Didn't see it, but now I'm totally confused. Yesterday morning she said she was lying all along. Then on the 7pm Project, she said she lied about lying? So, does that mean she is sticking with her original story or has she changed her mind? Who'd know! Has anyone seen the movie Wild Things (Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Denise Richards). Maybe there is a bit of this sort of thing happening; they get together, make up a scandal, after several twists and turns (ie Duthie's media payments and Nixon suing the AFLPA), they all sit back with piles of money and pour champagne all over each other (doesn't sound anywhere near as hot with those 2 doing it as opposed to Neve Campbell and Denise Richard - if you've seen it, you'll know what I mean!!!).

That's terrific then Fork. I'm not going the early crow on them, only becuase I don't want to be disappointed. I've said from day 1 that I doubted Gysberts, but he's fast proving me wrong! I have also been the driver of the Stef Martin bandwagon for many years, so you get some right, and not others! Where I get a bit frustrated with supporters is when they start putting names in that potential A-grade list that don't have any right being there. That's not to say that they can't make it, it's just being realistic! Petterd is the classic example.

Shows I don't take any interest in the Logies whatsoever!

The thing that really impressed me was his awareness of our players, and his field kicking. Some of his passes, one in praticular to Green when he played on in the goal square/nearly stuffed it up, that pass of Howe's was perfect. His 2nd and 3rd efforts were great too. I just want to ask him how he felt when we walked off. Was he totally stuffed? Almost? Regardless of how he felt, he has to do those 2nd and 3rd effort things every week. Missing targets will happen through pressure, etc. Not laying a sheppard or not tackling hard/hitting a contest hard should never happen. If he can assure he does these things each week, he will not find himself out of the side very often at all.

Benno, the RL Footy Show is nothing compared to what it was 5 years ago. The AFL one has won the last how many logies? The NRL one lost me when they got rid of The Chief, Matty Johns and Sterlo. Those days were some of the funniest TV moments I have ever seen. The only footy shows (of any code) I watch now are ones on Fox, and the Channel 7 one of a Sunday morning.

Great idea for a thread. I think you have hit the nail of the head with your 12 selections. Realistically, we need at least 8 of these players to reach that A-grade level. You would think some are a pretty safe bet (Scully, Trengove, Watts, Frawley, Grimes and Jamar). If we can get the likes of Gysberts, Tapscott and McKenzie up to that level, as well as an injury-free Garland, we're well on our way. No other player, especially from our younger brigade (under 24's) deserves a spot on that list at this stage. It will then be up to the likes of Cook, Fitzpatrick, Martin, Blease, Strauss, Morton, Bennell, Maric, Nicholson, Evans, Howe and Petterd to get to good, solid B-Grade status.

Sorry Jarka, my source is the man himslef. There is constant speculation from many people, but out of everyone that has spoken, which includes Maher, McGuire, etc, the one person I trust the most out of all of them is Scully. Some will think it's keeping my head in the sand, I don't believe that is case at all. He instructed the Club what he intended to do late last year. So far, to the best of my knowledge, he hasn't deviated off that line, and I have faith in him, and by the looks of it, so too does the MFC. I just fail to see what he would achieve by lying. If he has already signed, his pay would no doubt have been agreed on so form wouldn't be a factor. I'm sure the Club would keep playing him knowing how important he is for us over the next 10 or so weeks. He has absolutely nothing to gain by lying thorugh that press conference. He wanted to focus on his football this year, and unluckily for him and us, it has been interupted. With us sitting 1/2 game outside the 8, I want him to do whatever he needs to to help see us playing finals at the end of the year. One other thing they said on 360 last night was that it was believed Scully was knocking on the door for about 4 weeks prior to him being selected. The Club decided it would be in his best interest to not play too early.

Not sure how many saw the video Nathan Jones posted via his Twitter page, but watching Maxy play golf, I think that of he used his set shot stance on the golf course, he would have a lot more success than what he currently uses. For those that didn't see it, the golf club went a lot further than the ball did. I think you can access the clip through the MFC website/Twitter section. I'll try and post the link on here if I can, unless someone else can do it quicker??!!

TT, it was discussed on 360 last night. Robbo has a similar impression as most, that the result of Friday night was a big positive in us trying to keep him. They commented on the way all players got around him after he kicked his goal, even though it was a pretty standard 40m set shot. However, Gerard Whateley was asked if he thought he was staying or going, and he believes he is going. this was based on nothing, but Robbo did say that by saying this, he is in fact calling Tom a liar. There was one interesting point that I saw. Whateley started talking about this list of 9 names that he in under the impression has signed. Robbo asked if Scully was on that list, to which he didn't really confirm. I know that sounds vauge, but that's how it came across. But then in the next breath, Whateley put up a list of 7 players that it was public knowledge were on the shopping list of GWS, and Tom Scully's name was on that list, but so too was Daisy Thomas. I think they did mention that Scully MAY have signed a Heads of Agreement, and that after Friday night, he (Tom) was pretty adamant to stay a Demon. The thing with Whateley was that he didn't name any sources, and it was clear that he had no idea if Tom would stay or go. His opinion is gut-feeling, just like the rest of the football community. Robbo made the comment how one journo walked out after the presser and said that he was staying, but then Sheehan walked out and said he was going. This point about Sheehan is totally inaccurate. When Sheehan first walked out, he was convinced he was staying, and they even posted their online video thing and Sheehan confirmed this thought. However, in the space of a few hours, he was back on the "he's going" bandwagon. Personally, my sources say he hasn't signed anything. This is probably a more reliable source than what anyone else has mentioned, and I'm happy to name the source if anyone is interested. The other question I have for the forum is this opinion that he will be the poster boy if he were to sign up. I don't think this is entirely true. Don't get me wrong, I think he will be an amazing player, and is already showing he is well on the way to becomming a superstar, but is that enough to sell this to potential supporters? I have a couple of concerns about this - one being that I don't think he has the runs on the board yet to become a poster boy, especially if they were able to land Pendles or someone next season. The other being that I'm not sure if Scully is the type of person that would want that exposure.

I tell you something HG, being accused as a racist in a public forum is not only inappropriate, it is totally incorrect and offensive. You brought that matter to the attention of the mods by commenting on my post, and they had to respond. I'd like to think that regardless of your current title, they would not be taking any sides in the matter. I had a number of people agree with me that my comments were in no way disrespectful, and your reaction was laughable. If you had any issue with the matter, or took personal offence to it, you could've easily sent me a PM to discuss my comments, and if I saw fit, would've happily re-worded my post. A simple apology would have been sufficient, however, that would require you admitting you were out of line, which I sadly think that you don't believ is the case. Now that I have had my say, I'm satisfied to move on. I'd like to think this post remains visible, and isn't deleted by the mods, because I think it is a fairly serious issue that shouldn't be swept under the carpet. Every poster on here should learn from things like this. While it is an open forum, which will always see disagreements and differences of opinions, and sometimes we get each other pretty fired up, we all have one thing in common, and that's that we are passionate about the great Melbourne Football Club. I honestly don't think any poster on here would say something deliberately to offend.

So, in order to fuel your disagreement, you misquoted me. Hope it made you feel superior.

You've proved that anyone can kick a bag of 8, but I quickly changed that to bags, which happened before you started naming names. I did this because I don't think the OP wanted a flash in the pan, I'm pretty sure they wanted someone who could do it more than once. I don't recall saying necessary to have X Factor, I'm pretty sure the word generally has been used in my posts right from the start. For my benefit, can you tell me what post number I said that? Hopefully you haven't misquoted me anywhere Rogue. I'm more than happy to accept your comments if you can show where I have made these statements.
-
I actually did say that I think Watts would have the ability to kick 8 in years to come too. Does he have the Jurrah X-Factor? I don't think he does. but he certainly does have an X Factor about him. Looks like we are finally agreeing, my definition of X Factor is different to yours. Judd has X Factor, it's the definition of "X" that is proving to be the issue. Jurrah's X Factor, in my view, is differnt to the Stevie-J X Factor. My resistence to accept anything you have said in this thread Rogue is based on your comment at #67, so I apologise.

Maybe you need to go and see your psychologist then. You can use that "time stamp" arguement if you like, I was actually typing my post while you posted yours. I didn't see what you had written until I had displayed mine. Chances are you wont believe that, but I couldn't give a stuff to be honest. I am not modifying my contention - I still believe that players with X Factor are more likely to kick regular bags than those that don't have it. I have thrown in the Class factor too (albeit later in the conversation). So if you want to call that modifying, go ahead. I will pull you up on your comment about getting good delivery forward should make it easy to kick 8 in a game (2 per quarter). Mooney, who has neither X Factor or Class (in my opinion), has had probably the best delivery out of most in recent times, and he has never kicked that easily achievable 2 goals per quarter. But, you use a silly comment about kicking straight. Maybe you should modify your statement that forwards receiving good delivery should easily have 2 scoring shots per quarter.
-
It's the only bit I added extra in that post, but you still disagree by throwing up names like Hale, Tippett, Schulz, etc. The main reason I put it in there because you don't believe Le Cras or J Reiwoldt have that X Factor, which I think they do, so it made me start another category to ease your mind. To me you're saying that providing we have good forward entries, anyone on our team can kick 8. I disagree. It generally takes special players to be able to do it more than once.
-
Mooney has kicked one bag of 7 in a 200+ game career. Throw in there a couple of bags of 5. He doesn't have X Factor, and I don't put him in the class of Brown, Reiwoldt, etc. Tippett has done it once. I was under the impression that the OP wanted someone to do it more often than once in their career. Out of Tippett, Mooney and Jurrah, who would you consider most likely to kick a bag of 8 and why?
-
Rogue, my points that I have made clear in this thread are; - Generally, to kick 8 goals in a game requires a certain X Factor about them, or genuine class (thinking about N Reiwoldt, J Brown, L Franklin and even back to the Neitz days, and even back to Carey). There are of course exceptions, Josh Kennedy for 1, and as you pointed out, David Hale is another, but generally, it is rare for thost types of players to kick bags. - In response to the OP, I don't believe we need a full forward to be able to kick a bag of 8. I think we have got a couple of players who have the ability to do it, Jurrah at the moment, and maybe Watts in the near future. - I strongly believe that we need 2 bigger-bodied KPF's to help our team win a premiership. Looking at Watts, he should be 1, especially with a couple of more preseasons in the gym. We still need 1 more in my "ideal team". For over 18 months I have called for Stef Martin to be our Full Forward, which goes against what the OP is asking for. Stef doesn't have either the X Factor or the class (of those named above) to expect an 8 goal haul from at some stage each season, but we don't need him to. - Further to the above point, I listed the past decades premiership winning teams, and how their forward structure looks with twin towers. Only one side has won a flag (in the past decade) without a genuine 2nd big forward, and that was Sydney. Again, I need to make it clear that these players don't need to be dominant (as pointed out - Geelong didn't have 2 dominant key forwards). But to say that having a premier midfield is more imporant to winning a flag than anything, my only response to that is that it is a part of it. We have the makings of a premier midfield, our backline is virtually there already, so now we just need that extra big body (ie Stef Martin) to play Full Forward. From what I can read, I don't think I have made any other comments outside that belief. I have been of that opinion for many years now, and think we need to address immediately (which we may have seen last Friday night when Gawn started at Full Forward). Even through the years of having Neitz and Robbo as our forwards, not once did I have the confidence that we could win a flag with those 2 as our key forwards, Neitz - yes, Robbo - no. An extra tall in that forward line would've seen Robbo make a much better player. I'm sure Rouge you will find points to argue about in that. I await your response.

Well, if you are going to take inaccuracy in to the equation, Jurrah has had 1 opportunity to kick 8, and even Dunn has had opportunities to kick bags of 6's. Are you one of those people that are saying that if Mooney kicked straight in the GF against the Hawks that they would've won? Well, guess what, he didn't and they didn't. I don't actually think there are too many other players in the league that have that X Factor. And, over the past 5 years, how many players have kicked bags of 8? Of those that have, I believe most of them have it. I don't know what your point is Rogue.
-
Bit hard to win it when he's not nominated (yet). It does say to Round 11.
-
1 - He hasn't played for a few years 2 - I said "generally". Kennedy is the only player I can think, especialll that has played modern football that has kicked a bag of 8 or more and doesn't have that excitement that Jurrah or Stevie J has. Jack Reiwoldt has got it, so too Le Cras (in my opinion). TBH Rogue, Mooney hasn't kicked straight so what's the point in bringing that up? it's an irrelvant argument.
-
7 - a career best.
-
When was the last time a Geelong player kicked 8 in a game? They'd have the best delivery inside 50 in the league wouldn't they? Stevie J has the X factor, that generally players need to kick bags like that, hence my Jurrah call. Josh Kennedy would be an exception to that X factor rule.

I used to swear at the football, but have been clean now since 20th August 2009. Coincidence that that particular day was Robbo's last game?? In all seriousness; - The C word shouldn't be said at all - The F word shouldn't be yelled out in general player/umpire bashing. Happy for it to be said to your mate next to you in general conversation, or to oneself out of utter frustration - Racism is not negotiable (understand my view on the HG45?) - Personal attacks such as the Milne/Rapist or Krakour/Jail, I'm just not sure where I stand. I have once made comments about Milne, and while I try not to, I can't be certain I wouldn't again. Other than that, open slather I say. But, if a patron doesn't like it, and they mention it it an adult manner, I'm happy to pipe down.

There is an unwritten rule at football clubs that it takes 21 days for a hammy to recover. I'm pretty sure last Friday was day 20 for Watson, hence he was very close to playing. If you're Jnr McDonald, it's 48 days. Anyway, I don't think they will make any changes this week, therefore, Tappy will have another full week to recover and will return immediately to the seniors.
-
Exactly right Fork, and to be honest, they don't even need to take strong marks, providing we have good crumbers. On the other hand, imagine a forward line without those bigger forwards, especially in those pressure games when the Hail Mary's are flying around. Medium size forwards, ie Petterd, will get out marked more often than not, especially up against bigger defenders. I've posted a few times on this thread, but haven't really answered the OP. No, we don't need a full forward who can kick 8 in a game. Jurrah in my opinion is the only one on our list that has shown enough X factor to kick a bag like that, maybe Watts will one day too, but to say Jurrah is a full forward is not a smart move. We still need a Full Forward, Martin/Jamar are looking like the perfect options.
