  1. Definitely worth 2 years. If the Eagles had of applied this type of approach with their veterans over the last couple of years they may well have lost 1 or all of Embley, Glass, Cox, Lynch and Kerr and they all had excellent seasons. Good enough to propel them to a prelim.

Brad has been in our best 5 players for for a long time. A 2 year deal for a bloke that won the B&F last year and staved off lucrative offers from Collingwood and Sydney not that long ago to stay with Melbourne when he was in his prime and we were cellar dwellers is hardly selling the farm.

As for captaincy, I think he in consultaton witht he FD has earned the right to determine whether it is in the best interests of him as a player and the club to continue as captain in 2012 or handover to someone else.

I agree with this. We are too quick to judgement on this site at times (which I think was Ron B's point).

  2. Actually they were serving dinner at that time and in all fairness there were nearly 1,000 people there to feed. Despite the fact that I was starving, my dinner got cold whilst bringing you all this video. :P

    Thank you.

Your efforts are deeply appreciated. Especially those of us not in Melbourne

  3. Left Field but he flew out of Adelaide this morning to Melbourne.

Would they make such an announcement at the Bluey?

I have assumed our silence over the past couple of days was not to distract from the event tonight and maybe some of our targets are still with teams in the final 4.

    Time will tell.

  4. Nice little insight to see how Neeld operates with his players, lets hope this scene can be recreated next year with them both in red&blue.

Excellent insight. Trengove will benefit from this sort of coaching.

    Not to mention jones.

I expect some real improvements over the year.

  5. I also think we need to look at this as the new coach setting up what he wants within the constraints the club has:

CC out of Footy Dept but the club has to keep him for now (and he is a good salesman)

    Misson in.

Greaves in to help with the midfield (Royal out of the back line)

The interesting question is not about Royal but about who is coming into the backline.

  6. No, but I can get hung up on semantics...

The team I have trouble loving, they have done very little to earn it. Bereft of leaders and pathetic when challenged.

The club gets love inherently, there is no qualifying statement.

I can see that elsewhere (High Performance not Fitness).

Do you sing "its the emblem of the CLUB we love"?

  7. You love the club, not the team...

And we gave him a chance, so don't tacitly equate loving the club to giving Brad another chance as captain.

I love the club - I want a different captain.

Your right and wrong, I love the club and I love the team.(btw are you a lawyer?)

  8. I am not as confident as you.

He looked slow and ordinary this year, next year in March he will be 31.

I think one year is enough.

I suspect that is what is holding up him signing, he wants 2 the club 1 year.

Have we seen the last of Brad Green?

    Maybe!

Not a good look when your captain has no contract.

It is starting to smell like the end of 2010 all over again.

If the Dees suddenly call a press conference I am going to panic!

surely we have learnt our lesson.

  9. I'm not so sure it's that easy. I believe he just might have some serious psychological baggage regarding where we play (ie., has admitted that the Demons seem to stand taller at the G and not at Etihad or away etc) and the hard tag that other teams now seem willing to place on him to shut him down and psyche him out of the contest. I realise he might be carrying an injury too. But for me there was more to it than injury alone this year.

Physically, i have no doubts he could overcome any issues if he was willing to work hard for it. He obviously has in the past given some of the fine years he's produced prior to this year. And he no doubt has the talent.

Just not convinced he's capable upstairs anymore.....and they say that a big part of the game is played there.

Maybe Neeld can break this downer his on and help him through it with the right methods/processes/help etc. I guess we'll find out next year.

However, if he's just not happy at the Demons (and i'm not saying he isn't....just assuming given what i've seen this season...body language/attitude) it might be best for both Davey and us to look to trade him, provided we get very good value.

I think your right about it being in his head and the same with Davey but I am of the view that is much easier to fix.

    New coach new year.

  10. I dont believe he will have another year in the doldrums like this year.

He should get a 2 year deal and until otherwise advised he is the captain of the team I love.

As a supporter (a concept which involves the task of supporting our team and players) I am prepared to give it 120%.

Is anyone else prepared to give him a chance?

  11. Just want to write this and see what people think...

Brad Green has been a Melbourne player since 1999.

    He has played 241 games.

He has won games off his own boot.

He has ran with the flight of the ball and nearly killed himself more than once.

He turned down more money and success at Collingwood so he could remain a loyal one club player.

He has given everything that he possibly could of himself to the Melbourne Football Club.

However he had 1 bad year as a captain in 2010.

Brad Green may or may not be finished, next year will decide that.

But the fact that supporters of the Melbourne Football Club sit in judgement and declare he shouldn't be offered a deal and maybe he should retire is a disgrace.

So he wasn't a good captain... Wow then we should delist him.

What if Trengove is a bad captain and we suck in '12? What if Frawley is a bad captain and we suck in '12?

Just take the captaincy off Greeny, it isn't that hard and it is all the MFC need to do in regards to Green.... Just let him play care free again.

Whether he stays or goes, is good or bad, he at the very least deserves the slightest bit of respect.

Or do we want another James Mcdonald situation? Pay respect to the people who have come before and what they have done.

    +1

    and the same for Davey.

Proud and talented players who have the ability to rebound next year.

  12. Nigel Lappin - Geelong

Neeld wants diverse background with success. Lions star, IP at Geelong.

    He wants success and diversity.

Expect someone old and someone very new.

I'd bet he gave them a list before he took the job and we are a long way down the track.

  13. I think we need to used to the idea of talking about roles rather than positions with Neeld.

The gaps seem to me to be:

A forward the mids can aim for from the centre clearances. Role to get and trap the ball forward.

Two sets of inside mids (who are used to working in tandem),including a utility player who can play tall or small. We have one set at best.

Fast run through from the backline who can direct play. (quarterback as someone put it elsewhere).

  14. I have started preliminary work on the new banner (that is collecting images). It looks like Jamar, Jordie and Jones might get a gig. Also Moloney and Watts may get one too. Trenners is a certainty and i'm still tossing up whether Sylvia stays and I will await any announcement re: captaincy to see whether Greeny stays. Davey will most likely get dropped as will Grimes but for different reasons. Frawley will most likely stay too.

Very pleased to see Jones being selected he give his all to the club.

Moloney and Trenners are in the same camp.

    Our captain should be there.

  15. Good luck to Junior. We mismanged the situation.

That said I think this is a very poor decision on his part and it looks he has been sucked into the media vortex GWS are trying to create.

Assistant coach is a terrific opportunity, playing games is a very bad idea.

Gubby Allen and Sheedy should have a good long hard look at themselves in the mirror.
