The way I read it is the club is hoping to get 40,000 there, not a limit of 40k. They stated they want as many supporters as possible to attend.

    Agreed - I think.

My reading of the DHHS instructions effective from 11.59 yesterday below is that crowd limits ceased last night at any event. Over 30,000 for outdoors ( that's us) just need a CovidSafe plan(also us). Double-vaxed only presumably.

".....All indoor and outdoor events with fewer than 30,000 fully vaccinated attendees can go ahead without restrictions, while outdoor events with more than 30,000 people attending have to publish a COVIDSafe plan...."

I would play a very physical (modern word for biff) game on Fritta.

    Good call on Bailey.

His GF was fabulous, he is now a Demon legend (with a Norm Smith haircut no less) and he is a great foil for bigger forwards, but he must be stopped by the opposition and can't be given the 3rd best defender necessarily. In fact given his class in the air and on the ground, and his footy IQ, he takes a special defender.

A doggies friend was calling for Easton Wood's retirement 3 years ago. Fritsch found him out big time and Easton has recognisd reality and is now retired, but Bailey's 6 goals on the lead often had Wood miles behind him.

He will need to be prepared in 2022. I'm confident he can do this though and will cope.

  3. This is clickbait but I'll fall for it.

I rate Dermot's in-game and player analysis, but this prediction demonstrates his closed thinking loop based on habits and is asking himself the wrong question.

Anyone watching last season and the total finals series, how the Dees dismantled top teams, The Dees age profile and star power across all lines, and coaching panel smarts should be asking themselves ,NOT who will win the 2022 flag, BUT who on earth is capable of stopping the Dees winning it , and then why.

Contemplating any other team winning in 2022 is pure guesswork with a 1 in 18 chance, not serious well-though out analysis.

I listened to an interview with Derm on SEN last night where he delved into persoanl matters, and I do see him in a softer light after that.

Comparing Sparrow's finals record to Smith's is ambitious but I'm bullish on him too

Ambition is good. (paraphrasing Cometti). But what struck me was how well the youngsters performed in the heat . Sparrow had a lot of mates.

  5. WEG Poster.

Dear All,  just a heads up if not already mentioned on here.

The family of the late WEG own the rights to his work and he prepared a 1958 poster for when/if the Dees won that flag. It was cancelled obviously but the family company still had the original and have modified it for the 2021 flag.

Funnily the Demon is holding a pitchfork with 4 prongs representing what would have been the 4-peat flag.  The number 2021 has been inserted to make it current.

A friend has bought one but didn't say how you find them.

I would have got one if not for the Knight poster, or may still do so.  Not sure if the club gets a cut though.

Just posted here for interest of anyone.

I think opposition clubs are very interested in our intellectual property, or how we managed to go from ninth to first in one year. I think this is why so many from within the inner sanctum have left this season, probably for more money.

There's Burgess, Byrnes, Nev, Daniel McPherson, etc.

Then again it's one thing to know how an opposition club does something and another thing to implement it to the same standard.

You can't transplant culture.  Its about leadership from the top and champions and comes from within.  The Dees had/have Jones , Goodwin, Roffey, Burgess, Pert  -  then Gawn, Petracca, Oliver , Lever, and rest of team buy in. Plus many others on the sidelines - daisy,  grinter, lyon, Roos, .....

Pies moving on Buckley and eddie is a good start for them. Jetta will help as will a non-pies triple premiership player in McCrea.

Thanks and farewell.  Byrnes made a valuable off field contribution as player development manager.

Agreed on the delayed timing. Maybe it was a tough call given the Dees success.   I agree Nev Jetta would have been the perfect fit for player development.  I think the role at the Dees would be highly sort after and a few good candidates should emerg.

Going to the Pies is perfect for Neville.  Gets another view of clubland and enhances his experience then walk back into the Dees.  Its a possible scenario.

Smith would have been an unbelievable cherry on top.

He had an excellent year at Jeelong and there doesn't appear any signs he won't have another strong year in 2022.

Would happily play him over Sparrow (sorry)

Finals Specialist  - GF goal assists to BBB and Fritsch at clutch moments. 14 possies, 5 inside 50's

Then his 3rd 1/4 goal one for the Ages. 50 m off 1 step and 4 Dogs running at him

    Barely 21 years old.

Really who gives a toss what some EX Demons think

Most will  be  glad and many overjoyed and the odd one bearing a grudge may not have those feelings. Largely snd almost  universally our Flag triumph has been wonderfully received by the Footy World  and neutral fans very congratulatory. I received many good luck messages and also congrats from friends and acquaintances which I replied to and cherished.

In Perth for the game the same attitude was both heartening and warm from Freo especially and Eagles fans who embraced the whole game and build up and hold over the City for about a fortnight.

I also believe our balanced snd mature celebrations have resulted in a hugely respected response and also an admission given the result and the margin we thoroughly deserved our triumph as the undoubted best team in the AFL in 2021.

Its also a very important factor to success and in developing our response for 2022 and beyond.

    Nailed it 58er

Today's Age had an interesting article on what each team needs to do to improve in 2022. The Dees need to remain selfless, and thats about it.

They noted the 3rd quarter was the greatest third quarter in the history of the Grand Final.

Many non-dees have said the same to me and a Pies tragic said it was one of the most enjoyable games he'd seen.

Very, very few will have sour grapes.

I heard a joke about that supposed near-punch on in a Perth nightclub ......

(And why would they want to fight the Demons with Viney on our side and Weightman on theirs? It's like playing two men short. Before the first punch was thrown, Weightman would be rolling on the ground screaming that he's been shot.)

Kudos for this fantasy scenario - a great start to the day as a read.. Its hilarious and possibly COULD be true in another universe.

You can hear the doggies now..."...you take Viney - ..... No YOU take him, I'll take ........"

I’m worried about hanging onto Jackson and Kozzie in the long run. Other teams must have them in their sights

I'm not. In a post match interview a day or so later one of the older players relatively  (may have been salem but i can't recall exactly) noted the team discussions had turned to looking forward together to the 10 year reunion.

He said the weird thing was that jackson and pickett would still be playing then for the dees.

If I were a Dog's supporter, I'd have to suck it up. Never seen an umpire change their mind.

Correct. For example the umps didn't change their mind on the play on call after kossies around the neck travesty just before.

Angus raises his arm, Jake sees him and deliberately pulls his kick to pass to Angus. It was a pass or otherwise it would have been a longer kick.

Watched it multiple times and I am certain.

And just before he kicked he took a couple of steps backwatds to probably ensure it travelled 15 m and wasn't smothered.

Unbelievable talent and footy IQ. Find of the season i reckon. Still looks like he belongs at home though to be in bed by 9.00pm

As much as I wish Jay well, it’s a strange decision by GWS to chase a player who has been on another club’s list for a year and a half and struggled to get a game. Then again, they are after Brander as well and he’s very much in the same boat.

The Dees are in uncharted territory here.

The most players ever to win a GF that played every game of the year - 9 Players. and many more just short of all games.

The best defence of the 2000's. The best midfield of the 2000's.

How does a young bloke get a game, especailly as the average age , apart from May, is around 25.

Lockhart might be a gun, but at 25 now, the opportunities will be limited and the club made the right/pragmatic call.

    Good luck to him elsewhere.

Have been meaning to post this as well.
It was after Sparrow kicked his and the every-one went in the stadium went mad.
    Every-one but Williams.
Been there done that, seen it all before.

He's been around football clubs at the top levels his whole life.
Knows what makes footballers tick and how to bring the best from them.
Experience like his doesn't grow on trees.

5 minutes earlier when Trac was on the bench Choco grabbed him and told him to get ut there and take over the game. (Trac's words, not mine, in an interview post game when asked what did Choco say at the time)

He did, unsurprisingly to Choco, so of course he was relaxed in his own way.

  16. I believe the panel and the additons this year - Yze and Willimas, Chaplin etc. and Richo's role - helped a lot and the pen should be out for them. This coaching /mgt team needs to stay together also, at least for 2022.

Simon lead them beautifully, but I had great faith with him on the boundary (which I applaud, and Ross Lyon said would cost us ) , knowing Yze is up in the box.

  17. Good luck to any opposition team kicking a winning score against Petty, Bowey, Salem, Lever Rivers, Hunt,    etc and of course May until hopefully his 38th birthday. Honourable mentions to Spargo, Langdon, Oliver, Neal-Bullen, Brayshaw and all the other 'team' defenders who help out

The amazing stat this year as noted on the finals discussion was that if Dees kick over 65 points they win, such is the effectiveness of the defesnive stratgey and personnel.

Riv feels like another of our young brigade who should end up a 200+ gamer. Has been very impressive in his first two seasons across HB, plays with a ton of composure, is a good interceptor, has speed off half back, a long kick and plays with heart. Looking forward to many more great games from our #24 whether down back or in the midfield. Stupid sexy Riv.

And along with bowey imagine how good these kids will be at 25 after playing alongside and under May and Lever support and leadership. SALEM ALSO in that role.

Don't care who we play, we fear no-one, but would much prefer an afternoon game so i can bring my boy (he'll soon be 7). He watched the prelim and granny with me which was the first time he showed any interest in the Dees. I would love if his first game he see  live was the unfurling of the flag. Can;t think of a better way to cement his loyalty and connection to the team

Spot on. From now every team will be now  fearing playing the dees twice  . The cats especially.

I dont call a day out against Footiscray a holiday.

Nor training in the local park and getting harassed by the fans.

They need a complete break from footy....

I wonder if there's a bit of them still coming down off the whole month of Septemeber and GF.  And not going cold turkey emotionally, just a few catch ups and reminisce?

Few options in Melb lockdown so why not meet somewhere familiar and have a few laughs.

Can you please explain Mordor? Haven't heard it before.

I'm with you and wondered what's all the fuss about Mordor and what does it relate to and which team? Obviously I'm not a Tolkien fan.

Courtesy of Wikipedia  "...In J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional world of Middle-earth, Mordor (pronounced [ˈmɔrdɔr]; from Sindarin Black Land and Quenya Land of Shadow) is the realm and base of the evil Sauron..."

This could be anywhere really - The hangar, Holden centre, Blundstone,  Waverley, ....

But Kardinia Park sits nicely, especially on game-day at the ground if your a Dees fan.

We are the away team for both QB and Anzac eve so no $$ there.

Need Essendon and Carlton home games at the MCG in the first six rounds preferably. (While their fans think they have a chance in 2022)

TBH Bulldogs won't deliver  a high number of away fans which is where you make the money. Also it will get its own Friday night status when played. Why would you share that TV coverage with a Thursday night game

Spot on. The smart decision commercially. Which pays the bills doesn't it?  Could guarantee a 90K crowd possibly with the above suggested teams.

This could equally happen if we or the dogs fall off a cliff to start next year. We will both get a harder draw next year based on where we finished.

I reckon have a big game first round. The players won't be worried about facing a good team round 1 and supporters shouldn't worry if we lose the first one. We are past that now

I understand why Pert pushed for this, as a way for the Dees to re-create the GF having missed being at Optus. But it won't be the same.

Get the timing and date for the match right to maximise viewing and attendances. More important

I think its still disrespectful to the Dogs though.

A solid game in the finals.  Fortune smiled on him in terms of team selection but after the personal year he had who would begrudge him that.

    Premiership player!!!!!

A highlight for Hibbo in 2021 was his handling of Dusty in the win over the Tigers.

Media pundits after that were calling for other teams to "find their Michael Hibberd.." to play on Dusty, as if the Dees had unlocked the secret.
