Have a feeling about this game. Not suggesting a win, but that we'll be up and about. Had the same feeling last week, whereas a sinking feeling going into the St.Kilda game. I reckon the team is starting to believe in themselves. Then again.....

I heard David Coroner interviewed on the Coodabeens a few weeks back. Great interview, had some fun/scary things to say about Barass. He was a classic MFC tease, was Cordner. Big, blond, athletic, great Dees pedigree, and just a bit ho-hum.

I heard a story (just can't remember who or when....age....grrrr) which came from a player at the time, that he was deliberately ostracised by the other players on game day for exactly those money reasons. It was the reason he never played to his potential, and why he left. I want to say it was via Brent Crosswell or Crackers Keenan. Crackers seems more logical cos he was just there at the time. I think? It's odd that we'd been so bereft of star 'big bags of goals' forwards for so long. Allen Jakovich broke that mould, but as we know, it ended up being too good to be true. Great while it lasted though.

I have total confidence that Billy Stretch and Alex Neal-Bullen will be first choice regulars within 2 years based on what they've shown with only a handful of games this year. They have the essentials : reading the game, making AFL level decisions, AFL level skills in carry and disposal. Remember they are 18 years old, and have Angus Brayshaw as the first year standard at the club. Brayshaw is absolutely one out of the box, and will be a star of the competition. He's a cruel comparison for anyone. Overall an exceptional recruiting/drafting year. If next year is as good, things are looking very rosy. However, we MUST have a combination of regular and growing wins, and an inclusive 'team' collective culture to keep them all at the club. So far, so good.

The problem with any prediction for the remaining games, let alone even next week, is that we are by some enormous margin the LEAST predictable team of 2015. Really, who the hell knows?!

As none of what you have just written was true today, it is just garbage.

6 Vince 5 Jones 4 Gawn 3 Dawes 2 Garland 1 Hogan

Once again Nasher, using facts to obscure the patent reality is just plain silly. He doesn't take any marks, lay any tackles, kick any goals or in fact do anything of any value. He's a liability, and I know you've been reading Demonland, so you should know that.

Chris Dawes was huge today. He is a MUCH better footballer than given credit for on here. It was a Brereton like old fashioned centre half forward performance. Yes, he has limitations, blah blah. He was outstanding today.

Fear not rpfc, science is on your side.

What he said is not nonsense, Kali. The endurance capacity of the body can be enhanced over the long term. It relates specifically to VO2 Max and lactate threshold, which can be maximised over the long term, not in the space of one preseason. Musculoskeletal resilience is also at its best in the mid to late twenties.Endurance potential also improves with age right through to the mid for most, and late 30's for some. That there is a trade of in loss of strength, and ballistic power is a complication for some sports that require this, but endurance sports are never populated by athletes in their early twenties. It is entirely predictable and physiologically provable that the first to fourth year players will drop off as the season wears on. Still, never let science get in the way of a black and whit argument.

Because some on here are simply better judges than the coaches. Just ask them.

Careful sue, logic and reason get a mixed reception here, particularly after game day.

A big part of the reason Tyson gets pinged is that he is very good at getting his hands and arms out of the tackle. To the ump that represents an opportunity to dispose, which of course it does, but other players just allow the ball to be buried in the tackle....ball up. The inconsistencies to the holding the ball/incorrect disposal adjudication are a frank embarrassment to our game at the moment. It is an utter raffle, with not an ounce of credibility. Effectively a toss of the coin. How it gets fixed I don't know, but it is poisoning the game.
-
Exactly. But then the comment came from someone who thought Gawn was rubbish last week. Not a great reader of the game.
-
I catch your drift, and if it comes to pass I won't complain. Very little sympathy for the Cats, they have a very sweet existence in the AFL, the likes of which the Dees, Dogs, Saints and Roos can only dream of.

Look at Geelong's record at home this year. It's rubbish. By their own admission it's far from the fortress it was. It's an entirely apt comparison, and my gloom is entirely supported by facts. The alternative view is just hope at this stage. A LOT is riding on the next two games.
-
This year's Geelong is last year's Adelaide. Geelong have been very ordinary this year, particularly at home. They are equivalent wins. I think it's wishful thinking to get too reductive about the stats, so wins and percentage is about where it's at. Also, our fixture up to now is very similar to last year in respect to relative strength of opponents. I hear the talk of improvement, but it's just wishful thinking so far.
-
The point is that we were doing the same thing last year. At this stage, when we thought we would be better than last year, we aren't. You know, year on year progress. Yes of course we are better than Neeld era, but I've not seen progress from LAST year. A few more wins before season end will change my mind, but at this stage it is not there. As much as people might hate them, the stats prove this definitively. The next 8 games will define the next few years I think.

See a sports Physio, and all your questions will be answered. Spoken as a sports Physio who gets frustrated when patients try and self manage from the Internet or through the suggestions of mates.

Fooled most of us I think, P-man. Sadly since then we've been made bigger fools. Never again?

Agree Vagg. He's far from the worst commentator out there, and has an often unique take and a love of footy. Don't know about the Essendon/WASADA thing cos stopped reading and listening to it years ago.
-
Exactly. Comparing the 'best' of all teams in the AFL puts us at the bottom of the pile. Praha said it above perfectly. Unless Brisbane and St.Kilda don't come to play, they will both beat us easily. It could happen of course, but I think Brisbane are on the hunt. Some on here don't want to, or can't see it, but we are the worst team in the competition. It's that simple.
-
Yep. They're a 6 to 8 goal better side than us at the moment, as are St.Kilda. 3 weeks ago, these were pencilled in as wins. Now, I can't see where our 5th win is going to come from. We are THAT bad.
-
Danger game implies we expect to win. That's a frankly ludicrous expectation. Brisbane will be rubbing their hands together at the prospect of playing us. We are currently the most beatable team in the AFL, and everybody knows it. As for St. Kilda the week after, they will thump us.
