on his studies anyway - only playing for the money. When the rookie list option was put to him he just thought "you ripper, full pay to study for the year". Good outcome for both parties.

I've just watched the highlights. Makes me realize how difficult it would be being a recruiter. McCartin mauling kids much smaller than him and looks terrific. You'd never get to see the kid play on big bodies and that's who he'll get in his career. Players like Fergus Watts come to mind, Nic Smith, Hanson, Thorp, Dowler and Robbie Tarrant never turned into what they were supposed to be. Then there's Roughy, Franklin, Henderson and Kennedy who probably did. How on earth would you know? Roos is spot on, picking talls is a mugs game and big bodied ones like McCartin doubly so. I'll watch his career with great interest, more so if we select him.
