  1. No twisting required... Harrington already stated that they would have used pick 3 for Viney if it had been necessary, so if some sort of a deal hadn't been struck with the GCS then that is exactly what would have transpired. Yes the midfield is one of the areas we need to address, but if you become too focused on that, you tend to overlook the fact that our forward line is also sorely depleted. As BH said, Hogan will have a year to develop and should hit the ground running in 2014... unless of course you think that investing in Hogan now will limit our chances of playing finals footy in 2013?
  2. You know this for a fact? Are you privee to what is going on behind closed doors? Anyway, in the wash-up, what you or I or anyone else say means nothing... the club will make the choices it sees fit to make. They did well to get Viney to 26 when he could just as easily have gone for 3. The club has obviously entered an agreement with GC to get that done and so if that means we are getting Hogan for what is essentially pick 13 as well as Barry and pick 20 for pick 26, then I have no issue with that at all.
  3. Shouldn't you be asking what number he would likely to be going at in next years draft? Think of it as buying "off the plan" or as an investment in the future. We still have pick 4 and now have pick 20 and have Viney for a song. If things hadn't gone our way, we would have used pick 3 on Viney anyway. The net effect is that the deal has really meant that Hogan, Barry and pick 20, have cost us picks 13 and 26.
  4. There are more sources on here than in your average supermarket shelf... careful with that axe Eugene!
  5. So does that mean the Dawes and Wellingham deal at pick 4 is still on the cards?
  6. Makes me wonder if you are a member now - far too fickle. Pick 13/14 for Dawes is not a bad investment, particularly if Viney isn't nominated and we can take him in the 2nd round. There's no reason we couldn't take Pederson as well if, as you seem to think, he would only cost pick 40...and Dawes brings far more experience than your pin-up boy (particularly finals experience).
  7. Makes their performance this year all the more remarkable.
  8. Isn't Scully also known as Riddle?
  9. Well, I suppose it depends on what the club is after. Midfielders that are ready to go seem to be one of our requirements, and you would have to think Viney fits the bill... so yes, for us, he may well be the 3rd best player in the draft. We've gone for what were widely considered 1st (and 2nd) best a couple of times in recent drafts... care to reflect on how that has gone for us?
  10. I think the meds are wearing off... of course it was Doggies to Saints (don't know what I was thinking). You don't see the resemblance to Christian Slater (that was the one thing that stood out about him for me)?
  11. I remember saying we should take FR when he was up for trade and the Doggies took him... I would be happy to see him in the red and blue... besides, every team needs a Christian Slater look alike to satisfy the true romantic in us all.
  12. Yes, I actually did know that...it was a rhetorical question ;-) But thanks anyway.
  13. It was tweeted that "Byrnes is off to do Kokoda in his off season in preparation for the season ahead".. hope he brings the same sort of driven attitude to the field.
  14. Here's the URL, go and take a look... http://www.youtube.com
  15. I think you might find that Geelong's main list is just a tad stronger than ours and therefore possibly a little harder to break into... and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't their magoos do reasonably well? We need experience, skill and pace and they are three things he does bring with him as well as a desire to play for our club. Tell me who you would rather have that we could realistically convince to come to our club during this free agency period.

  17. "MELBOURNE has confirmed its interest in Collingwood key forward Chris Dawes." "Demons look to Dawes" (http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/149034/default.aspx)
  18. I didn't actually see anything in that article quoting Wellingham; I only saw a few words from his manager. I doubt Wellingham has made any specific comments regarding the Dees, but imagine that perhaps he told his manager that the only move he is prepared to make is to the west, otherwise he would prefer to stay put at the Pies.
  19. In a strange kind of a way, maybe he is doing something positive for the club. By publicly kicking the club he is hopefully triggering a best kind response from the club; that is, they will let their game in order to rub his nose in it. As far as I can see, as a supporter he is venting in much the same way as many on here do... the only difference is that his words will be heard by all and sundry and will have the same effect that those "many" on here, wish that they could have.
  20. Thanks for the reminder that I'm still on the same Demonland I've grown to love over the past few years.
  21. You might be surprised just how many people here are interested in Lynch... now that he is no longer available ;-)
