Some elite athletes just know when to flick on the switch come game day. Ed is obviously good at this and I think that's the extreme competitor that comes out of him. Chris Judd was exactly like this in his playing days.

Ed strikes me as someone who has the perfect balance in his life in being able to switch off footy and focus on his photography and also his private life.

I remember his interview with Ben Gibson he said he watches zero football because he's already consumed with it during the week with meetings and watching vision.

He's a very impressive athlete is Ed.

A fascinating interview  - when Ed was actually allowed to say something.

Max did a reasonable job of trying to keep Gus on topic, but gee Gus was annoying.

The most interesting and thoughtful player we have, and the session wasn't about him - it was Gus and his white noise.

And I agree with Chocco - Ed plays well and that contribution essential, with others, and we win.

Sparrow and pick 33 to Richmond? Too much

    Sure is.

Sparrow is a juniour Jack Viney but a bit more polish. Already 84 kg at only 183.

He jumps in the air with excitment when Max takes a mark in the prelim.

    Cultutre builder/maintainer.

Only unless for dire family circumstances. Otherwise he becomes part of a dynasty with the Dees.

An absolute gem of a player & clubman. Got himself back after delisting and was definitely the best small defender &team man for years. Has left nothing behind.

One of a number on whose shoulders the club's culture and reputation has been built.

    A lifetime legacy.

    Just a fantastic achievement.

Well done Goody and thank you for bringing us so much joy to us in what's been an extremely dark year for all.

    Great sentiments.

But also let's celebrate Troy Chaplin coming 2nd in the Assistants category. There's heaps more of these group and Chaplin can claim responsibility in part for developing the best team defence in the AFL and the best I have seen in 57 years.

    Note to Demonland :

Please forward the below excerpt from AFL official 'Rules of the Game' to the GF Umpires, from Section D, Game Rules and specifically when free kicks are awarded, just to refresh their memories, in case they think the Doggies have afree pass on ball transfer by hand.

Its against the rule guys to throw the ball. The last part in brackets and itallics is my suggested addendum to Gil for consideration by the AFL Rules Committee. Please pass this on also.

    "...18.12 OTHER

A field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against a Player who: (a) Throws the football; (b) hands the football to another Player;..." (Umpires must take note of this rule whilst officiating at any and all Western Bulldogs Football Club matches against any other duly incorporated AFL member club.)

Healy tips the Dees by 14 points and jack Viney as the Norm Smith winner

1 game in four weeks, when the reality is on grand final day it will be our third game in 5 weeks and their fourth.

Great summary Loges.  This is the big red herring.

Dogs by the same logic have played 1 game in 21 days. Again, this isn't true.

The agreed best conditioner in the AFL, Darren Burgess, will have addressed this,

and in the first few minutes on Saturday night , at least one commentator will say"..Gee the Dees are really on tonight..",  or "... this break seems to have had no effect on the Dees...", or "...Gee I think the longer break has actually helped the Dees..."

and finally "....gee don't the Dogs look tired, and keath has just re-done his hamstring...",  and "...Stefan Martin could sure have used a few more runs before the GF the way Max and Luke are running him around the park..."

or some other similiar bleedingly obvious cliches.

4 out of 4 picking us on Footy Class.

    Uh-oh...

    😄

Scary. And 3 out of 3 on On the Couch tipped Melb too.  All by 2 goals plus

    Norm Smith tips were:

    garry     Oliver

    Nick      Petracca

Brown   Max   (Brown showing off his Max Gawn beard from the Herald Sun)

    Healy   Jack Viney

On the Couch won the 2021 AFL Medai Assoc Best Football Program, which having access to it for the first time  across the season I completely agree with. Top show.

Totally agree, I hope Goodwin and Yze are right on to this aspect of the game !!

I'm confident they learnt their lesson from Round 19. Max had 56 hitouts and Dogs win clearances by 8 I think, maybe more.

The Dees coaching group will have this planned to deal with and have the talent to do it.

I keep saying that Keath has done his hammy TWICE since round 19.

He won't be able to push very hard on that leg.

As for Stef, he will basically be a decoy with English playing fwd to try and stretch our defence.

yes Keath is an interesting one as it seems to keeping popping up in commentary about his injury, being tested, may be ok etc. Brown's runnign will be a challenge.

Luke Jackson could well be a trump card for allowing the Dees to just keep running pressure on all day against Martin and/or English.

Dogs have a really big decision to make around the ruck. English will get monstered in the middle, Martin can't go with Gawn or Jackson around the ground, are they actually going to get enough out of Martin in the side? Gawn is on a whole different planet to Lycett.

i've been taking a good look at the Dogs recent form as well, and what i've noticed is in the past 6 weeks, the dogs are kicking very few, bread and butter goals. certainly not enough to score 100 points which they'll need to to win, they've scored 100 points twice, once against Port Adelaide who didn't show up, and had to just attack to try and make something out of the game. and once against a very tired Crows side.

on the other hand, our scoring is comfortably the best it's been all year, and we're winning it out of the middle a lot more, so we've improved to the point a melbourne game looks a bit different but we haven't actually lost our strength

Well summariesd I reckon. I have been looking at the Dees run of the last 6 games all for wins.

We've conceded an everagae of 8 goals a game. There is zero chance of the defence not playing their style of game.

One of the best coaches, Chris Scott, had 24 weeks to figure out how to stop May and Lever. Gross Fail. Even with May off. Its the system design that counts.

Goodes won it (shared it) as a ruckman in 2003. He won it later as a ruck-rover and should have won it again as a centre half forward. Just a sensational player. And Wanganeen won it the year after Wynd, don’t forget, as a back pocket.

Good point.  I looked at Goodes but felt he was a bit like Jim Stynes who created a ruck-type role for himslef but was playing more like a large midfield who could ruck.

Point still stands. The midfielders who now monopolise the award are all pretty good though.

As Henry Ford said  "..History is more or less bunk..."

Now if this statistical genius understood what he was quoting, and understood stats that are not necessarily basedon the same premise, condtions, etc are generally meaningless with regards to predictions.

This year is not like any other year let alone the last 8, due to the non-existent pre-finals bye and the pre- GF bye unique to 2021. This renders all recent history meaningless.

For the dim-witted as an example I will note as follows:

For the past 16 years (a good sample size) the QF winners go on to win their PF 28 times out of 32 or 88% of games.

Yet this year only 1 of the 2 QF winners won their PF, (the Dees) , thus a rate of 50% chance. Port Power had an 88% chance of winning, and given the travel of the Dogs and home ground advantage should have had probably a 95% chance - but they lost.

Due to the whole Bye discontinuity in the football universe.

Possibly why Wines showed such dissappointment tonight not making the GF

Get it Swamp boy? I'm not on Twitter so I suppose he'll have to just get this by osmosis or something.

100% should be voted on by the coaches or an independent panel like the AA team.
Umpires don’t know anything about the game beyond the rules. And even that’s questionable.

Edit: Tmac polling more votes than Lever, May and Salem combined tells you everything you need to know.

This is truly a shocking stat.

By his speech Wines would trade places with Oliver for a GF spot in a heartbeat.

Sad to read Steven May is just the 160th best player in the competition but I’m glad we have some others who can pick up the slack for him.

29 years since a non-midfielder won it. But I'd argue I would have S. May in our team ahead of any of the 30 or so midfield vote winners from other teams.

May will deliver a flag, the others just deliver lots of stats.

  16. In our last big showing in 2018 when Angus came 3rd, for interest I looked at Clarries performance that year.

13 Votes in 6 games, only 2 times 3 Votes.

Look how far he's come in this period. Fantastic effort and just rewards this week.

And now 29 years since a non-midfielder won it, and even that was a ruckman - scott wynd

Looking at recent history (Lever, Langdon and possibly May) they were all discussed as having been in the Dees sights for years prior to coming over.

This is starting to smell like we've been into Cerra for longer than we are letting on. If we can fit him in the salary cap it makes sense that our list management team has been involved for quite a while.

Absolutely Faulty. Given taylors track record, this isn't soem random thought bubble.

Fascinating to watch.  Also fascinating will be watching Cerra's presser outlining why he chose the Blues over the destination club (both performance and culturally), the Dees.   If he does.
