Remind me, how many games has the Gys played with the Dees (not Casey)? 19 I believe - three in his first season, 15 in 2011 and just one this year; as far as development goes, by all appearances, you would not believe he has had three years. I like him, but I really don't think we would get much for him.

Fair enough... it's been a long time and maybe I am recalling the stage performance as opposed to the album itself. All I know is that it was the end for me as far as JT were concerned (but I do agree that Barr was a very underrated guitarist). But that's just me... I tended to dislike the "concept" album and so didn't like Oldfield's Tubular Bells, much of the Rick Wakeman material (although again, I liked him with The Strawbs), Hawkwind and the horrible Hawkwind spin-off, Robert Calvert's "Captain Lockheed & the Starfighters,".

I agree with this, but from a different angle... Dawes on his own may not be worth what we paid, but coupled with Clark and Byrnes (and possibly Pedersen) he takes on a completely different value. Everyone thought we had paid overs for Clark but that turned out to be wrong in terms of what he provided... now with the addition of Dawes, Clarks value increases as he will be able to have an even more positive impact due to Dawes drawing the numbers away from him; and this increases Dawes value as well.

If they were jokes (and funny ones at that), I might have a laugh, but unfortunately, I don't see too much to laugh at in a post that simply says "bloody hell, I hope this is true" or, "he is from WA. hope this is true and not a cruel joke" - don't know about you, but they didn't exactly have me rolling in the aisles.

No, after 500 I might find it acceptable.... actually, forget that, I find all of the player bashing that goes on here far too predictable and tiresome.

But that's the thing.. many are fretting over the fact that Gysberts may get traded, but it is still yet to be determined if he is actually a good player. The only game I can remember him doing very well in was his first... showed a lot of promise, but hasn't done much since (injuries not withstanding) to instill a lot of confidence.

I like the fact that he has a very strong pair of hands... great one grab marks!

That's weird, I posted almost the exact same question at almost the exact same time (11:19), in the "Latest murmurings of a crazy time" thread.

I don't know why people always worry about these player movements coming back to bite us. We will only get to play them a maximum of two games per season, and in most cases, the ex-Melbourne player is hardly likely to be the one that turns the game around (exceptions possibly being Farmer and Thompson). If he does better at another club, then good luck to him. I don't mind Prismall and if this means we also get Pedersen and Ray into the deal, then I'm all for it as that's a lot of experience coming on board, regardless of whether they are A grade, B grade or C grade players... they come from football departments that teach finals footy.

Who's being apologetic? The team is coming off a very very low base and has been putting in what could best be termed "insipid" performances for the last few seasons. Yes winning does matter and we would all love to see them winning games and we all no doubt expect them to win games, but more important than simply winning, is the attitude they carry into games and the effort that they put in. So, it is reasonable to say that we would like to see an end to the fade-outs and that we would like to see the opposition going away knowing they had been in a hard contest regardless of the result; and yes, I am using the "royal we" in this instance. What I get tired of are people who call the realists apologists and this expectation that we can suddenly turn things around in the blink of an eye... it just 'aint going to happen.

Gerry Rafferty I like, but I was always a bigger fan of John Martyn. I too was a bit of a prog rock fan during the first half of the '70's and spent '74/'75 living in the heart of the scene in London. I have great memories of going to see bands of the likes of Can, Hawkwind, Gong, Rennaisence, Curved Air etc, but unfortunately most of the big ones were no longer performing regularly and I never got to see the likes of ELP (or the Nice before them), Colosseum, King Crimson (at their peak) and so on. The funny thing is that by the time I left London, I was more into reggae and pre-punk music... having seen Bob Marley, GT Moore and his Reggae Guitars and Third World (reggae) and Eddie and the Hot Rods, Kilburn and the High Roads (Ian Durey), Brinsley Schwarz (later to become Graham Parker's Rumour) and The 101'ers (Joe Strummers first band before the Clash).

I was a Jethro Tull fan until they released Thick as a Brick :-) The first couple of albums were excellent, as they were filled with songs that each stood on their own, while with Thick as a Brick they feel into that horrible "musical opus" territory where extended solos become necessary and the music gets lost. I still remember going to see them at Melbourne's Festival Hall (in '72 I think it was) and being bored sh*tless; they were so lacking in everything that night... the only other time I have been so bored was when I went to see the Style Council at Sydney's Horden Pavillion in the 80's (and being a big Paul Weller fan, that was extremely hard to take).

I might try to get down to Melbourne for it as well... one of the great things about going to this game is that if we do lose, we won't have to put up with too many smug opposition supporters ;-)

I agree with rpfc... I want the fade-outs to come to an end (in any quarter) and for ALL of our wins and losses to be hard fought contests that could go either way; particularly those against top sides... I want opposition teams to know they have been in a contest, regardless of the result.

I was at both the Kooyong and Randwick Racecourse concerts in support of the release of Exile on Main Street... at Randwick, they arrived at the stage in a big white horse drawn carriage, which was pretty funny; but despite the quality of those concerts, as far as best rock act/performance I've ever seen, they were outclassed (in my opinion) by The Clash at Sydney's Capitol Theatre during their Magnificent Seven tour.
