Adam Goodes - Australian of the Year
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in General Discussion
Lets hope one day there will be an indigenous brain surgeon or scientist. I guess race wouldn't matter if we get that far. Well done to Goodes. -
Dead meaningless game in a dying version of cricket. Woeful bowling including 16 wides. Complete form reversal allows former feckless poms to breeze to over 300. Aussies overwhelming favourites with the bookies. Somehow expected this before the start of the game. Why an I so cynical?

Time to sack the Richmond Board
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have nothing against individuals who may have unsavoury friends but the problem of corruption, drugs and gambling in sport is huge and getting worse. A line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere. What do we value the most, the rights of highly paid professionals who may be tainted or the integrity of the game? I believe professional sports need to take a zero tolerance stance but needs consistent across the board enforcement to ensure fairness and consistency. And if that impinges on the rights of elite sport persons to freedom of association then so be it. -
2010 A space oddity (our false dawn and Paul Roos)
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Trying to read all his tens of thousands of denialist posts under numerous aliases is a punishment not even Hercules could handle. He was lucky he had to clean out the Augean Stables instead. -
Believe it or not Sonny Barger the founder and former leader of the Hells Angels in the USA had his Harley stolen once upon a time outside a drive in restaurant. When the thieves found out it was his bike they dumped it in a river. According to Sonny, the Hells Angels caught the thieves and all he would say was they "got hurt bad" without going into details that might incriminate him. I hope they were insured.

2010 A space oddity (our false dawn and Paul Roos)
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
A bad loss for Roos and the Swans was an aberation but throughout history every good team has put in a stinker once in a while. I think it was more about them than about us. We did look promissing for a while in 2010 and looked pretty good when we got the taste for an easy kill. We always played above ourselves when we could sense the oposition did not come to play and that was the case for that day. I do believe it a new dawn for us this season. The club has been transformed from top to bottom ansd is now a virtually clean template for Roos to work with. It is not insignifcant that this will be our 50th year anniversary since our last flag. These kind of milestones be they positive or negative have a tendancy to reshape the future IMO -
They pride themselves as being 1%er's and living outside the law. I am not talking about the "all the gear, no idea" types who like making a lot of noise cruising the beaches on weekends. Real biker( read hardened vicious criminal)+ legitimate business + insurance + suspicious fire usually = fraud. I don't blame the insurance company for fobbing them off.Further, an ex girlfriend of mine got involved with them. First drugs, then stripping and prostitution and now a missing person presumed dead for 17 years. Last seen riding off into the sunset with a notorious biker. Those scum deserve all the heat they get

One thing he would have learned was, "Never be stooged to do someone elses dirty work ever again"

I had my odd run in with the police over the years. Some cops once tried to get me to sign a blank statement and gave me a few whacks to persuade me. Sure I was guilty but held my nerve. The physical persuasion didn't work so they gave up and we had a nice chat about fast cars and girls whilst they drove me home 20km at 4am. BTW I don't have any convictions. if people act like idiots they will be treated like idiots. Cops are human too and react to provacations just like any person. Most cops don't make it a habit of harrassing innocent people or sensible miscreants. CB is an idiot and any issues he has with the police would most likely be caused by him.

No "elite" players at Melbourne
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
If Roos can get the team together and focused I am sure we way may end up with at least a few "elite" players on the hit parade by the end of the season. Its all about winning. -
St. Kilda v Melbourne - 2006 Elimination Final
John Crow Batty replied to Courtney_Fish's topic in Melbourne Demons
No conspiracy here, more like it was another inspired move by the genius who created Whiteboard Wednesday. -
Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
John Crow Batty replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
So many familiar names. There must be a big connection with drug abuse. My favourite Macho Man Savage died of an enlarged heart. He didn't even know he had a problem. -
The end of the world is coming ...
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
We all know that TS is grossly overpaid. Hence GWS have to find extra duties for him and get some modicum of value out of him. He does the media bull spin that others don't want to do. -
Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
John Crow Batty replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
If so he would have been one of many. This is one of those truths that dares not speak it's name at all clubs. I would add. One of my former employees is married to an undercover police detective. She told me many years ago that Hird's house had been raided by the police in possible connection to PED's. Funny enough reports of the same story popped up in the media when the issue blew up this year. -

Who remembers Marion Jones? Not to mention more than several departed leading body builders and "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Those who muck around with unnatural substances are rolling the dice on life. -
Time to sack the Richmond Board
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
LFL is not my cup of tea but my visual senses are accosted by pretty women every time I walk down a busy street and my olfactory senses also if I get too close. If only they dressed in unwashed tracky daks, potato sacks or a Burka I might be spared these distractions. -
Time to sack the Richmond Board
John Crow Batty replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
if JK likes to hang out with crooks and watch the LFL then thats no big deal by me. Just shows his type. As if the tats were not a dead giveaway. I have more of a problem of society becoming the revived version of the consorting squad. I bet JK gets close and personal to those lingerie babes every other day. Others who only whinge get a long distance eyefull at best. -
Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
John Crow Batty replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
Under AD the AFL has had a "nudge nudge wink wink" attitude to dodgy dealings with the expectation that if you don't cover your backside you quietly leave the building. Worked well but in this case JH does not want play by the rules. Just takes one bad egg to spoil the cake. -
Reported in THE AGE that McLardy put in $168,000 around January this year. And maybe a few other unnamed Melbourne identiles did too. An Annus Horribillis for Don.

5 million left in the bank at 5% interest returns well over $800, 000 in real money over three years. And the news get better and better the next year without raising a sweat.

Most ARL clubs are now gaming /social businesses that happen to have a rugby team to justify their existence so that they can continue to make millions without any hinderance. AFL clubs are real football clubs that solely exist to play football and happen to have a limited gaming/social aspect to help pay the bills. More like a modest cash earner rather than as a core business.

The refreshing thing is that Roos will not have the baggage from the previous administration that Neeld had to deal with. The players had lost all confidence in those in charge and the direction the club was heading under Stynes, McLardy and Schwab and Co. Neeld was made skipper of a fast sinking ship and he did not have the qualities to do anything positive about it. Hence his game plan was still born from the begining because he was perceived as a tool of the old regime. Roos will have a clean slate to work with what I believe is maximum buy in from the players.

They may require a lttle more time than 2 weeks. The prognosis is not good.
