  1. I have seen him twice this year one occasion was the slaughter at Williamstown.

In that game he was one of the few things that gave me any joy.

I think the kid is a goer.

He looks better to me in his first year at Casey than Watts did.

So take that for what it is worth.

Is the glass half full or half empty?

In this case I think it is definately Half full!

  2. Can't find who mentioned him earlier but if Melbourne were to go after a young key position forward I'd be more then happy to target Aaron Cornelius from Brisbane.

The young Tassie kid is a good mark and a pretty good shot at goal. Has only played the 3 senior games and is obviously behind Fevola and Brown for the next 3 years.

He was taken pick 57 is the 2008 draft I think it was mentioned so wouldn't cost the world but Brisbane may ask for someone like Bail or Maric in return as they lack pace through the midfield.

Sorry to whoever mentioned Cornelius earlier but I couldn't find your post to quote.

I would give them Maric in a heart beat!

  3. The real question should be:

Is Liam Jurrah better than Robbie Flower in his prime?

The answer is of course "yes".

How old are you "Calabreseboy"? Did you see Robert Flower play?

Robert Flower is in the top half dozen players Melbourne has produces in the last Forty years.

Robert finished third one year in the brownlow and scored Melbournes highest votes in the Brownlow a number of times.

Jurrah has played a hand full of games.

He may well end up the best player we have ever had however he has a few years and a hell of a lot of

    great games to go.

He is not within a bulls roar of RF right now

  4. BARTRAM IS NOT GETTING DROPPED.

    But bring in Bail!

I agree with you "Jaded" but who do you leave out?

Perhaps Bennel however the powers see more in him than I do.

    Maybe Jones?

I also think Scully's form has dropped off since the break but again he seems safer than Watts

so I cannot see who would go out.

We should also remember than Subiaco is a big ground where you need plenty of run so it is hard to see

players like Bennell and Scully being dropped.

Glad I don't have to work it out. Too hard!

  5. This is also a very valid point.

As per my previous post he needs to get fit. real fit. Then be judged on his performances with that pre season fitness base under him.

MFC will give him every opportunity as long as he takes them.

I agree that if 2011 doesn't go well for him (by injury or form) then they may take a long hard look at his position however it get's back to Roost It's point that the club will need to make a decision on what is more potentially valuable, Aussie or a late pick???

If you cannot get on the park because of injury then almost anyone who can gives you more value.

I will repeat "I do not want him delisted"

I hope he has a blinder in 2011

  6. It's nothing to do with emotion. Wonaeamirri's main problem was a recurring hamstring injury. The club identified an issue with his tackling technique and have rectified it. He should now be able to string some games together, complete a full preseason and be right to go. Being that the club clearly rate him he will be given at least 2 more years to prove his body is capable. Remember they didn't delist Rivers and his injuries were more serious than Wonaeamirri's.

There is a couple of big differences in your arguement.

Rivers played a lot more good games than Wona has before injury hit them both.

I may be wrong but I do not remember Wona winning the "rising star" of the year award that Rivers won.

I do not want him "gone" but I will go back to your comment that he will not be delisted.

If he does not put in a good year in 2011 he will be delisted!

  7. In yesterday's side the likes of Cheney, Bartram, MacDonald, Bruce, Johnson, Dunn, possibly Jones and Rivers will be replaced by the likes of Grimes, Morton, Petterd, hopefully Strauss, Bail, Wonaeamirri, Bennell, Jetta, Blease, Tapscott and hopefully Maric. Hughes will be delisted at year's end.

As for Wonaeamirri, there is no way, not a chance that he will be delisted this year or next. It just won't happen.

I think you need to get your emotions out of the equation.

There is not a player on the list that cannot be delisted if they are constantly injured and cannot get on the park.

Every year 4 - 6 players have to be delisted.

If he has a contract for next year and is either injured or not good enough to play in the AFL side in 2011 he will be delisted.

If he does not earn his spot on the list he will make way for some one else

    Sad but true.

    Why "won't it happen" ???

  8. Wona needs one thing.

    A PRE-SEASON.

    Actually,

    AN INJURY FREE INTENSE PRE-SEASON.

If he can train the house down then i have no doubt he will be back to his pre-injury best, and that form would have him in our team for sure. I think playing with LJ is a big motivator for him so hopefully that will also drive him.

I think by him playing at Casey he too is learning that past performance will not guarantee his place and he will have to work. All good motivation for him to come back next year fitter and stronger than ever.

You are correct he really needs to be injury free.

If he has a contract for next year he is very lucky because I think without that he might be for the high jump.

Unfortunately I think he is injury prone. There are some players who are prevented from achieving there potential by a body that just does not seem to able to take the load.

This is his third year for a handful of games and how many of those games has he played very well, from my memory 2 - 3 which are three seasons back.

I have seen him three times at Casey this year and his two games at AFL level via TV.

I have to say he has been ordinary, unfortuately his time may have gone past and we now have a number of players vying for his spot.

4 -5 players have to go at the end of the year. IMO he would probably be one of them.

If he has a contract for 2011 that is his year to shine or it is all over with the MFC.

  9. Agree to disagree.

In my opinion Rivers is not fast enough, big enough or strong enough to be a key backman. If we are going to pick a player to play loose in defense, pick someone that is a good kick and has speed.

I'll bring this thread back up in twelve months and see if I need to make an appology, or have been proved correct.

My God "Thomo" my memory will struggle with your plan. I hope in 12 months time we are in the eight and I will not care that you were right or wrong.

  10. Bennell has amazing talent and one day he will put it all together. He drifts out of the game for long periods and should try to present more; he has incredible hands and picks the ball up off the half volley as good as anyone I've seen.

Sorry RobbieF I thought Bennel was one of our poorer players today, I hope you are right but just does not finish off well enough for me.

I think he will struggle to make the trip to WA.

I have not been one of Watts greatest fans however I thought he earned his spot today

and he is definately playing a lot better than a month ago. And who would take his place as a tall forward?

  11. Bartram is a possibility to be cut, IMO. Cheyney will want to improve his disposal too.

I think he has played every game this year no chance that he will be dropped.

I have been to a few Casey games I cannot see a future in:

Maric - Been average in the games I have seen and we have a number of his type who are a lot better.

Wona - as much as it grieves me to say he is injury prone just does not stay on the park

how many good games as he actually played?

Meeson - always injured and even when he is healty has shown little at Adelaide or Melb.

Spencer - like Wona is injury prone some guys just never seem to be able to stay on the park.

Healey - IMO not good enough.

Mcnamara - another one who is injury prone, we have hardly seen him however I think he is mortal danger

Bell -plays well for Casey but he is obviously mark as expendable

  12. Bruce is having a good year. Marked very harshly by some, but for me would be top 5 in the Bluey (Green, Jamar, Frawley, McDonald before injury). If 21 other players worked as hard as Bruce we would be playing finals.

We are in total agreement on this one Thomo.

  13. Don't know why but there are few Bruce haters and Rivers haters on Demonland.

I can never quite work out why.

Neither will ever win the Brownlow however they both play a lot more good games than bad ones.

Rivers had a couple of clangers but well and truely earned his spot and Bruce was in the top 5.

Not sure what they have to do to be excepted by some people on here!

  14. Rivers was bad today, but he played exactly as I have come to expect.

He has poor skills, is slow and can not play body on body. When he won the RS award he was the 4th tall defender playing loose in defense, the easiest position on the field. Combine that this a mature body, and he had a good season. 5 years of injuries and many seem to think that he was a superstar, but he was exactly the player he is today.

What he does have is great courage and talk from the club is that he is a good leader. But is that enough to be on an AFL list?

I believe by middle of next year when we are talking about who to delist, we will be wondering how the hell he got two years, like we did with Newton and Meeson last year.

Thomo I don't think you can see the forest for the trees!

I specifically watched him today as he is regularly canned by a few on Demonland.

He had a major clanger in the first couple of minutes and then IMO he played well.

And he has just been given a new 2 year contract till the end of 2012.

Obviously the management think he is a valued player and so do I.

    Get of his back!

  15. Exactly.

What matters is that our supporters think we are a great club, and continue to support us.

I've never seen us be a really successful club but it hasn't prevented me from going every week and financially supporting the club every year. I couldn't continue to do that if I didn't believe our club was great.

To some that may be dellusional, but I'd rather live my life enjoying what I have than complaining about what I don't and being sour and angry, which is why Jim is a great representation of our club. He continues to fight the good fight even when things are against him. As supporters, I hope we all do the same.

You have covered my feelings exactely "Jayed" Could not have said it better.

  16. I am 61 years young and have followed the demons ever since I can remember, I may be biased but I have never seen any one at any club like

    Jim Stynes!

He is amazing how the guy can keep getting up off the carpet all the times amazes me.

I am not fush with cash but how can you not put your hand in your pocket after seeing him last night.

Cannot think of any words to describe him

    Amazing!

  17. A little bit off topic, but according to club twitter we WILL be wearing our traditional strip this weekend against the bummers.

Does anyone know what the bummers will be wearing?

If it's that wider red sash one, that would hardly reduce the clash.

This whole clash inconsistency does my head in.

Good morning Daisy cutter you are dead right about the inconsistances in the AFL policy.

Not sure if they will be wearing the wider red strip or not, IMO it makes little difference.

Essendon should be wearing a white jumper on sunday.

It is simply a power thing.

Essendon, Collingwood and Richmond have the power and are using it. We do not.

We can debate it until the cows come home and I would prefer other options.

Get used to white nothing else will happen!

  18. But do you think we would need a clash jumper against GC? I haven't really seen GC's final jumper.

That previous blue was a fairly "electric" blue which would be very easy to pickup and look good on TV.

After NM's effort I wouldn't like the blue to get too pale!

Maybe something like "Palace Blue" PANTONE 18-4043 ???

BTW is there an official list of clubs that the AFL deem we clash with?

Daisycutter What justification would we have for a light blue colour?

At the risk of offending you "get over it" the jumper will be White with red and blue trim.

That is it all over all done!

When we win the premiership you won't care what jumper they are wearing, well I won,t

  19. I have noticed that when we list an extended bench it is often the last three players listed that drop out.

That being the case this week Jetta, Maric and Jurrah will be playing for Casey.

I have seen Jurrah play in is two come back games and will be very surprised if he gets the nod for Sunday.

He still looks under done at VFL level let alone at the top level but who knows stranger thinks have happened.

Interesting that we are considering giving PJ another run I thought his papers were stamped

but he is the only other option as a second ruckman with Spencer injured.

Please don't mention Newton he is on the rookie list and cannot play even though I would like to give him a go.

  20. Pay your regards to Twitter updates!!! It seems that the tweet (is that what they're called) the weekend after Ricks injury was THE ONLY reliable source.

Remember this is also about Garland and Riv!! Great work by the club to have signed up the four key defenders of the last month, Chip, Col, Riv and Ricky.....

To all the Rivers haters...you state he isn't in the best 22? He has missed how many games so far? I would suggest that in the coaches eyes he is well and truly entrenched in the best 22 currently. I agree with some sentiments that he is struggling in some area's currently but he is a valuable asset for our club. Not sure that he would command a high draft pick but the majority of clubs would come for him if let go.

He deserves a 2 year contract with this club.

Well done MFC and well done Riv, Col, Ricky and Chip!!

I agree "Demon Jack" Never quite sure why some people hate Rivers so much. Like most players he has good days and not so good days. But I rarely see him put in a shocker!

Our Back line is always under pressure, until we start to exert some forward line / scoring pressure our backmen's error are always going to look bad. Even Geelong's backline has goals kicked against it. When you are winning small errors do not get magnified the way they do when you are loosing.

Rivers is a good reliable backman, and will be part of our team for some time.

  21. The all blue is where the AFL considers we clash with all these teams. They consider black and blue the same. It baffles the f... out of me as well mate. We played against these sides more 100+ years without this being an issue, why is it such a massive deal now? But any team with dark coloured backs on the jumper, they consider us to clash with. In particular, Adel, P.A., St Kilda, Essendon, Richmond, Brisbane, Freo, WCE...iTS ASTONISHING. Yet, as I have said before, no problem with Geelong and Collingwood? ha! That is worse that collingwood and North. Joke!

Guys I spoken to two people at the MFC this afternoon.

It will be a white jumper, AFL have decreed it so and we do not have the power to fight them.

We need them more than they need us. I am not trying to be rude but we had better get over it.

Pies and bombers have the power and do not comply.

When we have 50 000 members, have $5 million in the bank and won the last three flags we might fight it.

    I should live that long!

  22. I have checked out the position for all those like myself who are unsure on the position re "Clash Jumpers".

Excuse me those who already know the following.

The AFL decides when a "clash Jumper" will be worn.

The AFL has decreed that all clash jumpers must be predominately white!

All clubs with the exception of Collingwood, Essendon and Richmond have a mainly white jumper.

The other exception is Geelong, who's clash strip has more blue than the home jumper ( go figure).

Interetsing that the teams with a lot of black ( the hardest colour to see ) do not abide by the AFL decision.

No largely red jumpers will be considered.

So in our case we have to chose a design that is white with Red and Blue highlights.

The MFC will abide by the AFL directive, next year it will be white with additions similar to the MCC emblems etc.

I have in the last couple of hours experienced a "conversion on the road to Demascus".

I am all for the concept, what really anoys me is losing! if we had beat St Kilda on Sunday I would not have noticed the white jumper.

Like it or not we will have to get used to a predominately white jumper.

    End of story.

  23. Did we really wear a white clash strip last week against St.kilda??

Well that just backs up my arguement from all along doesn't it-These Alternative strips are not used for "Clash" purposes. They are a marketing Tool, that the AFL make a cut out of.

Playing in a white jumper against St.kilda-How ridiculous and down right arrogant AFL.

If we must wear this Rubbish it must be Red & Blue.

Essendon do not wear white in a clash strip so why should the MFC??

It is all about power / muscle!

Essendon and Collingwood are powerful and have plenty of money, a few years ago when the AFL was pushing the idea of "away / clash jumpers"

They told the AFL to go jump, they would not move from their traditional jumpers.

Melbourne on the other hand was close to going broke and needed hand outs from the AFL to survive.

So guess what our discussion was " yes Sir, no Sir three bags full Mr. AFl.

So we wear whatever the AFL decides.

I hate the white jumper but we have no choice.

I think it is more an "away jumper" now.

Maybe wrong but that would account for why we wore it last sunday.

  24. Guys we seldom have more than two changes that are not forced by injury.

There will be I think only two changes.

Mcdonald will not be risked and what for he has another year in him if we do not push him unecessarily.

And for what reason we are not about to play finals.

Bailey normally gives players more than one game at senior level so that makes Spencer and Cheney safe.

    IMO the changes will be:

Out Jetta and Grimes (injured ).

In Sylvia and either Bail or Morton.
