  1. I thought they were making the sandwiches for the trade period. I dont think we should get Hibberd if all he wants is peanut butter as we need to be an allergy free team. Mahony is apparantly baking some sausage rolls as well always a winner.
  2. I have no idea about his talent but I am wary of any Essendon player who has been on the sideline. First I am not sure a year off is either mentally or physically a good thing for a player but their routine changes (the holiday pics only confirm this in my mind) and they start the off-season a long way behind everyone else. Second they must carry some mental baggage from the whole saga and there is no reliable precedent to judge how they will perform/react. The fact he doesn't want to go back suggests at least some baggage and having seen some ex Essendon players talk in the media its clear they still have real issues about the whole saga. Third we dont really know if the baseline of their previous performance was affected by the program at Essendon. Finally Goodwin maintaining a connection to his Essendon days just seems to me to be a bad idea. He needs to build something new with his team at Melbourne and find other players with the qualities he requires (and admired in some players at Essendon). So I would not like to be giving up a pick to get someone with all those issues. Its hard enough being an AFL player. If we get him gratis so be it. We have taken a risk with Melksham and I see no need to double down now.
  3. Funny how the circle turns I grew up with a particualr view of his name but now it seems a virtue, a hard at it player.
  4. Why would anyone trade for a player at risk of disqualification (however short)? Just doesn't make sense to do it.
  5. I'd expect Gawn to be signed up in the next Month.
  6. Just reading the tea leaves here but I think we are really into Brayshaw which is why we cant get the deals done because we want to hold onto pick 2. I suspect if we had pick 1 it would be used on Brayshaw by Roos (he has mentored him this year as has Alistair Clarkson).
  7. Saints going to trade for 3 picks in the top 21 so there is no certainty that he will fall to us at 2. Given that announcement and Roos views on the draft we can expect that our picks will be traded.
  8. This may be worth a thread on its own but can we get rid of Bradshaw from the commentary. He drives me nuts saying the obvious and the down right wrong. At least chappelli can blame his age for his failings, his anti sledging rant in which he claimed it didn't happen on his watch was breath taking. Anyone else want Bradshaw removed?
  9. For the record the full quote is above. I am a supporter of Cale but like most can get frustrated at the so called coach killers in any game. It was intended in a light hearted way to make the point errors like that are still in the team and we need to concentrate on them. I think the last time I saw a TV about to go out a window it was my brother picking it up after one J Stynes ran across a certain mark. Stynes made my brother and I eat our words in the years that followed. If anyone knows Cale tell him I am positive he can prove us TV throwers wrong and I am happy to be identified if need be as I see nothing wrong with my remarks (if they had been quoted in full).
  10. Morton played well (apart from the bit where I had to throw the TV out the window!). Sure Neeld gave him a deserved serve but then moved on. For us as a team its all about eliminating those errors. Its not just Cale. Yesterday we had several examples, Blease running one too many steps, Sellar weak handpasses, and a few others kicking poorly for a turnover. McDonald is another example of someone who has had a few massive blunders but is going to be a long term asset down back.
  11. Kennett going helps the hawks ability to retain him. The question for him maybe whether its a long term proposition. The hawks will not offer 5 years. He will remember the pressure he was under after they slumped after the premiership year. He might relish building a dynasty as against a closing window for the Hawks. Then there is the Bomber Thompson factor, the opportunity to go back to his spiritual home with his best mates and work was just too tempting. That said they are still in the window and he might want to make the most of it. We can think of all sorts of reasons but what I like about this is that it says we are not going to be left wondering and yes we are serious about getting the best not just on offer but the best where ever they may be. It may make Malthouse rethink his position. I like it and even if it fails its a great strategy for rebuilding the club. "whatever it takes" This will have a significant impact on the playing group knowing we are not going to settle for whatever we can get.
  12. Rumour has it once we win 6 flags in a row, and Gary Lyon is the CEO of the NINE network, the AFL will in 2020 move the "traditional Anzac day" clash between The Dees and Gold Coast to the newly constructed Hotham stadium. Vlad will say: "Sure its cold there but our latest expansion team plays in Singapore and its bloody hot there."
  13. Shouldn't this thread be called "we have a bye this weekend" , so who you gunna call. I am off on a holday to make the most of the 2 week recess. Range Rover are you skiing?
