Did a list of what I consider our worst shockers over the past two season. These were losses where we were expected to do well, were total capitulations or both. Most are quite evenly spread throughout the season with a couple of exceptions late in the season. There is a pattern there. So we are due for a win or an honourable loss in round 5 by these figures. 2016 2017 2018 Round 2-Essendon Round 4- Freo Round 4- Hawthorn Round 6- Saints Round 9- North Round 10- Port Round 15- Syd Round 13- Syd Round 19- North Round 17-Saints Round 20- GWS Round 22- Carlton Round 23- Collingwood Round 23-Geelong

Good to see the likes of Gawn and also PJ under pressure to explain the clubs missteps even if they get a little muddled. There are now more and more fans that are intolerant of giving mulligans for mediocrity and are holding everyone at the club accountable in the public domain and social media.

Did the role Pederson currently fills. -
Deflect and distract. The art of a propaganda bull artist.

We rolled over for 9th spot last season. A disaster followed by a disaster in losing 25 percentage points and four spots on the ladder let alone the humiliation. Just losing the four points seems trifling. How many wake up calls can we take? For the record, since Hogan got rid of his antics and started acting like a footballer I changed my opinion on him ages ago. Trust you to play the poster and not the argument. I hope the club pays you well for all the spin and tripe you dish out to justify mediocrity.
-
But.....but it was an aberration according to some.
-
I got that gist from Gawns and PJ’s comments. At least we are keeping our aberration average to about one every four rounds.
-
The jury is still out whether it was an aberration.

Good point but different circumstances. Then there was chaos akin to open revolt, now there inertia and confusion.

During WW2 The RAF lost all of nearly its squadron leaders as well as its most experienced flight crews within a few months of the start of hostilities. Eventually due to attrition and necessity most aircrew were teenagers and there were officers and squadron leaders not yet in their 20’s running the show. There were elite night fighter pilots who could not drive a car and were legally too young to have a license.. I am sure that if given an opportunity there are real unheralded leaders lurking within the clubs lower and junior hierarchy. And I don’t mean the pinup boy types like during the Neeld era. I guess we will never know whilst the overpaid and over comfortable lot are still in charge.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 5
John Crow Batty replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think we will win because we are Melbourne. We will put in a great effort against the odds. We will build winning form and won’t lose again until the bookie odds are in our favour of at least 3/1. -
Favourable comparisons with bottom feeders does not make me feel better. If they are valid arguments then we are not much better.

Because Jones is usually always consistently good and reliable though presents as a little self satisfied we are expected to assume he is a leader. Unfortunately it appears he is going to hold on to that title till he retires. I don’t expect dramatic leadership improvement until that happens. As for Goodwin, I still see more upside than negatives in his coaching. But the leadership is currently the vacuum between the coaches and players.
-
Not a fair comparison. Every team has a shocker every now and then but no team consistently lose when expected to win like we do and have done adnauseum for the past three seasons. And good teams do not lose to mediocre sides when a finals spot is at stake. Last Sunday I would not classify as a shocker because we started well then slacked off and eventually capitulated. Good teams that have a shocker are almost always off their game from the start. Further Adelaide while being a very good side have been crippled in big and small games by their softness which is an issue with us. If we don’t harden up we might eventually get to a GF and be creamed just like what happened to Adelaide. On the current way we play and approach games, there is no hope to win a flag.

5 rounds ago we did.
-
Well the apologists say this a just a horrible loss but this is the second in the last five rounds we played and are 2/3 for this mini horror run. And aside from squandering a long overdue finals berth. Yep rising with a bullet we are.

Age podcast. The Demons have gone backwards. More media trashing is what we need. Praise just enhances the taste of the bath water. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-demons-have-gone-backwards-20180416-p4z9wg.html

Yeah they got over that one. Then they had the camp that gave them [censored] pruritus. Now they have something new to bother them.

Knows how to find opportunities in front of goal but there is a name for his all to frequent missing regulation goals in most games. Its called momentum killing.
