I think the jury's still out, and will continue to be out until this time next year. Bailey might not be a great match day coach but when all he can do is shuffle deck chairs on the Titanic it's hard to say. Haha. I hope they explained that they'd put Bailey under the same blowtorch if he was in the fifth year of his five-year plan.

Fwiw, you didn't say 'only when they are returing from injury', and it's certainly not the only time someone's just come in for one game. While - as I said - it's generally correct it's certainly not always the case and a few other people on here have mentioned similar comments to you regarding Bailey giving players extended runs (including the man himself). I don't think Valenti's the only example - just the most recent - and I don't think he'll be the last either.
-
While Bailey's made comments along those lines, and it's generally the case, didn't Valenti get dropped after coming in for one game just a few weeks ago?
-
Indeed. Fwiw, I think the snow comments are pretty lame but if you buy into the stereotypes of the other teams you don't really have a leg to stand on IMO.
-
A win. I'm not going to get fussy when these opportunities don't come around very often With 18 teams you could expect to win just 4 premierships in 72 years - a sobering thought.

Sloppy, but a relatively easy mistake. I've almost written it a few times and I'm sure I imagine I might take a greater interest in Melbourne and how their 'reserves' are going than Nialls.

While the view on his form is pretty positive on Demonland, he got three votes in the 'bad ones' on MMM last week.

Most media interviews are snores, and if there's ever a good one you don't need to have seen it because it'll be noteworthy enough that people will talk about it.

Aren't domestic full-fee places being abolished? I'm sure he'll pass VCE and achieving an average ENTER score is little barrier to tertiary entry - it can just make it more of a process. Given that even if Watts did not make it in AFL footy he'd be in the system for a few years, and thus be eligible for mature-age entry into uni, his ENTER score is probably largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Taking a couple of Open Uni units - which he could do while playing footy - and getting a decent average will give you access to most courses, and there are a variety of other alternative pathways (ie. STAT tests, TAFE pathways, etc.). That said, whether he's playing senior footy or at Casey he's still going to be playing matches on the weekends and training during the week so there's probably not a huge difference in terms of time (apart from the extra hype associated with his debut).

65,000. Hopefully you think the same of Hawthorn supporters - reference their 11K at the 'G a few years ago vs 50K members now. I'm sure I can find similar examples for every other sporting side going around. I like your reasoning. I'll take 65,032.

If it's once or twice a year I think it'd retain its special event status. I agree. With regards playing AFL matches there as is, the game's passed the point where only 10 blokes get a seat at a game. The gist of the message is 'Watts is playing, so come to the game'. It's understandable if they targetted that at local members, given the costs involved. Definitely seems like a stumbling block. However, it'd be interesting to know what the stipulation was, as someone pointed out in a thread recently. It might be defined as a new stadium in Victoria or maybe it's a new stadium in Melbourne, x kms from Docklands, etc.

Understandable sentiment but it doesn't necessarily mean the game won't attract attention for the right reasons too. First, I have no doubt the fact it's QB has been a factor. Second, given our (on-field) circumstances I'm not particularly fussed if we decided to play him this week, rather than give him another one or three games at Casey (btw, anyone else still think of Sandy first when talking about our 'reserves'). I'm all for less of the mega-threads for this reason, so I won't be moving it

Strawman argument right there... It's got nothing to do with 'sticking up for members of our team' - I never commented on the issue. What I did comment on was your comment regardingposters and their football ability and experience. Falling back on the 'how many games have you played?' argument (or a derivative) weakens any point you're trying to make because it's inconsequential and irrelevant. Anyhow, I'm sure people are more interested in Watts debuting this week

Whether we need a ruckman and whether we should use a early pick are two different kettles of fish. IMO we need more rucks because ours aren't good enough. However, I'd rather take punts on rookies/low picks every year while also keeping an eye out for a decent trade opportunity. I made a post about how the two main rucks from each side came into the system a season or two ago and most were not early draft picks.
-
Regardless of the modifier, you slipped in a variation on the old 'how many games have you played' chestnut. To use another old chestnut, 'you're better than that'.

Afaik our entire staff can't fit at OP now (let alone as [edit: our staff numbers] grow), so we'll have footy staff there and admin in the Southern Stand.

I think you're playing at semantics - his point still stands. Whether you're any good at footy's irrelevant IMO, I mean everyone criticises films but no one I know has created a film featured at Cannes or starred in a hollywood blockbuster.

I think we're short one tall forward atm, so even if we retain Miller a tall would be handy. Cheney, Newton, Dunn and Robertson seem to be the likely inclusions*. Leaving Robertson out of the QB match would be a big message from the selection committee. When Newton comes back I'd like to see him told that his efforts have granted him an extended run in the senior side, providing he works hard - he needs some nurturing if he's ever going to put it together at senior level. I can't see Jurrah getting an AFL game any time soon. I'd say Hughes would be ahead of him in the pecking order and not a bad 'roughie' for selection in the coming weeks though. *'Watts that you say?'

^ Yeah, I think 'Hutchy' is a decent media performer. I don't particularly like his false bravado though, and I find his Footy Classifieds persona grating. I find it odd that you think it's strange people would want to know what the lass looks like after a thread was created to point out she's good-looking. I'd understand if the thread was created after someone spotted her out and about, but her identity/image is hardly a secret - it was broadcast on national television. I'd also understand if you had an issue along the lines of objectifying her, but given your reply - 'Barts !!! BLOODY HELL' - it seems you don't, so your position seems inconsistent.

By my clock it's around 33 mins out. Your guess is on the money. Userid's aren't re-allocated while the registered members tally doesn't include deleted members.

MFC Flash Mob - calling all supporters!!!!!
Rogue replied to demons_rule's topic in Melbourne Demons
Indeed, I'm not sure how the idea of getting some people at the footy to sing chants got mixed up with a flash mob -
25 disposals for Jamar - impressive It sounds like Newton's kicking for goal was diabolical, which is a shame - six shots is an acceptable return, but you need to make the most of them.

Geez, they're missing out with you guys. First not signing you up to a higher value m/ship, now this. No 45, hey? :< I reckon 16's a good replacement though.
