  1. These are the tools for tanking.
  2. Are we to judge the Geelong v Melb game based on win/loss over the past two weeks? What's the case for defeating St. Kilda? I can see a case for the other games (although that doesn't mean I think we're likely to win them). Defeating Sydney is not beyond the realms of possibility.
  3. I agree with Dunstall - I don't think we're best served by playing Jurrah as a key forward. He'll be far more damaging playing on the third best defender.
  4. Jurrah's a great third tall. Who are our first and second talls? You might be in two minds about Robbo but whichever way you lean he's nearing the end. You've decided Martin's better in defence. Miller's not getting a gig in what's been the bottom side, while Newton seems even further away. We're banking on Watts making it, and assuming he does that's one. Who's the second (let alone what happens if Watts somehow doesn't make it)?
  5. I understand that rationale, but the truth is that our win was driven by guys who aren't in danger of being culled at the end of the year.
  6. We've played quite well in most matches - ignore our slump which began on QB and we've generally given a competitive effort. However, it's not like we're suddenly a form side of the comp. Who have we beaten the past two weeks? Two interstate sides who have travelled to the 'G. West Coast are fellow strugglers this season and Port's got a terrible record away. I don't think Wheatley had much influence on the game and Robbo's impact wasn't game-breaking - I think he's put in better efforts this season. I agree - it's a massive concern. The coach can't say that! However, what the coach can do is pull moves at selection and during the game which will make it likely we won't win.
  7. I agree with the gist of what you're saying. Fwiw, PJ won the Liston a few years back.

    Paul Wheatley

Whether because of decision making or execution, Bell doesn't consistently hit targets. EDIT: If he did his career wouldn't be at the crossroads.
  9. I disagree. Out of interest, how many of the players you're referring to were instrumental in our win today? EDIT: Apparently these were named as the best for us on AFL.com.au: 'Melbourne: Bruce, Jurrah, McLean, Petterd, Moloney, Jamar, Green, Frawley'.

    Paul Wheatley

I don't mind Wheatley but if he's out of contact at the end of the year I think he's finished. Given he's injury-prone and getting on in age I don't think he gives us enough that other younger players can't. Hrm.
  11. 19,345 on the back of last week's win.
  12. Sorry about the delay http://forums.demonland.com/index.php?show...5610&hl=tax
  13. Not me - that would be my last preference
  14. I agree. I think it shows nicely why we're further away than some would like to admit.
  15. Not that I particularly care (my 2009 one is still in the plastic), but... ...
  16. We've smashed our membership record in consecutive years as a cellar dweller and, as you've pointed out, signed up two major sponsors in the midst of a severe financial downturn. The debt won't be fixed by a fifth win this season and neither will the mood of supporters. In fact, I suggest 'winning' Scully will do more for our debt and memberships than an extra win or two.
  17. ...and that's why I never said the errors were a major concern - just disagreed that his disposal v Essendon and Brisbane was 'very good' Absolutely. He's very promising.
  18. Grimes had a very good game this week. Did anyone else love his play on the wing, southern side? I liked the attitude that play reflected - he decided we needed to get moving and he was the one to do it. Exciting stuff. I've only seen one other game this week but I think he's a very good chance of nabbing the nomination. After the game I heard on MMM that his DE was very good and Frawley talked up his kicking. However, on ABC two commentators mentioned - in passing - that Grimes had made a few errors. As the ABC commentators alluded to, there were a couple of issues and one in particular was characteristic of his errors over recent weeks. One mistake that I think is characteristic of his errors over the past few matches occurred in the last quarter. Grimes was coming inboard from the defensive flank, southern side. He wasn't under much pressure but seemed to just take the kick easy and failed to nail the pass. Given the circumstances in which his turnovers seem to happen I think it's a concentration thing. His technique seems very good and if he can iron out those errors he'll be a very damaging player.
  19. I know what you were responding to and agree that there's no obligation for him to share details. I simply stated that Azz was right - he was vague about what was wrong with him.
  20. First post updated with info. Maybe you listened to a different press conference to me and AzzKika. He specifically said he would not go into the diagnosis and didn't offer any specific details.
  21. Indeed, and they also had the star player of the comp in Carey.
