Which delisted player would you pick up before ND/PSD
Mad_Melbourne replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
It doesn't, but at the same time he is no standout, and there are players ahead of him in the draft and on the trade pile, so why bother picking someone who doesn't want to be at the club? -

I've heard that Jacobs will put down north as preferred club. Gram or Josh toy both good kicks and will add to our list. Weedon could be a look. -
Howe will play more of a midfield role, watts as a defender and fitz is still 10 kgs of being ready to play.
-
Sure we now have hogan, Clark, Pederson and dawes but this can't be a bad thing seeing as garland and rivers played up front all this year. Pederson is a depth player at worst, gysberts is a potential player who had no cardio, foot speed and poor disposal. The fact is gysberts is well behind a long list of developing midfielders and Pederson is in our top 3 key position players for next year. We can get 5-6 years out of Pederson by then hogan, Fitzpatrick, gawn shall be taking over, this is a long term plan rather than a quick fix!

We have many more midfielders pushing for afl level than talls, without Clark we had no forward line, at least now we have depth of players in all areas of the field. Strong backline depth, midfield yet to know half of them are still kids, now up forward we have a good line up. We don't need midfielders we have them and will take 2 more with Viney and then pick 4. Gysberts was not getting a game, all we need now is game time into our mids and we are on a positive push forwards.

Jones, Mckenzie, Sylvia, grimes, trengove, howe, blease, tapscott, byrnes, nichloson, viney, pick 4, bail, taggert. Possibly Morton, Evans, jetta, tynan. Players in our midfield I put ahead of gysberts, he doesn't even really provide us with much depth, he is trade bait and that's it. Gysberts might be a good midfielder in another team, but Pederson from kangas will be a walk up start, and will be a decent role player for us! I want to see players like Viney, taggert, whoever we take at pick 4 playing through our midfield and I can't see him breaking in ahead of many of them! But each to their own opinions, but he is no messiah, and he is definitely not star material currently

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DAVID RODAN
Mad_Melbourne replied to Demon Head's topic in Melbourne Demons
I guess we don't have many but I can't see a spot for all of blease, Byrnes, davey, tapscott, rodan, bail, Bennell, jetta. I guess I didn't put much thought into my post, but rather I can't see him regularly slotting into our midfield ahead of anyone so it's just a deep forward role for him, but I think he is brought across more as a leader to show the boys how to train. I wouldn't expect more than 10-14 games off him. -

Garry Lyon personally sought him out so Melbourne will feature in the 2013 grandfinal footy show. He can help teach the small forwards where to run and move to, but definitely won't play much this year -
If he wasn't in the top 5 players he would have been top 10 and definitely most improved. But I agree not much shown before that, but I have seen enough to be keen for us to get him on another 1-2 year deal, even if it's just like a Matthew Bate contract in which Neeld knows he has to delist a certain number of people and Dunn is one of them. Just seeing him out of the back 50 I think he used the ball well and played that role grimes was butchering a year ago, almost that quarterback, if he does do anything it is his ability to torp it well from kick outs which usually goes right over the opposition set ups!
-
There are a lot of Dunn haters, but he was probably in our top 5 players in the second half of the season, and was our second best disposer of the pill by foot coming out of our back line(to Strauss who played sub) in the second half of the season, warrants a new contract and I am not upset with that. He is a hard trainer and is competitive even if he is a bit stupid about how he goes about it.

Draft picks at selections 50+
Mad_Melbourne replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wouldn't be surprised if those later picks were traded out for Cameron Pederson, but also if we use them on rookie upgrades, definitely for nicho at least -
I was on footy trip in Echuca and I met the good old dc, who enlightened me on his whole story, I asked him about the meds and his answer was "yes they were prescription meds, and they were meant to last me a couple weeks, I took all 10 at once" no wonder he didn't wake. He was also pretty confident he would play afl next year in the brief conversation i had with him, and he shouted me a beer, 30 minutes later he was rolling under the Rojo nightclub pool table. So it's a big yes for me, as he did purchase me a beer so he passed the good bloke test
-
Hard to see how you couldn't see the potential in him this year, and I think he definitely benefited from the stint in the back line. I could probably slot potential in front of gun or star but I'm just going all out haha! I guess we just see different things, considering he is a fourth year key position player, his progress has been on the up, I see big things for him and I definitely see him having great potential. Like I said I can see him being a 200-250 gamer no worries, all Australian and if I'm really hopeful a premiership player
-
Currently I agree, but not sure for how long, J.Viney, N. Jones, J. Grimes, J. Mckenzie and even J. trengove, I could see him slowly being pushed out of our midfield! Optimism, or a few beers, either way I am starting to like the look of our list. Having said that watts is going to be a star, and is easily our best user of the ball, so give me Murphy from Carlton and they can have watts. Other than that no dice. Watts is going to be a gun, no matter where he plays, we have no doubt a 200-250 gamer no worries

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

Congratulations, you have honestly wrote some of the most stupid comments that I have ever read on the whole of the demon land forum! Opinions are opinions, but honestly I don't know what you have been watching! Sharrod Wellingham wanted to go home, he didn't take interviews from hawthorn, or Sydney either, yet both teams played in the grandfinal? Obviously FD from those clubs have no people skills either! Irritatingly stupid -
Are there players we are forgetting
Mad_Melbourne replied to Grimseyisgod's topic in Melbourne Demons
The rookies at Geelong three played games and now may get delisted, excess mids e.g Jordan Schroder Young players from those clubs who would be playing at mfc could benefit from a new home -
POLL: Watts v Naitanui ... Did we get it right or wrong?
Mad_Melbourne replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ivan Maric begs to differ but really those two were head and shoulders above naitanui and cox -
Sorry I was still talking about josh toy! Having said that I wouldn't be parting with a pick inside 20 for josh caddy.
-
I agree, but there will be other clubs still looking at Morton! And caddy said he was happy to stay at the club, the fact of the matter is, he is still a 20 year old, and has plenty of footy left in him, he is a good kick, and could be an outside player that we are looking for, the fact you said he is a weak person due to being homesick and that is a reflection on his footy was the biggest point that made you look like a tool. Each to their own, but I could see him slotting into our backline, and I think pick 30-50 would be a steal and I think misson and neeld could definitely help his development as a player.
-
You do realise that you are using his 2012 average where he played 5 games, 4 of them as a sub, and averaged less than 50 % game time for the year after he played 93% game time in one game against st kilda. Secondly he was rated around top 10 in his year, so offering up pick 30-50 would be a steal for it in a draft where the depth is pretty average. Thirdly he didn't get as good run this season as he told goldcoast earlier in the year that he was looking at moving back to Melbourne and he did not sign the contract offer from the goldcoast. I don't see how wanting to come home is the sign of a poor football player? And I don't get how you don't see value in a pick 30-50 instead of a player ranked 30th - 50th. How is it a waste of a pick?
-
I made no comment about his ability, but rather how stupid your post was about homesickness being similar to playing an away match. Secondly his dad passed away late in 2008. Thirdly I never said anything about giving up players or draft picks If we give up a draft pick it would be pick 30-50, 3rd round pick similar to Cheney! And personally I think it would be a steal, he just needs a proper go, and he could well add the disposal and outside possession we need off our half back line.
-
Your an idiot, homesickness is not based around one week of interstate travel but rather living away from family for 2 years, he only gets to see them every so often! A weekend away playing doesn't make him homesick. It's pretty hard to deal with your dads death while away from family basically 24/7

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
Mad_Melbourne replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
We shouldn't fall for draft tampering, but I really don't see gold coast nominating him anyway! But I think viney will be coming to the club with pick 20odd or after 2 seasons at gc -
6th in kicks, 2nd in handballs, 3rd in total disposals, 7th in marks, 3rd in total disposals and 4th in contested possesion out of 22 games, I'm pretty sure that is an indication of him going to poll well in our b n f and I can almost see him being top 5 this year, it's no surprise to me! Sure he hasn't had the best season, neither has the team, but he was consistent, and played every game and his defensive side of his game was top notch! Also Bartram is a terrific leader and a player who gives 100% at every contest, every pre season session and is pretty much the fittest player in our team, before he had to pack on the kgs, nothing wrong with him being in the leadership group! It shows the younger kids the traits that are valued, hard working and giving everything for the club

We will not pick up viney with pick number 3, I cannot see it happening! Not that he isn't a good player but the fact of the matter is he is not the second best player in the draft, so by gold coast nominating him they will effectively waste their first round pick on a player who will come back and play for Melbourne anyway! Il put it like this, if there is a lance Franklin, a Gary ablett and a Matthew pavlich in the draft, and we had Nathan jones as our father son pick, and the club before us said they will take Nathan jones ahead of one of those players, we will happily say fine, and take two of the others! Our recruiting hasn't been flash granted but there is always a time to start, and this year heres hoping we do!
