I wonder if McCartin was next on our list in the 2014 draft..? If memory serves correctly the media assumed he was, but I’ve also heard DeGoey was being looked at.

Reading through 2014 I still think we picked the eyes out of the draft, I am a believer in the no DH approach.

Sorry. Not particularly convinced. Seems some generic ideas worked. More some ingenuity of some players.

Im not really enamored by the Goody Game.

It might indeed be there..it might

by generic, what do you mean? i dont think there are too many new ideas in game plans, so you could throw generic around the same way we talk about cliches, like 'one week at a time', i think that the team executed a different set of instructions is evidence that he can coach? what do you want to be different? (for mine i want to see some more man on man occasionally when we need to arrest a run against)

  3. So we also need to give Goodwin credit, was clearly a different game plan that worked, using a small forward structure.

also just arrived back in Rome from Port Moresby yesterday, woke up to watch it with my beautiful French partner who helped celebrate... perfect way to watch the team song

    many big smiles beating North

  4. I am amazed at how much people read into Goodwin's expression, it is like people watched a season of 'Lie to Me' and are now emotinal experts, will have to watch it again myself, a handy skill to have...

  5. Hodge, almost won the game for them from his wheelchair. Bloke is a better General than Monash.

ANB was ok, Fritsch is super clean, i actually thought it was a spear takle/suplex on him that was mega dangerous and reportable, he kept the arm around his throat when he wàs upside down.

Wish Stef Martin still played for us. So love Gawn.

    Vince great role on Zorko.

Had a heart attack but personally giving a pass becaise of conditions and travel.

Between Melksham and Bugg being unlucky we didnt kill them dead sooner, miss too many always brings the other team into the game.

Pederson reliable but we really need Tom. We miss the blond...

Hunt Lewis Jetta Salem Hibberd average or worse. Jetta really had his hands full wasnt bad just didnt win Christensen was on.

Frost needs to be in to free up Lever.

i said to my brother Omac was best defender yesterdy, we should be doing back flips the kid has come good-this is a huge upside - we have our own home grown big defender, took forever but now we have a defender coming into their prime when for the ast 30 years we have had to buy them (excpet for Chip) as they approach retirement (Rivers and Judy were mid size for mine)

  6. Doesn't reducing concussion involve two parts? Reducing the transfer of energy to the head and also allowing the head to decelrate at a slower tempo? I can see a helmet doing the first - the second seems a tougher ask. I went and googled what the latest tech is and wasn't particularly impressed with the NFL helmets. Basically the helmets have to (i think) suffer significant deformation to achieve more gentle (relatively) deceleration. Soft helmets seem the way to go.

Just looks a natural forward doesn't he? A lot of similarities to Josh Kennedy in terms of style.

A poor man's Nick Riewoldt, (in fact i thought he played nick well) with his big bodied running. Not the same level at marking, but definetly unflappable in terms of temprement, maybe a bit more menace) Him moving forward was end of Jack (who I love). If he kicks 40 this year then i reckon we'll have 14 wins in the bag.

Thing about ANB is he doesn't have anything stamped on him to say what kind of player he is. No neon light like there is on Trac, "beast with X factor", or Oliver "extractor par excellence", or Hunt "dasher".

He looks pretty nondescript as a player. But there he is ... just getting in the right spot again and again, doing handy things and kicking goals. He just keeps doing it. West Coast had an entire team of ANBs in the 90's. (and one Jakovich)

You think "what is his best position?" Doesn't really matter ... the kid can play football. Just get him out on the park. Compare with "athlete" types like Majak Daw or Mason Cox who do the occasional good thing but mostly just look lost.

'Running Machine' wouldn't be out of place, just saying, and agree with the thrust of your post.

Having been a Demons supporter since switching from Carlton under peer pressure from taunting school mates in 1964. I have been living with hope every year that the next year will be the one.

50+ years on and it hasn't changed, however this upcoming season has me feeling more than ever that we can take the next step and really give it a good shake, but I am torn between putting all my emotional energy into a team that has ripped my heart out,or giving it another shot. I guess it's nature's way of  warning my body.

Cassandra? Just teasing, but is there any chance there is no 'Norm Smith curse' but you swapping from the Blues...?

Reading about the Tigers focus on mindfulness on the weekend, will the Demons take this on, as poor starts and switching off during games, seemed to be our greatest issues this year.

These various coping strategies, should come as part of the membership pack.

There was a brief brief period during the 2014 trade week where we picked up Garlett early, Mitch Clark wasn't yet definitively out the door, Jurrah was apparently sniffing around for a return, and Petracca was increasingly looking like he'd be ours. I had dared to imagine a forward line of the following sort and have never quite gotten over what could have been: An absolute excitement machine.

    Garlett   Hogan   Jurrah

    Howe    Clark    Petracca

    * with Watts and Dawes in reserve.

I'm really not sure how you would go about matching up on that lot.

*Snap I felt the same, we have teased many times to have an unstoppable forward line. Lyon Schwarz Farmer Neitz looked like it would blow teams off the park as well.

  12. B: Jetta O.Mac Hibberd

    HB: Lewis Lever Hunt

    C: Brayshaw Oliver Jones

    HF: Petracca Hogan Nibbler

    Fwd: Garlett T.Mac Pederson

    Ruck: Gawn Tyson Viney

    Int: Salem, Melksham, Frost, Hannan

    Emerg: Vince, VDB, Harmes, Balic

Updated for the current trade period - serious question - Can Pederson play defence? I don't like any of Lever/Frost/Omac at full back?

Lastly a left field option, but putting it out there - Petracca as a defender - could he/would he cope? The reason I suggest it, is he doesn't have the tank-he is not ready for a mid role, and with Hannan, Harmes, ANB, VDB, Melksham, and now Balic, all being forward lurkers we have enough forwards. But they are undersized for a key defender role, (and Lewis Vince Jones, Wagner as well for that matter). I want more than the one skilled, big key back we have in Lever, and which was why I wanted Garland to keep playing. As much as I dislike Rance, (really really, I think of him as a Michael Long type cheat who should be called out and not celebrated), he is a useful gorilla for Richmond. I think Petracca is the only one strong enough and skilled enough to learn/play a key backman role -  that is on our list at the moment. I think O.mac and Frost are honest players, but they are not gorillas yet, and even as they mature into gorillas, as till now am not sold on their ball skills or decision making.

  13. B: Jetta Garland Hibberd

    HB: Lewis Lever Hunt

    C: Brayshaw Oliver Jones

    HF: Petracca Hogan Nibbler

    Fwd: Garlett T.Mac Watts

    Ruck: Gawn Tyson Viney

    Int: Salem, Melksham, Frost, Pederson

Emerg: O.Mac, Vince, Hannan, VDB, Harmes

Garland has more footy sense than O.Mac and Frost put together and is a great one on one defender.

Hogan at CHF can run at the ball, I think he is more of a Carey than a Plugger and T.Mac just knows how to piut them through.

Vince has lost a step, just when I thought he had a secret fountain of youth, he is depth now.

Pederson needed for his marking ability around the ground, we were bad in the air.

Until Watts is gone he is in my best 22

Frost to give Garland a spell

Salem as a defender and Melksham subbing Neal-Bullen (either could start to be honest)
