  1. I have been involved in this subject on a number of occasions and try as I might I could not let this one go past.

First let me say I DO NOT WANT THE DEES TO PLAY IN A CLASH / AWAY STRIP!

It is beyond belief that St. Kilda is being force to wear a clash jumper on Saturday.

For the life of me I struggle to see a clash with this game, I think it was more of clash last friday but Geelong wore their normal jumper.

I know why individual teams ( MFC ) roll over on the clash jumper but surely it is time for a bit of unionism by the other 14 clubs.

Every team should contact the Saints and say play in your normal jumper and we will contribute to the fine.

Now that will not happen and the saints will play in the white clash jumper.

If they win the subject will be lost for all time.

I fear it is lost anyway so we need to finish on top!

Otherwise we will be playing in our clash strip

However I would like to have the problem in 2011!

  2. From my previous post on another thread.

Are we seeing the end of the Geelong Dynasty?

I think so, amazing how a year effects players quite a few are now looking a little slow.

I have thought the cracks were starting to appear this year and last night we saw the Grand Canyon!

If Gazza heads north they are gone.

He had 40 disposals last night, without him the margin would have been double.

I have watched the great white hope ( Hawkins )at Geelong the last two years.

Sorry to say he is at best an average player.

Just goes to prove a very good under age player and high draft pick ( I know he was farther and Son )

does not guarantee a very good senior player. 1 kick last night.

I have thought for some time he was being made to look better than he was by playing for Geelong.

Every week his return is modest in a team that gives its forward line a lot of well directed enteries.

Would be playing for Coburg if he was at Richmond!

I can feel a win at Geelong coming up in 2011!

They will be a good side next year still inside the eight but the flag is now a fading memory for Geelong.

  3. Geelong let the football world down last night.. we relied on them to wipe the Pies out but they just were not up to it. If it wasn't for Ablett they would have been obliterated. Its hard to tell if the Pies were that good or Geelong was that bad. It sucks that I have to say that the Pies were pretty damn good last night and of all nights, why did they have to get their kicking go thru? All year they have had accuracy issues and the one week we could have really done with that inaccuracy, they straighten up.. I am sooooo glad I am not in Melbourne right now. It must be absolutely intolerable with all those black and white mongrels gloating.... lets hope they are firmly shut up by 5pm next Saturday!!

I hate Collingwood go the Saints ( they will win easy tonight )

  4. Like Wonna???

Honestly, MFC is not a family repatriation depot.

    Pass.

Agree with you Rhino, I think we have the better one of the two.

It would want to be a very good deal for the MFC !

This is the sort of deal we would have done in the bad old days.

    No for mine.

  5. Well many posters will add me to this list-as I don't think it is as Silly or ridiculous as you may think. Fevola could indeed fill that hole as we all have subscribed- a big tall forward- if he got paid out and we put him on a performance salary with strict conditions-- it may just be worth a very little consideration.

Sorry to be so negative "Jayceebee31" but the "very little consideration" would be about 1 second for me.

    NO

  6. The Hawks have recently resigned Roughhead for a further 2 to 3 years so they wont be trading him. And if they did they would want far more than Warnock. And players like Maric and Cheney are not "trade bait" to push the deal through

And as a premiership forward this year down on his confidence he still kicks 49 goals from 92 shots from a patchy up and down midfield....he a spud.

And Watts is more a Riewoldt than Kosi type of forward. I dont see Watts as a second ruckman forward.

    Me neither

  7. ......a Watts' doubter....I would say you are in a minority which is getting smaller all the time.....What Bailey is looking for I assume is a big body we can use as a 'get out jail' card when we attack, if we have no other option we can bomb it in and hopefully get it to ground, if not marked, and maybe clear out a few bodies.....PJ was tried, Newton was tried, both unfortunately failed.........Fitzpatrick when he puts on about another 20k and Gawn when he is physically ready will be given a go...but until then maybe a reject from another club aged about 25-28 who would be grateful to be given another crack for a year..with the option...Bailey has spoken and apart from us on here discussing it I am sure there are a few player managers doing exactly the same thing with the FD.

And not afraid to admit it!

But this thread was not about Watts!

He is not the type Bailey is after.

I agree with your thoughts seem spot to me.

  8. Jack learnt in 2010 that he needs to work a lot harder to make it as an AFL footballer. In his first few games he didn't have the tank required to play at AFL level, with games this improved and we saw him work hard up the ground on leads then as all good forwards do work hard leading back towards goal. The last few games he had limited impact but he knows what he needs to do over preseason to improve his game. Fitness is the key he needs to stay fit over the next 12 months.

    I think you are correct!

I am one of the doubting Thomas'

However I will give him another season or two to prove me wrong

( no choice as he is signed up for three more and I do want him to be very good).

He did finish the season poorly however he had a few mates among the young brigade.

22 games is a long time to be up if you are in your first couple of seasons and he did not have much of a pre season.

  9. This is an interesting one. I know many Sydney/Canberra watchers rave about him ... But he hasn't played a game of AFL.

Plus last year when Swans wanted to improve their Ruck division they went to the trade table ... that concerns me.

What price do you think we will have to pay Sydney - Who do we lose on our list to fit him in?

I am not interested! we have three Ruckman / Forward types who seem to me to be in the same stage of development as Him.

Bailey seemed to me to be suggesting someone 24 - 26 years old who has a proven record of some substance.

  10. Yep, Watts wasn't taken because of the position he'd play for us.

He was taken because we had the number 1 pick and he was the best there.

    Pretty simple.

It would be a monumental waste of his talents to lock him in the gym, plonk him in the goalsquare and pidgeon-hole him as a FF.

E25 I could not agree more.

I am a Watts doubter however if his to make it then it will be as tall fast roaming Forward as you suggest.

IMO Watts is not the type Bailey is looking for!

  11. Watts is a leading forward, be it as a leading Full Forward or a CHF. What the club is educating him to do is lead both ways, work hard up the ground and even harder back towards goals. The difference between Watts and Miller as a lead up CHF, Watts can hit targets by foot, Miller always wanted to handball.

We drafted two players last year that we want to develop into the ruck/forward option, don't forget our Giant Max Gawn he was a key forward until he had the huge growth spurt. I'm not concerned about our current forwards we have enough options with out a old school Gorilla. We need to continue to improve on getting quality ball inside our 50m arc and our transition from defensive 50 to attack, we still don't get the footy inside our forward 50m arc enough.

I would be targeting Mundy, this might cost you pick 12 but you are getting a quality ball user that can run off half back or through the middle.

The point of starting this tread was that Bailey believes we need a big body stay at home forward in the next year or two.

It would seem that if he shares your thoughts on Max Gawn ( Plus Mckenzie ) he must believe that he/ they are some years off filling this role to be considering drafting a player of this type in the next year or two!

I think it is interesting that DB has signalled that the MFC might use a draft pick to go after an older player when all we have heard for three years is youth, youth and youth.

  12. Geelong recruited Ottens & J Pod, that's hardly working with what they had. Also Tom Hawkwins was drafted only a couple of years ago to play key position.

"Bonkers" this is going off the thread but I think Hawkins is ordinary!

I have watched him now for three seasons, I have never see him do much that puts him above useful.

At Geelong he plays in a forward line that get a lot of well delivered entries.

He gets the 3 - 4 best defender and IMO does very little.

Not impressed, he was taken under the Father and Son rule but would have been a high draft pick.

If he had been taken by a lower club I suspect the press would be after his blood by now.

  13. And what you may ask, was Watts drafted for? Not another hit up half forward FFS?

    Good grief.

I am only telling what Dean Bailey said. He is the head coach and one would assume he knows what the team needs.

If he does not know we are in a lot of trouble.

I do not believe he is fool!

He said we have a lot of "lead up forwards" and he included Watts in that group.

If he thinks Watts is a "lead up forward" who am I to argue.

Until events prove other wise Watts is a "lead up forward".

  14. we should go after MRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. KENNEDY............... Kennedy

if he is out of contract.

to be honest i dont think he is

I think he is contracted and read the Eagles List Assessment earlier today.

I'd say they is no chance they would trade.

He was one of the few bright spots on their list.

  15. Is Roughead contracted at the Hawks? He should be our target.

We could offer him a nicer contract than Hawthorn.

Hawthorn to get Pick 12 & Warnock?

His kicking would need to improve. I am sure it will. Still young enough to correct! Could play ruck also I would think.

    Can be very damaging...

I wish "Jungle Dee" there is no chance IMO the hawks would let him go even if his kicking is poor.

Improve his kicking and the Hawks would be playing this weekend

    and fortunately they know it.

  16. Heard Dean Bailey on SEN this afternoon

Among other things he said that we need a big key position forward to play deep in the forward line

( not a surprise ) who can also play a secondary role as a ruckman.

Gave the suggestion that we might use a draft pick for an established player.

If not this year than next year

Said we have plenty of "lead up forwards" but we need someone to play deep in attack.

Did any one else hear his interview?

Perhaps I am reading too much into this!

but I think we might surprise by trading an early pick this year for this type of player.

  17. The coaches Boxes on the Western Oval Wing were just a trip in themselves, i miss those suburban grounds so much.

The Jokes in the crowd are no where near as funny as they used to be.

The end was when the Goal umpires were de-robed & de Hatted and put in a Baseball Kit!

We are far too politically correct now.

While I do miss some of those grounds I do not miss windy hill and people pissing in bottles because you could not leave your spot.

Everyone complains about visits to Collingwood I think Windy hill was the pits, easily the worst ground and supporters!
