  2. Based on this I always believed we should have traded big for Yze at the time. He still had some to give but we could have landed something better. I used to hate Yze's manager everytime it was up for recontract he would threaten to leave for more dough and then the year after a contract extension he would drop back off. Remember those headlines about Yze wanting out. Melbournes list management at the time was extremely poor given we really overpaid for players like Woey, Yze, TJ when they never really delivered at the top level. How we ever got to the situation of giving away Powell and paying someone to take Woey off us was really poor. But hey its all easy in hindsight...hope we get it right this time!!
  3. speaking to cc at the function he said that Garland is going to be totally fine this year.
  4. Dont worry mate plenty of ridiculous hysterical posts around that far out do yours lol!! I think at the end of the day we are all on the same page!! Lets smash em next year! Your point re Taylor is a good one CC said it was between him and Fitzpatrick for 50 but they just couldnt believe Fitzy got through to 50 so had to take him....
  5. Agreeing alot with rpfc this morning.... Pickering has no idea at all.... Cant wait til we are winning games again these people will just shut up and go sook about someone else.
  6. Again is there a reason why 16 clubs over looked him and all of a sudden we now have to have him??? Dont hype Matthew 'who' he was not good enough and is a speculative pick whoever gets him.... Take Joel any day...he is going to really give the team some much needed mature body playing in defence amongst all our up and comers.
  7. Agree rpfc... This thread again has a simple answer. Yes it is good enough not by a little bit...by a long way. This year our defence will be more settled and followers will see progress on the potential. The important part of this year is the defence learns how to really gel together - and they will....
  8. I read and laughed this morning in the HUN where they have graded each clubs draft. Apparently we got an A, North and Syd got A+, I sure hate the HUN sometimes... How the hell is that possible when we recruited to the best 2 players by far? Im sure 15 other clubs would have swapped their drafts for ours in a heartbeat... As for the other clubs I did think North had a great draft as did the Cats given their picks were quite low....
  9. Yes I was also thinking a taller version of Chris Heffernan....
  10. Tappy will turn it on at the G from 60 kicking over defensive zones and crashing packs at half forward to open up the game for others. Oh I just cannot wait!!
  11. Agreed BD those party pies were like finding water in the desert! I just think he is going to be fantastic cant wait to see the top 4 picks in action!!!
  12. Im interested that people are panicing re this issue. Fringe players seem to be imo copping it sweet without alot of justification apart from a throw away line such as 'they've had their chance.' The club knows exactly whats its doing. They are all over the detail. To now take aim at Healy I dont think is right - not all players can be a gun in their first years of footy. We need to be considered with our decisions. Hughes has been around for a while and had numerous chances to push from the lower level. Im not sure why he is still there but the club obviously thought he was worth a spot when they put him on the rookie list.... Lets not assume that players such as Patrick, Grimes or Panos are any better than what we already have just because they are flavour of the month. Reflect on the fact many on these boards wanted Patrick at 34 yet no club actually rated him good enough to get picked at all. Same goes for Temmel.... Given the hysteria on the boards it was interesting to hear BP say that Patrick is a rookie at best and really is no where near Jurrah. So lets relax and see where the FD goes with Newt and Meese but to take aim at those who havent really had an op imo is not overly fair. Rohan Bail is another who I have heard some bashing on. In fact while talking to BP at the function a Rohan basher came in and said, 'Rohan Bails gotta go doesnt he? To which BP said no he'll be ok let him develop we will see. Time to settle and be strategic - take the emotion out and work within the rules to maximise what we have.
  13. Just to reiterate that BP was 'estatic' he was still available at 50. BP actually told me he was very close to taking him at 34 except that another steal named Gawn was there. He is a big kid and although a slider - still speculative. BP said he will be a forward first with some stints in the ruck. CC referred to his CFS and said it would be fine the club knew exactly what to do with him to ensure he was ok. They already had the whole thing planned...
  14. I'm not singling you out grant but this thread is just driving me insane. It's actually really really simple! bp loved gysberts more than anyone else in the draft at that pick. Regardless of size or anything that's who he rated. Bp wasn't even sure he would still be there at 11. If he was he was always going to take him. I myself went to the draft function thinking we needed a tall at 11. But when our head of recruiting who should know what he is doing says he didn't rate any tall in the draft bar butcher, then I trust him to know. I am continually amazed at all these posts that people seem to know recruiting better than our team. We all need to have faith in our team. They put themselves on the line with each selection well aware history will judge their work. I hope everyone gets over the issue and moves onto getting stuck into reviewing training and progress of the team rather than lamenting on personal opinions that are often based on others opinions. Go the dees!!!!
  15. bp said last night his dad was absolutely mad Melbourne and in meetings was so red hot for his son to play for us. Ben apparently also wanted to play for us. On the topic bp said he also got a call sat night from Liam Patrick saying hawks had said they were goin to take him in the draft. He was anxious and told bp he really wanted to come to Melbourne.
  16. bp said he thought he was perfect fit as he provided us w another great kick but also he is a collision player. He loves to get in and bang bodies. We don't have many of those so he will be a great fit.
  17. agreed trengoves sister jess ran 3rd in the zatopek 10k last year. That's just freaky and yes they really are a very good liking family!!
  18. just remembering singing it's a grand old flag w cc cam schwab and scully, trenners and Jordy up on stage the whole rm singing it to welcome the boys and their families.... Just sensational.... I really can't help thinking what a great impression we gave those boys n their families tonight. One last quote from schwabby .... Having dinner tonight at the g w scully and trengove he said ...,,"this is our home ground,we built this!" raahhh go dees!! Get me out there I wanna rub through a brick wall!!!!
  19. Hi team, I have put the detail of bp's theory of j gysberts selction on Barry dawsons thread about the night. However I will say to this thread. Melbourne fd rated one and only 1 tall in the draft. It was butcher. Therefore they went for best available who they believe is going to make the best afl footballer. They went for gysberts due to size in the packs to clear paths for our smaller players. When it came to tapscott the choice was him or black and it went to tapscott as quite simply as bp put it he is the better footballer clearly. Melb fc felt all other talls in the draft were speculative and therefore wanted to use later picks. Bp said you can never have too many midfielders like I think whispering said earlier bp is very much thinking of us along the Geelong lines with alot of flexible mid fielders who can go forward. He really really liked fitzpatrick and love the way he leads up. Thinks he could be a steal as he really argued with the other recruiters on his team about taking him at 34 but then thought of gawn and fitzy that fitz would be more likely to get to 50.
  20. just got home don't want to name drop but walked out over heard David neitz talking about hearing good things about Jack viney! Not the first time I heard that tonight as cc mentioned him as well. If you don't mind BD I'll add my spin from the night.... Db said re Luke ball he was not part of our blue sky plans as soon as he decided to enter to nd. We wanted him for free in the psd but not at a cost of a younger player coming through. Bp laughed and stated it was all a ploy to get him picked as early as possible. In fact although it wasn't televised bp said he purposely wanted lb to [censored] himself and play to the theatre of the moment by pausing after saying "Luke" at pick 18 lol then adding tapscott. Hoping ball would have stressed out lol. Bp said it was between the 3 bd mentioned above for pick 11 however he really just loves gysberts. Bp is a big believer in "pack size" like rugby and wanted to add a player who can clear paths in a pack to open it up for scully and blease etc who are smaller. Gysberts marking ability at his height was also a factor given he can swing forward and kick goals. Gysberts himself stated his strengths are decision making and kicking. In a great moment his dad wad lost for words and cc asked him who do you barrack for and his dad said up to an hour ago ...collingwood....now it's go dees! Gysberts said he wanted to play for Melbourne all along. Trengoves mum asked tapscotts mum who Luke wanted to play for he also said Melbourne. Bp said Andrew Moore desperately wanted to play for melbourne. So guess what all .... All the old guys may not want to play for us but all the young guys do!! They can see how good our future looks! Bp said Liam Patrick is no where near as good as made out and no where near jarruh. He couldn't believe his luck when gawn was still there at 34 and fitzpatrick who he said he wanted at 34 was still there at 50 he was estatic!! Jack watts spoke very well he just presents in such a positive manner. I couldn't help but feel the charisma. He draws people to him much like neitz also did all night. Scully also is just the ultimate professional. Cc said he has known he was going to melb since September. Liam jurrah has put on 8 kgs along with watts who has been training while everyone else had their break. Blease and Strauss are coming along and will play this year. Db was speaking and some idiot was giving it to him from the crowd which wad very poor. Db pointed at the guy and said I'm not askin I'm tellin ya... U be patient with this team we are going to be the envy of other clubs. He talked about the fact he didn't just want a window ...he wants bi fold doors as the size of the opportunity.... To which of course got huge applause. Overall it was a wonderful night. The fox coverage made no difference as cc talked us through every demon pick before it wad made. The fd are delighted to get the mids with the first 4 picks and to get the speculative talls with the late picks. Job well done bp and the fd. And may I say what a fantastic person cc really is. He is the momentum that is driving our club forward. The families of the draftees love him and he just adds so much to our club. He was a super presenter. I'm inspired I wish the first game was tomorrow. Go dees!!!!!!
  21. all good team as I said let's heal as a club ( yes RR you too!) now back to the thread...do we take ball or hope we get a Daniel Kerr? Not many Kpp taken with these picks in the past and those taken are average at best.... I'm thinking green machine might be onto something.... I hope cc bp db read this...lol
  22. I now have a thread on history of picks - you can decide if you would have rather those that were picked during the last ten years or take ball....
  23. onya Rhino! you're too good - all that time I spent only to be shut down without a whimper..... Even the Lotto article doesnt move you!
  24. If you read my thread on the history of the picks we have GMs arguement is backed by the data. The likelihood of getting a good mid at these picks is far higher than a tall....
