  1. Saw nothing of the game yesterday only going a paper review and statts etc.

I Hate to raise the subject but it would appear JW had another poor one!

From stats only Bennel had less.

Would appear he is going to be played every week no matter how he goes.

However interested in comment on his game?

  2. I am really disappointed with melbourne this week. Firstly they make our captain retire stating we have younger players to come thorugh then at selection they drop Bail and think its a good idea to bring in Newton. Why would you do that. Newton isnt the future. He wont be there in 2 years. Bate will be playing for us for the next few years.Even bring in Miller. Bail was good last week, yeah he did some silly things but he has been really good the past few weeks.

I thought Paul Johnson was pretty good for us last week. He actually taps it to our midfield which Jamar sometimes do.

In the week Dean Bailey made a statement for the club he has made a horrible decision in selecting Newton. We know Newton will still be on the rookie list next year becasue some dimbat thought it would be great to put him and meesen back on there.

Sorry just frustrated with Newton being selected. He is not the future!!!!

Dees, Newton will not be on the rookie list next year, he will either be gone or given a 1 year contract.

I believe they are taking insurance at present.

The AFL may bring in a 3 interchange and 1 injury player for the inter change.

If that happens a lot of "experts" are saving that teams will probally not have a second ruckman.

Instead they will go with a pinch hitter ruckman / forward.

I have seen Newton player in this role a number of times this year for Casey.

He has done a good job, admittedly at VFL level.

They may be trying him in the role this week to see how he does.

If this type of role became necessary he may be the only player we have who could do it.

We tried a number of players in this type of role earlier in the year without success so why not.

It is after all experiment time for us now in the last two games.

  3. Do not worry, we won a number of games while Junior was injured.

I agree with you "Redsoxman" we did and we all know he had a best one more year.

He has been a great player for the MFC but he was never going to be around when we next play in a GF.

If the Kids revolution is to work they have to take up the slack for better or worse.

I seen a lot of guys retire and thought "how are we ever going to replace him" and guess what somone else develops.

If our players are good enough they will cover his loss.

  4. Bail, Johnson and Bate are the emergencies.

So Bail is the stiff one as he will have to go to Adelaide and will not play in either team!

Surprised they put Maloney straight in after 4 weeks out.

However perhaps they are foxing with Maloney!

  5. Don't see Bate as a preimership player.

You need to look a little harder, Bate is a good half forward.

People have wanted him to be a KPF which I do not think he is however if he were playing in a side were he is the third or fourth best forward

he would get the third or fourth best defender.

under those conditions you would not be expecting him to win the game every week and he woul;d look much better.

  6. Max of 16 uncontracted. Max 1 per club.

It should be noted this is a maximum, not also a minimum.

GC officials have mentioned in multiple interviews that they are only looking at taking 8 uncontracted players this year. A lot of people seem to consider the GC situation in terms of 'who will they take' rather than 'will they take someone'. This is an error.

On topic, great to have these two signed up. Particularly Watts for 3. I like it.

Yes you are correct it is 16, this is a rare event I was "wrong"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Just joking

  7. Are you absolutely sure on this?

I know that this is explicitly stated for GWS (over 2 years starting next year) but I couldn't see it stated for GC17, just a max of 16 uncontracted players

    Do you have a reference?

My understanding is that GC can take up 12 uncontracted players this year. the max. is one per club.

Eg. they cannot take anymore players from Adelaide

This rule applies GWS next year.

  8. I am told by AFL Vic. that the following applies to MFC players playing for Casey in the finals.

    (1) Casey can have a max. of 12 MFC listed players

    (2) A MFC player must have played a Min. of 7 games for Casey

There are different rules for the likes of Collingwood

and a team that has its AFL team and VFL associate playing finals in both competitions.

So PJ may need to play the last game for Casey to qualify for finals, does anyone know how many he has played for Casey?

He played quite a few but no idea how many!

  9. Was Strauss perhaps dropped because he is already eligible for finals, and we need to try and squeeze as many players into the side who are yet to qualify?

For example how many more games do Blease and Tapscott have to play before they are eligible? It would be great for them to play finals and get some more match fitness before pre-season starts.

    Just a thought.

Jaded can you tell me what the rules are re MFC players playing in Finals for Casey?

    Hope you can help!

  10. Yes, but we have quite a few out with injuries ... Davey, Grimes, Joel Mac are important players for us, then add the likes of a possible Moloney, not to mention Petterd, Gysberts, perhaps Tapscott (would have been great first game, home crowd etc.) etc. Big ask IMHO.

Interesting comments here re Miller, but same could surely be said re Maric. 5 inclusions, and he's not one of them?

He has a contract for next year so where that leaves him I am not sure.

If I were him I would be looking for trade at year end as it would appear we have stamped Maric's papers as not good enough!

  11. I do not think Maloney will play after being out for 4 weeks, back via Casey!

That means two must come out of the remaining six.

Either Johnson or Newton plays as second ruckman, my guess Newton why name him otherwise! this may be his last hurrah!

and he has been playing this role very well at Casey.

    That leaves 1 more from

    Bail

    Mckenzie

    Morton

    Bate

No forward was dropped so I think Bate misses.

    Interchange is then

    Bail

    Mckenzie

    Morton

    Newton.

  12. He was Pick 51 in the 1996 rookie draft.

Says it all really. A true champion for the MFC and was always a favorite of mine. He's left a huge hole to fill. What a shame his last game will be the twilight fixture. Will probably mean I won't make his last game.

Just on that draft, three players we recruited went on to play over 200 games. Robertson, McDonald and Bassett. Daniel Ward also came to us out of that draft playing 130-odd games.

    Junior was an absolute gem.

What more is there to say. A great of the MFC.

I will miss you no. 23

An excellent example of the theory that there are great player gems out there that are not picked in the main draft.

You do not have to be pick no. 1 to be a 250 game player and captain of your side.

  13. Yeah ditto KC

and that goes for the while season inc live game updates and Casey news

Can anyone tell me the requirments for playing finals in the VFL.

i.e. How many MFC players can play ( I think the max is 12 )and is there any limits on how many AFL games excludes you from playing in finals at VFL level etc.

    Hope someone can help?

  14. Indeed. If we were finishing top 4 that list would look better (although not much better).

I have looked at it again Hightower and I struggling to find one player who would not be on it.

Who do you think is out to pasture and would not be if we were playing finals?

  15. We wont need more mids ( not as a priority) we have them..they are either in need of repair or simply more games. They'll be ok and the in-50's will improve as a result of maturing.

Its that nagging need for a strong ready to go bod down the sharp end. We may have a few to chose from in 1-3 years as internally grown come on...but a fixit for next year would be handy.

Any more smokeys in VFL/SANFL/WAFL etc ? as unliley to get much trading or drafting ( conventional ) for a while

yes an OX clone would be rather nice :)

Plus a decent set of knees!

  16. Interesting to compare the number of players that are out for the "Season" at each club.

    Collingwood 1

    Feemantle 1

    Hawthorn 1

    Bulldogs 2

    Sydney 2

    St. Kilda 3

    Geelong 3

    Kangaroos 6

    West Coast 7

    Adelaide 8

    Port 8

    Brisbane 9

    Essendon 9

    Demons 9

IMO You could form a view that the lower the number of serious injuries the higher you are on the ladder!

  17. what is the deal with the latest MFC player to leave for GC17 re Jones? is there any substance to this? I must admit i have been really picky towards his performance this year, only because I know he is such a 'hard nut' player that just goes in 'guns a blazin', and we all know how good he can & will be. It would be terrible to lose a hard player like him...

Should this be thrown into the Petterd & Bruce basket??? they were supposedly leaving to GC17...

BTW, my prediction on them in 2011 is either bottom 4 or just make it to 13.... they are a nothing side in the VFL...

Tasmania should have been the new side. NOT GS or GWS.

You know what Sturmmann I do not think any one has any idea if GS has approached any Melbourne Player.

It is all just fanatsy, there may well have been approaches to a couple of players but only the managers would know

and no manager worth his salt would be letting on at this stage.

Find it very hard to believe they would be interested in Cameron Bruce he is in the twilight of his career!

But how would I or anyone else know!

Just wait a month and we will know.

  18. So Brighton Grammar is known for its softness is it? Fairly provocative comment I would have thought....

So you would advise anyone who wants their kid to turn out soft, to fork out a bit of extra money and send him off to Brighton, would you?

Never seen such much drivel on Demonland. "Softness" what a load of old cobblers.

From where I sit no one who gets to be No.1 draft pick is soft.

For that matter I doubt there is anyone who plays AFl that is soft.

Some players are in and under types and others use their skill and finese.

Go to a AFL / VFL game and stand on the fence, see, hear, and feel the physical nature of the game close up.

Then tell me Watts or any one else is "SOFT".

    I do not believe it.

Watts might be many things but SOFT! NO

  19. I was just about to add that ID. Fitzy was probably break even with Jacobs.

He is only 19 though and I can see the reasons why a call to bring in a Jacobs has merit. I really like the sound of a Fitzy/Russian, ruck/forward combo.

I have seen him a few times this year for Casey and I think he has a future.

For a young ruckman he is a fairly good mark and kick.

I saw him the day Casey got belted by Williamstown and he was one of the few that I thought earned his spot.

Early Days but he is the best of our ruckman after Jamar.

I have not seen another young ruckman at VFL level that is better than him.

  20. I don't buy the basketball argument

Plenty of kids his age have no problem switching from playing "soft" in basketball and "hard" in football. He's not some long-term basketballer who has just switched to football

Different definitions of soft is just semantics, if he plays "soft" he plays "soft" - period. I don't know the reason for it but I sure hope he grows out of it. His lack of aggression and urgency is worrying, I hope its just a confidence thing

I agree Daisycutter the Basketball think is cobblers.

I seriously doubt he will ever be a "Barry Hall " type.

That does not mean he will not be a good player it just means he may never be a crash and Bash player.

I think his best chance is strength, speed, finese and a red hot go.

If he does that I will be happy, 40 -50 goals a year makes you pretty good.

A CPF who can achieve that will take us close to the big one!

  21. I just don't think the Watts bashers recognise a young gun even when he's a 6'6" blonde .

He can read the play , run like a gazelle , deliver lace out passes to forwards and has more ball handling skill than Bate and Miller put together .

One of the previous posters refered to him as soft . He's only 18-19 and in his young mind I'll bet it hasn't really dawned on him that he's as big as he is . Up until his last pre-season he hadn't lifted anything heavier than his schoolbag and then shows up at training to be ragdolled by Chip , Miller , Warnock and co. but when he gets more confidence that will come with both weights and games played he will be one of the premier players in the competion . He won't see himself as a junior member of the club , he'll start looking goalward more often instead of the team orientated dish off , he'll realise that when he goes in hard he won't get killed and opposition sides will struggle to handle his height , speed and power . When it finally all comes together , Watts in full flight will truly be a sight to behold .

I feel that other clubs supporters realise this and so are praying to god he fails , which he won't .

I really really really hope you are right 'fork em"!
