  1. AFL drugs policy was always designed to hide the problem.

Always should be one strike/one week. That would stamp it out quick smart.

There is no doubt (like the rest of the community) drugs are a major problem. If the AFL wanted to show some leadership on a healthy lifestyle the policy would have changed long ago. In my opinion it a small microcosym of the control and command style at the AFL which worked so well for them with Essendon. Probably largely a problem of being the biggest fish in town. You sometimes see the same dynamic with other large organisations that dominate their space. When you have pretty much absolute power you lose perspective.

The AFL is not helping the players solve any problem they have they are just helping them hide it. It seems to me totally misguided. Time for a moratorium (to give players time to sort themselves out) and then introduce a no tolerance policy.

As much as I dislike Collingwood they are not on their pat here and its unfair to single them out when its known other clubs have the problem.

blimey i have never seen so many smiles. Who is that guy who look like Hogan, the one that's smiling like a Cheshire cat in every shot?

This is a different team to ones we have seen. Smiles all around. It feels very different to me and I hope that we carry it through the year.

  3. This is difficult as i think there will be a bunch in the middle (and I haven't compared draws whichmay be decisive).

Swans to slide (but they noe will paly all games at the SCG whihc is a big advantage for them). No idea about North or Ninthmond.

    West Coast

    Fremantle

    Hawthorn

    GWS

    Collingwood

    Bulldogs

    North Melbourne

    Richmond

    Swans

    Port

    Crows

    Melbourne

    Gold Coast

    St Kilda

    Brisbane

    Essendon

    Carlton

  4. What is pleasing is that we will get some confidence from it going into the season but perhaps better than the wins is that we have come from behind and then held onto our lead at the end. Just from watching I feel there is something different about the team this year in their attitude. A barometer for me has been the Garland head droop it seems to have almost entirely disappeared. (Jack watts also would adopt it in games but we dont see it much from him).

  5. "This is certainly a bit of a hiccup, something that he’s not happy about and neither are we,” said Tigers football manager Daniel Richardson."

    Hiccup? Not happy about?

Good grief, that sort of response is bewildering and in my view unacceptable from a club official.

The reported incident would terrify anyone.  Leaving it to the end of the week and a leadership group is inexcusable. If it were one of our players I would expect our President, Ceo, coach and leadership to deal with it immediately with a suspension, a futher public apology to the woman involved and a statement about the unacceptability of threatened voilence in particular voilence towards women.

That would be the bare minimum.

  6. Just looking at the video:

    McDonald

    Grimes

    Bugg

A tall slim figure that could be Oscar Mc

    Stretch

    Melksham

3 defenders - Garland, Dunn, Jetta coming in together.

    Harmes

Wouldn't have been fun in this wind.

Unless someone happened to be there I don't think we'll ever know detailed results from this one.

Interesting nice to see Bugg up there early and Grimes (something to prove this year?)

  7. Can he play forward?

    From an article about Oscar:

"He said this year would be focused on development.

“I do a lot of work with the backline group and at the moment I’m training a bit with the forward line group as well. They’re trying to develop me in both areas of the game and we’ll go from there.”

  8. Who are the Roos type players in the mix?

Given we have not done well with the lighter frame types and Roos preferences I would not be surprised if we picked Curnow before Parish and my smokey for our second pick would be Kieren Collins who looks to be a bit like Roos did as a player.

I of course have no idea and this is based on watching a couple of videos. I reserve the right to proclaim our picks as inspired and or lament our failure to pick Ollie.

  9. We will need some older players in the team and I agree with rfpc that its a Dawes/Pedersen compettion at the moment.

I like the idea of Dunn going forward as he is a competitor like Hogan and we need to take the pressure off him a bit. He can also swing in and out of the ruck.

With the interchange gone we will need players who are ready to play all day long. I have to admit Trengove is in as a sentimental pick at this stage I realy hope he makes it back.

    FB: Jetta McDonald Garland

    HB: Salem Frost Melksham

    C: Stretch Jones Brayshaw

    HF: Petracca Hogan Watts

    FF: Garlett Dawes Kent

    Foll: Gawn Vince Viney

    Int: Tyson Lumumba Dunn Trengove

  10. Melbourne will now take picks 3, 10 and 43 into the national draft, while they also secured Jake Melksham (Essendon) and Ben Kennedy (Collingwood) in this year's NAB AFL Trade Period.
The Dees have lost Howe to the Pies and Jimmy Toumpas to Port Adelaide.
    I believe we started with 6, 25, 43
    so it's
    OUT: Howe, Toumpas, 6, 25
    IN: Kennedy, Melksham, 3, 10
    yeah?

    Add Out: first round 2016

  11. What I like about the deal is that we are confident about where we will end up next year and that we think we can get 2 good players this year, it sends a positive message.

However the trade debt situation is one that concerns me a little, mainly out of my ignorance of next years crop and how it may affect our ability to attract an A grade player (or Prestia).

That said the club through Mahony articulated its plan and has got it done (other than Prestia). We are clearly going for youth and backing our ability to pick the right types (which we clearly did last year).

  12. Treloar video released by Collingwood a tad prematurely, dont suppose he says: "if you are viewing this I have been kidnapped and had surgery on my groin".

And still the AFL sits back trying its Jedi mind tricks, nothing to see here.
