Disappointing. I cannot understand how every time we would get a bit of a cushion, we just took the foot off the pedal and let them back into the game; every single time!! If we had maintained our pressure, we could have taken the game right away from them. I liked Langdon, Gawn and Lindsay’s games, I was happy to see Jeffo snag a couple, and was really pleased that our debutantes all contributed, other than Langford who was done a real disservice by being named as the sub and had little time to adjust to the pace of the game. Windsor did a couple of amazing things, but he was quiet for much of the game. I was disappointed by JVR, Fritsch, Viney (gets the ball, but delivery leaves a lot to be desired) and a few of the other older heads. The tall defenders did well, the forward line was its usual dysfunctional self. The midfield was generally very good, but I think they could probably have made more of Gawn’s absolute domination in the ruck contests. Overall, this week’s Dees seemed a little bi-polar. i get the feeling that Jeffo has probably earned himself return bout, but Johnson might be playing for Casey (do they even have a game next week?). JVR and Fritsch will only keep their spots because there seems to be this expectation that next week will see them break out.

How’s the weather looking? I turned on the telly, only to see that everything at Albert Park has been red flagged and cancelled so far (F3 and Touring Cars).

Illness is what I recall reading somewhere.

We’ll need to have a season of biblical proportions!

Sorry, but my inner pedant (yes, I’m revolting) couldn’t pass this up… how is it possible to finish higher than finishing in the eight?
  6. There’s more than one meaning of the word ā€œFlagā€ā€¦ think of it in terms of a verb.

Well, he’s managed to make himself appear out of nowhere on the MCG.

Let’s hope they bring a little polish to the team.
  9. Given that Spargo played in Saturday’s match simulation, and assuming he pulled up ok (does anyone know?), why would he still be listed as TBC on that injury list? Surely if he’s now in full training, they must have some idea of a time frame.

In all fairness, Johnson had reached his ceiling at VFL level, something that Jefferson may not have done yet (and I want him to get AFL games this year), so the sky is still the limit for Johnson at AFL level.
  11. Carlton were another of those clubs… the Judd recruitment being a perfect example.

The one thing that concerns me about this game is that GWS have now had a good run at full pace and commitment, while we are coming off an easy run in a match simulation (think, dancing with your sister). I’m not saying we’ll get destroyed, but there is every chance that they will be out of the blocks much faster than us. I hope we go into the the first bounce switched on… but I don’t feel confident that we will. Having said all of that, I have tipped us in the Demonland comp; there’s no way I pay all those dollars for an MFC membership without expecting something in return!

Jimmy Angel with his song Love Fever. This guy is 89 years old… 89!! F@%king Eighty NINE!!!!!! Phenomenalicious!!
  14. My takeaway chemo infusion pump bottle, awarded to me on completion of my fortnightly 3-4 hour infusion at the hospital. Let this be a warning to make sure you get the occasional colonoscopy, act on the bowel cancer screening test sent to you in the mail, and not to let life get in the way of these things. I was guilty on all counts.. don’t you be like Tim.

    Yes, I think so.

No one seems to be talking about it, but is there a chance that Toby Greene won’t be available for our game? That shoulder charge was a very deliberate act and not in the play. It also had enough force to knock the pies player to the ground.
  17. I’m in Sydney and a Foxtel subscriber, but this is so unfair. Are they trying to force people in Victoria to attend games, simply because you have the most clubs? It’s just plain wrong, however you look at it!!
  18. That is just insane! What are the AFL thinking allowing that to happen? The grassroots/working class supporters will be denied some of the best football, simply because they may not be able to afford the cost of a streaming service! it seems to be all about the dollars and [censored] the supporter base, many of who hold memberships with their clubs but for whatever reason, aren’t able to attend the game.
  19. A further update. My band will be playing a gig for a friend’s birthday in April (still open to the general public, so it should be crowded). Despite it being at the end of the week in which I have my chemo infusion, and is when I’m at my lowest ebb, I’ll be attempting to sing a handful of songs… but I’m in the process of inviting a few other vocalists and musicians to help out. So far it’s looking like Mick Daley, Andy Baylor, Jonny Gretsch, Marcus Phelan, with possibles being Terry Serio, Vogli Bonze (from the Japanese band Buddhadatta) and Lizzie Mack (from the Soul Movers)… other musicians who will almost definitely join in are Richard Burgman (Saints and Sunnyboys), Murray Cook (Wiggles and The Soul Movers), Marcus Holden on fiddle, Peter Head (from The Headband) and Bob Spencer (The Skyhooks and The Angels). A few aren’t yet locked in, but I’m hopeful most will make it, plus a few more. The older folk among us might recognise a few of those names. If you’re a Sydney based supporter or are likely to be in Sydney on Saturday 12th April, please try to come along and introduce yourself (how do I get more Demonlanders to see this post?).
  20. I’m not sure that there’s any correlation between the two things… a lot changes in the way of club culture over a period of 20(?) years or so. I hope he gets his chance.
  21. I think Huddo is a great commentator…he wears his love of the game on his sleeve and is like your mad keen supporter, but one who is able to communicate what he is seeing, in ways well beyond any of us. I’m not worried that his knowledge of the game might not be perfect, as that’s why they have experts on hand to provide their expert comments.
  22. I’m pretty sure Goodwin said, just the other day, that Jefferson will be getting games this year.
