The quality of senior experience that has walked out of that joint in 5 years would make your hair turn white if you were a Bagger. Had they kept a lot of the players they let go, they would be close to a premiership caliber team.

Re the players leaving, Malthouse was so bad for Carlton, I still think Eddie was paying a retainer, you could make an argument that Malthouse has been worse for Carlton than Neeld was for us.

  2. The new Riewoldt is what Roos said, that is high praise.

About, Speed and Jesse, there is a NFL player who hits 34.5kmh/h and is a 109kg so Jesse's speed seems pretty feasible, and not a mistake with the GPS, (it is all about how it is built), they can be made accurate to under 30cm from what i understand in a civilian context. They use chips as well (an accelerometer and magnetometer), and not just a GPS, which are way more accurate for judging the speed and direction. So it wouldn't/doesn't matter if he was doing circles, although I do prefer a straight up lead...

Between him and Tom, I want teams crushed. (Loved the way Robbo asked Lewis if we had been told to kill teams.)

Got to give Goodwin some credit here.

I'm going to hazard a guess that Goody knew he had the talent and that his poor couple  of seasons had between the ears reasons.

It's nice to finally start to be on the right side of some of these recruiting deals.

Good call re credit to Goodwin, I'll put my hand up and say i thought he was playing favorites, so he definitely gets the kudos for how Jake is going now. Well done coach!

He was no good when the game was up for grabs. Piled it on a bit when the head had gone out of it for sure.

    No change you'd think

I thought the same, but my brother (who is a much better footy player) said Hannan is in for defensive pressure. For me it's his disposal but not his effort, much like Tyson, Hunt, ANB (who had a day out).

Did you have a good day.?

I sure did,and it only took me 10 min to get there,!

You deserved it, coming down from PNG,!

Many thanks, yes it was awesome. Not even myki or food prices could kill the buzz.

Loved the pregame, they were up from the warm up (staggered me they played a mini game warm up) bouncing around 5 times the energy of Carlton.

Best bit without doubt though was standing next to the interchange in the last qtr, watching the players swapping in sets of 3, looking like hockey players going out to smash someone, they looked fierce amd lethal. Loved that our full strength side looks so dangerous.

Disagree.  As usualI thought the umpires did apoor job but at 26-20 free kicks you can say they favoured us.

Also that free to Fritsch was there.  The holding of his jumper stopped him jumping for the ball.

Yes the free was there, not arguing that, but jeez that was a brave dip by the Carlton fella, my comment was in the spirit of 'the castle' it is the vibe of the thing... if it had been close i'd be whistling a different tune.

  7. 1st Win I have seen live since 2006 (I am officially not a jinx and can contemplate a return trip to Australia just before the racing carnival. Am trying to remember the last 100 point win.

Tom McDonald, several goal assists to go with 4, BOG for mine. that running back with the flight of the ball and putting his right hand out to juggle and gather the ball was the prettiest piece of footy all day.

Saw Melksham at Jerry's milkbar this morning in Elwood, with his wife and kid, so left him alone, have always thought they made a good breakfast, worked for him.

Oliver need a TV to see his work, I understand why the umps have no clue whether he throws, impossible to see sometimes he is so quick, his hands are up there with Muhammad Ali for speed.

Lever close to BOG, best game I think I've seen him play, getting better every week.

    Smith got better and better.

Lewis is putting together his best set of games for Melbourne at the moment (sad to say, but I think he's playing like he might finish this year, he is really putting it all out there)

Vince needs a spell, couple of times when I thought he could chase and didn't, and he is under the microscope every time by the umps.

Hannan - I guess his defensive pressure is what justifies his place, he's not in for disposal efficiency.

    Gawn, did some great things.

We had the crowd I thought, for a Carlton home game, was seeing far more red. Loved the team game, they are always looking for the goal assist.

We were lucky with umps, got the rub of the green. I would have felt stiff as a blues fan, especially the free for holding the man when the Carlton player ran back with the flight of the ball (mark of the year that wasnt) super brave. Speaking of which , the umps seem to make it quite tough to call a mark a mark.

  8. So the best in my time - period late 70's to Now, (some of the older stuff definitely bears my fathers' influence from when I was a little tacker)

I have linked all the names, MFC has always had the best rucks, Sean O'Dwyer unlucky to miss, and was very torn by Jurrah but he didn't do enough for long enough. Gerard H i couldn't really remember playing, and I tried to pick players who had done it at their besy while at MFC. I have to say FB was the hardest, Jamie Shanahan was a contender, and was tempted to move Wight or Neitz to FB to make room for some of the excellent back pockets we have had. Vince got in for his first season.

It gives me hope that I could see another 6 of our current players making it onto my 'best in my time team'.

  9. Now I hope this becomes true, but I reckon Ben has got ahead of himself...

"Gawn inherited the No.37 jumper from Stynes, who presented him with his jumper after being drafted, and switched to the No.11 at the end of the 2014 season in honour of his mentor.

The pair would have to be regarded as two of Melbourne's greatest ever ruckmen. - Ben Guthrie"

Donald Cordner is ahead of Max for the moment, in my strong opinion.

I love Jetta and the above more than anyone but I'm guessing you forgot Viney.

No i was very conflicted about which 5 go 1st, i deeply love Viney, he is heart and soul, this was purely on which names go one the board with permanent marker.Same with Hoges, but i think these 5 are the toughest to replace. If Jones wasnt there then Viney, but for me Jones is still the senior of the two...

I'm guessing Nev would laugh in your face if you said he was roughed up and not paid fees because of his race. He'd be laughing at you.

Happy for him to laugh, was asking a question, not going to apologize for it, as I said previously, if I'm wrong I'll withdraw, just didn't think decisions his way have been fair and wanted to know if anyone else thought he was short changed and why?

What the hell has Nev being indigenous got to do with him (apparently) not receiving protection from umpires?  “Black fella” WTF?

I was at a loss to explain why Nev had not been receiving a fair go from the umps, and was wondering of it was based on unconscious bias re race. The MRP has now made it clear I was wrong and everything is hunky dory...  Also for all of you having a go for using the term 'black fella' let me paste the words from one of my favourite Aussie  groups the Warumpi Band.

    Black fella, white fella
It doesn't matter, what your color
As long as you, a true fella
As long as you, a real fella

All the people, of different races
With different lives, in different places
It doesn't matter, what your name is
We got to have, lots of changes
We need more brothers, if we're to make it
We need more sisters, if we're to save it
Are you the one that's gonna stand up and be counted
Are you the one who's gonna be there when we shout it
Are you the one that's always ready with a helping hand
Are you the one who understands these family plans
    Black fella, white fella
    Yellow fella, any fella
It doesn't matter, what your color
As long as you, a true fella
All the people, of different races
With different lives, in different places
    It doesn't
