  1. ABC probably has the most accurate and informative radio commentary but if I don't care about the game - ie. Melbourne aren't playing - then Triple M are quite entertaining if they don't get too involved in the ego wars. I can't stand Rex Hunt so 3AW is out. I might complain about the commentary at times but it's interesting to see how the quality falls away when you're listening to an interstate match, or even a less popular timeslot (ie. Saturday night). Surely there aren't that few decent callers...
  2. Exactly. If someone's not in the best 22 you need a very good reason to keep them on. Generally, that reason is that you feel they have the potential to be a best 18 player. When you're rebulding the list, as we are, I don't see the need to keep fringe players who you feel have limited upside. If we were 'in the window' there might be some justification for doing so (ie. keep a spare tall to give ruck depth).
  3. Another thing we should probably be mindful of is that we'll need to turn over x number of players in the next few years of heavily compromised drafts. With most of our older players departing this year it'll leave a quite young list and there won't be too much natural attrition over the next few years. How long are the significant draft concessions going to go for?
  4. Is Valenti a best 22 player in a good side? Does Valenti have the potential to be a best 18 player in a good side?
  5. What's sad is that Bruce's "lovers" deride any criticism of him as somehow inspired by Y_M, taking pot shots at other posters instead of considering whether they might be making a valid point.
  6. Is Moloney going to be in our best 18/22 for the entirety of his career? It might get messy if we need or want to hand on the captaincy while he's still relatively young.
  7. What's being an average player got to do with getting the top coaching position? The days of playing coaches are over. Anyway, Scott was hardly in the same league as a Bailey or Clarkson, who achieved far less on the football field. I assume you mean last real opportunity for this year..? According to some reports he doesn't want it. Anyhow, what's going on with Harvey and Freo? Surely he's in the gun. Maybe the Club decided there were too many roles up for grabs this year.
  8. It's not like we have so many fit players that we can't fit 'the kids' in if we play Wheels, Wheatley and Robertson. I highly doubt Wheatley will be fit though. It seems you're changing tack - in your earlier posts in this thread it was all about letting go of sentiment.
  9. Green for mine. That said, when you're not in the inner sanctum you don't know about so much that is relevant to the decision. IMO Green leads by example in each game he plays.
  10. Reilly's an interesting one - is he a Victorian? As others have said, Seaby would be halting the development of our young rucks by taking up a spot in the side. If you want to throw VFL at me, remember that PJ won the Liston a few years back. McKinley is hardly a Roughead/Kosi type!
  11. Some people really ride the wave week-to-week.
  12. When was the last time Robertson was our 3rd tall? EDIT: Maybe if you're ordering them by height, sure.
  13. I certainly don't think he's one of our best users of the footy, but each to his own. It's odd that you assert that pace might be an issue for him depending on what position he'll play but then claim that it's not really a valid cause for concern, while going on to say the only valid concern is finding a position for him! If you think that his pace limits the roles he can fill and that the valid cause for concern is finding a role for him then surely it is a valid concern *shrug
  14. I reckon there's more than 10 at Richmond that you just couldn't touch - does that count?
  15. Given the odds of winning a premiership are decreasing with every new side introduced to the AFL (it's currently 1/16, will be 1/18 soon) and the fact we haven't won a flag since '64, I absolutely agree. I'm glad you had a great day. Unfortunately the only positive I can remember from the 2000 grand final - and it's a very, very small one - is when a few bays of Essendon supporters to the left went wild when they thought Lloyd had kicked yet another goal. He'd only kicked a point and a couple of Demons supporters jeered. I definitely think that flag was a bonus. They should have a better list in a couple of years. 2011 at the latest? You've gotta be kidding me. That impies we should be contending before 2011, ergo 2010 - next year. There's no way we'll be a flag contender next year. We're going to lose another few senior players who, although past their best, are probably more productive/reliable. With a young list and inexperienced players forced to take on leading roles we're going to be somewhat inconsistent. I also don't think we'll be a legit contender the following year either. The talent will be coming through, sure, but a bunch of players who will form the core of our next decent side will still be learning the game at senior level.
  16. At least we have official confirmation. Interesting that Robbo hasn't been included in our announcement though... I think that there's a middle-ground between adulation and taking a stab at someone and that shouldn't be lost just because the player is retiring. Btw, I don't think you actually know who was moderating what so I'm not sure how you can make that call...
  17. Indeed. Why run a guy down for trying to get another year or years of AFL?
  18. The fact that his future with the Dees is over is still as news-worthy IMO, regardless of whether it's 'end of a career' or 'hoping for a repreive'.
  19. Haha In all seriousness, it's a great way for the MFC to get an idea of what the supporter sentiment is.
  20. A bit disappointing, yeah. I wonder whether the other players etc knew (assuming the guys in question were told a week ago). I can understand why we might not have wanted to announce it when we made our decision but once the news broke you'd think we'd want something out there official. Of course, this is all assuming it is indeed true.
  21. I didn't see anything wrong with your post - you certainly weren't abusive or over-the-top. As someone said, I guess in the defence of the rep you can get a bit 'numb' to it or perhaps their dog just died etc. However, I do agree with you regarding even a scripted thanks response - it's a small thing, sure, but that's what customer service is all about. I've been employed in a somewhat similar circumstance and whether it's $10 or $250 the response is always the same.
  22. I think there was one of these threads a while ago, so if someone can provide a link to it that might be interesting. Anyway, I think it's an interesting exercise and I'll take a stab when I've got some time. Has the OP posted his 10 yet? Rivers and Warnock are both born in 1984 so age isn't really a consideration IMO. I'm also not sure that Rivers has much more of an attacking side to his game than Warnock and I also don't think Jared can play the same or similar role to Warnock. Maybe Rivers just needs to get back to something approaching full fitness, but I think Warnock's a better player atm. There might be valid concerns about his disposal, pace and where he's going to find his niche. I disagree. For starters, I think Davey'd find a spot in the 22 of either grand finalist this year. If Green was fit and in form I think he'd be handy, particularly with the decreased attention he'd get playing alongside some very good players. etc.
