Welcome to Demonland Pick 37
Out to 38 at the moment. 17 picks between 22 and our selection. Barnett, George, Cowan, Ryan, Charlie Clarke, Hayes, Hotton, Hustwaite, Keeler, Burgiel, Gruzewski, Gilbey, Gallagher, Magor some of the more prominent names. I doubt there's anyone we'd put a first rounder on the table for. Second rounder to move up we'd look at but it's possible clubs will put better 2nd rounders on the table than ours.

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
I wonder if we secretly had more interest in Hewett and tried to keep it quiet. He might’ve been the great result JT was talking up. That or Allan going earlier and Hollands or Buss sliding. The guys who went in the rest of the first round weren’t really ready to go prospects either, at least in positions of need anyway.

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
I meant home grown as in drafted, not local

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson
El Jefe Dont love it, don’t hate it. But if we have it right we could have a pair of home grown key forwards for a decade which would be exciting

Bailey Humphrey
I don’t agree on Dusty’s kicking, could use both feet and be super smooth. Makes mistakes because he’s high risk/reward But Humphrey is in that mold as a super powerful, evasive and creative mid/forward. His power bursts through the screen, not sure what people lamenting his highlights are watching. Probably most similar to De Goey but without the off field drama.

GAMEDAY: AFLW GRAND FINAL
Agreed. She’s been very good with the occasional stuff up all home and away season. Probably found the pressure a little hot the first 2 finals but came in to the games. Today she was on from the start.

AFLW Grand Final Venue
Turf conditions looked far better than a lot of afl/w games. Remember round 1 v Adelaide? Not sure on facilities but it was very pretty and looked a lovely mix of stands and hills. The only issue was 8,000 just isn’t enough for a grand final. Perfect for home and away up to prelims, but for grand finals they need to get closer to 15,000. They’ll need a way to erect temporary stands like at the Grand Prix to get to that capacity. Otherwise future Queensland aflw grand finals need to be at the Gold Coast if the Gabba isn’t available.

GAMEDAY: AFLW GRAND FINAL
They had 5 in the 22 under 22 to our 2 as well. Tahlia Gillard didn’t even make the squad. Today, she shut Wardlaw completely out of the game.

Optus, Adelaide oval, neutral matches at the Sydney Showgrounds, Casey fields and now Springfield. The Dees have many homes.

I agree, and I do think trades will come in to it if the order starts to deviate in that 6-10 range.

Dees considering big trade plays
JT talked about addressing multiple needs with our picks, more than just a tall forward, and Ryan would certainly provide cover for the loss of Hunt and replace Hibbo long term as a medium defender. We could do with that combination of speed, run and good height for a flanker. Could be a wing option too. I don’t think a skinny frame would prevent him being ready to push his case quickly given his role, so he’d be a fun pick up.

Dees considering big trade plays
You don’t want first rounders to pay for academy players. You trade out of your first rounders and pay for the points with 2nd and 3rds which I believe GC have already started stocking up on. They’ll try to load up on picks in the 30’s to match a haul similar to Ashcroft and Fletcher this year.

Dees considering big trade plays
Not a knock on Flash, he changed the game with his run down tackles and paved the way for a generation of tackling smalls. But then he became a midfielder. Cyril had more physicality to his tackling and maybe a touch more ability to come from all angles, where as Davey was the kind of the chase down. I agree, if Davey had the luxury of playing forward in a winning side his entire career he'd be rated higher.

Phantom Drafts Thread 2022
For a long while I called key forwards drafted outside the first round key defenders in waiting. But Lewis and Larkey have bucked that trend. Another option is Tom Scully, a proven goal kicker and a late birth day. Plenty of height to counter out not being the greatest mover. Would be worth it for the jokes as well. https://www.afl.com.au/news/856829/kevin-sheehans-2022-nab-afl-draft-top-prospects-tall-forwardsrucks Will Elliott could be a big chance too. His brother is looking good on debut for the Vics. Athletic pedigree. Skills. Could be a bit like Georgiades in 2019, with teams not so worried about the missing draft year.

Dees considering big trade plays
I sat behind Dogs supporters who called Buku Khamis as CJ. Their own freaking player! But if you’re going to be racist idiots I’d say labelling Pickett as one of the greatest small forwards of all time and the best defensive small I’ve seen, isn’t very effective.

You can catch it all on the afl exchange podcast feed. Talked about needs v best available. Seemed to be weighing needs quite a bit, but more so at later picks. Confident they’ll be a good player at 37. Has a possible great result at pick 13 and another good result based on their scenarios. Seemed to be that was if using the pick rather than trading. Didn’t deny key forward was a need. But I get the feeling tall back, ruck and possibly inside 50 kicker might be seen as needs just as much.

Lamb was a talent spotter under JT, I’m sure it’s a collaborative effort to value future picks and trade players, but then JT is ultimately in charge of the draft board. I hope they’re collaborating with analytics, coaches, factoring in the salary cap and so on. From what I’ve seen of nfl draft rooms (which is where the afl usually borrows from) teams usually have multiple people set up with phones allocated to various teams. And they’ll try to use previous relationships if possible. But it highlights why teams often have to have deals lined up before the draft, there’s a lot of chaos on the night.
