  1. His latest statement that he didn't know about his fathers deal until after he signed in my view defies credibility.

And the only reason I can see to say it is to attempt to distance himself from the whole affair which diminishes his reputation.

I have to agree with Hells Bells that if Demetriou is quoted correctly it brings him no credit as a CEO. The AFL should not be encouraging deals that include parents, third parties or strecthing the rules. The first will bring a whole new dimension to recruiting which is undesirable and will complicate the system. Demetriou's green light to a stroke of genius will come back and cause him a stroke at some stage.

  2. Its telling that we dont have enough options for Captain.

Neeld needs someone with all of the following qualities:

    1. a consistent on field perfomer,
    2. a consistent under pressure performer,
    3. on field tactical awareness,
    4. a good communicator on and off the field,
    5. respect of his team mates,
    6. intelligent with the ability to relay Neeld's message to the group,
    7. capable of moments of on field inspiration.

So who ticks all those boxes?

Beamer doesn't. Chip comes close but may not be a natural communicator. Jones likewise but not yet an inspirational player. Grimes is yet to prove to be consistent due to injury. Russian? Trengove might be on the way there. Col, could be but keeps failing to live up to the promise. I can see why Green got the gig in the first place. In this situation I understand why Roos went for joint captains to get all the qualities needed and not to put the spotlight too much on one player. Maybe for a year or so we should do the same until there is a clear candidate.

(edit: fix my poor knowledge of where GWS is based)

  4. We are about to see the classic reporter slow drip where a little leak becomes a flood.

I venture tomorrow will be the document showing he signed on x date.

I bet he is regretting the whole I am misunderstood and been wronged line fed to the media recently.

Why he didn't just say "too much money for a young bloke to say no to", most would understand that even if they didn't like it.

Plenty to follow I bet, its clear there are many unhappy campers around the whole GWS situation.

  5. Neeld has made it clear, he will define roles and expect them to be delivered.

That is the clear strategy. So Clark plays forward.

Then we move onto tactics, on game day if Neeld sees Clark needs to be freed up he will move him out of the goal for a run.

A bit like Buddy does from time to time. We may also see Neeld use the mobility of Watts and Clark to find a way to goal by letting them run free at stages in the game. Imagine Martin resting in the pocket with clark and watts leading out either side.

We still need Martin and Jamar and from time to time Gawn will come in to fill an injury niggle.

What I like most about this move is that it gives some attitude to the club we haven't had.

  6. This draft picks lower thatn 30 will be a lottery anyway.

I think our guys would have said that unless its a pick above 30 forget it and I am sure bater will get a new role.

He may look back on this and say he is glad it didn't get done.

    In his hands now.

  7. I dont have a problem with Green being our captain because, as i've said before, i dont think a group of players should need a captain to motivate or lead them to play their best, especially when you have a million coaches & support staff who are effectivley leading the direction of the side. Changing the captian wouldnt have a measurable effect on the way a team plays.

Agree, but is Scully reall still one of your favourite players?

  8. I agree that we should be going for Clark...our forward line would look much better..

But, surely Brisbane are using our interest as a smokescreen to invite Fremantle to offer more than just pick 16....Mitch has already stated his desire to move back to WA....and has done so for a few seasons....

Personally, i think we are getting shafted here...false hope..

Trade week is all about alliances. You build them to get your preferred deal done.

We help Brisbane by getting into the game with something then they help us.

Problem for Freo was the did the super deal without gettting Bris involved and it left a bad taste in their mouth.

Freo then had to turn to its partner in crime GWS to get better picks.

So what is the deal we want to do that we need to get some help from Bris?

  9. No problem mate;

    1. Said that now that it's out in the open we will be going for Mitch Clark and are very keen.

    2. Haven't discussed whether we will part with pick 12, we'll talk draft picks if and when Clark says he is interested in coming.

    3. Are interested in Tommy Walsh from StKilda but on that note theres another 8-10 that interest us.

    4. Today will be an interesting day to watch.

    thank you greatly appreciated.

  10. Steady on, I'd offer a second round pick for a bloke who can get a game...this bloke is like the Kyle Cheny deal of last year. All we have to do is promise the right amount of Money, say $150K plus incentives and that should see it done...although I'm still not convinced this is the right move, after missing out on O'Meara and Crouch it appears that we are just desperate to Trade for anything. We really need to start moving better in Trade Week and start proposistioning players well in advance.

    here is my brain fade....

why are we so adept at bagging out our recruiting team (and others for that matter)?

Yes we wanted a 17 yo but as they say not at any price.

What inside information do you have about our plans and thus the supposed failure to move better and propositioning players in advance?

Probably the same information I have nil, unless we count the checkout girl in Belgrave mentioned elsewhere.

Give them a break. We are not a team expected to vie for the flag so we cant offer that to potentials as well.

We haven't seen any sign of desperation from them yet.

Sorry you are the one who gets the serve PP but I do think we need to relax a bit and not be quick to bag Harrington and others.
