Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
John Crow Batty replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not as shallow as the cynical approach to drug taking that has been going on for years. Frankly I don't want to see yet another drama involving us. I hope this episode passes as painlessly as possible. It the worst comes it won't set us back as the disasters of the past few years. Those senior persons that may have engaged in unprofessional conduct are now gone and the players if guilty have to face the consequences of their actions. -

Good point. Dunn hasn't done much and wont be around much longer and if Trengove is as slow as last season he wont be missed. -
Some posters here are a community on to themselves with their multiple aliases.

If it is the case that Frawley has signed elsewhere then lets hope he does the honourable thing and puts in a Gary Ablett style departing season. Not like that malingerer thats strung us along for an entire season.

Neeld made a lot of mistakes, but this wasn't one of them
John Crow Batty replied to TGR's topic in Melbourne Demons
Isn't hindsight marvellous. Shame the hindsight experts spent their time cheerleading Whiteboard Wednesday, draft positioning and stillborn youth policies when they should have had a more critical appreciation of what was really going on. Many knew there was a bad smell around but some influential posters were all to wiling to help paper over the cracks. -
What do we need to do to get long term visibility?

That would be a Golden Anniversary of sorts. Surprising we are still together barracking for the same club really. Anyway, a Golden Anniversary is supposed to be a blessed milestone. -

A little spark from the Melbourne Heart deal. Maybe we could try to forge an alliance with the likes of Manchester United? We share the devil as a mascot. And there is no other sporting club that can [censored] merchandise like they do. Make even the filth look small time. We could become Melbourne United. M E U rolls nicely off the tongue. -
rpfc likes to think he is the thought police around here. Be PC or just learn to deal with the constant ankle biting.

I blame him for most of the ills when he was in charge. Coaches and players are victims to varying degrees. And perhaps even the board. -
One thing for sure barring injury, I expect an A grade season from Frawley this year. Be it to up his value for a new suitor or to help rejuvenate our frazzeled club. I don't expect to see any vapid and listless performances like he sometimes delivered in our recent limbo and/or purgatory period.

Just love it as the apologists keep puting the blame back on Bailey. It was not Baileys fault and Neeld was an inept stooge for the incompetants for their disastorous youth and tanking strategy and power struggle against common sense. Headless chooks in control everywhere. Bailey paid the price for going against the powers. He had us on the up but the meddlers could not help themselves. Vlad was so right when he said a few years ago we were a souless club. Thank god he finally stepped in and cleaned the club out of these losers. The football community knows the value of good ex coaches with football brains. Bailey now has a prize assistants job and Neeld is back to school where he belongs. -

Just like the last days of the Third Reich when only the Hitler Youth and a smattering of foreign fighters were left to defend the bunker. How bad a club were we then? Completey gutted and souless. The mind boggles to why there are some that still find good words for the incompetants that almost led us to our ruination. -

How can you compare compare Dench with Trengove? Dench aside from loads of talent was confident and cocksure and all dash in his approach. Trengove was like a startled rabbit in front of the headlights. Totally different character and maturity for the job. -
At this stage I would temper my concern. This is the way of Free Agency. But if rumours appear and they won't go away and get bigger like with TS then I might look at it differently. Melbourne is still an unknown quantity this season and it appears we have reached the end of the dark ages. If the same admin and coach as then were around he would be front of the queue to leave for sure. But I get the vibe he means what he says unlike listening and reading what TS said.

Before it closes a special mention to Schwab, Mclardy, Connoly, Scully, Daniher, Moloney, McLean and everyone else connected to the club who have Buckley's of getting AOTY. Maybe Roo's next year? -

Lets hope one day there will be an indigenous brain surgeon or scientist. I guess race wouldn't matter if we get that far. Well done to Goodes. -
Dead meaningless game in a dying version of cricket. Woeful bowling including 16 wides. Complete form reversal allows former feckless poms to breeze to over 300. Aussies overwhelming favourites with the bookies. Somehow expected this before the start of the game. Why an I so cynical?

Time to sack the Richmond Board
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have nothing against individuals who may have unsavoury friends but the problem of corruption, drugs and gambling in sport is huge and getting worse. A line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere. What do we value the most, the rights of highly paid professionals who may be tainted or the integrity of the game? I believe professional sports need to take a zero tolerance stance but needs consistent across the board enforcement to ensure fairness and consistency. And if that impinges on the rights of elite sport persons to freedom of association then so be it. -
2010 A space oddity (our false dawn and Paul Roos)
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Trying to read all his tens of thousands of denialist posts under numerous aliases is a punishment not even Hercules could handle. He was lucky he had to clean out the Augean Stables instead. -
Believe it or not Sonny Barger the founder and former leader of the Hells Angels in the USA had his Harley stolen once upon a time outside a drive in restaurant. When the thieves found out it was his bike they dumped it in a river. According to Sonny, the Hells Angels caught the thieves and all he would say was they "got hurt bad" without going into details that might incriminate him. I hope they were insured.

2010 A space oddity (our false dawn and Paul Roos)
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
A bad loss for Roos and the Swans was an aberation but throughout history every good team has put in a stinker once in a while. I think it was more about them than about us. We did look promissing for a while in 2010 and looked pretty good when we got the taste for an easy kill. We always played above ourselves when we could sense the oposition did not come to play and that was the case for that day. I do believe it a new dawn for us this season. The club has been transformed from top to bottom ansd is now a virtually clean template for Roos to work with. It is not insignifcant that this will be our 50th year anniversary since our last flag. These kind of milestones be they positive or negative have a tendancy to reshape the future IMO
