  1. Move Newton - to Shepparton.
  2. I actually wouldn't mind betting that it is because Watts is our most effective disposer, so if he gets his hands on it in the back half, chances are it's gunna hit a target. I think Bailey has probably given Watts a bit of a licence.
  3. 6. Watts 5. Jones 4. Martin 3. Evans 2. Jetta 1. Warnock Warnock? Well, again he had zero goals kicked against him (from what I could see). While he was a bit rabbit/headlights at times, he is vital in that backline.
  4. Firstly, I am more disppointed with today's performace than last week. Big call? Maybe, but that's how I honestly feel. Out of today, and for the season to date, I have some things to voice, and welcome opinions. * Aaron Davey HAS to be dropped. Simple as that. His attiude, body language, and his total play is pitiful, and has been all year. I don't want to hear this crap that he should be moved forward - even when he plays forward he has shown nothing. Make a stand Football Department, give him a number of weeks at Casey. * One player that is on notice is Petterd. He was insipid today. There is a sickening amount of love on this site for him, but wake up people, he is one of our biggest front-runners, yet sadly, most of you don't see it. He is a Robbo 2.0, his 2nd efforts aren;t there, and he screams for free kicks that aren't there. When he decides to puull his head out of his a$$, he plays good footy, but like Robbo, that's not often enough. * Michael Newton must not play a senior game for the Melbourne Football Club EVER again. His errors were too costly, and this is consistent with every game he has played for the club. He did bugger all today, and I cannot see how he should be played ahead of Gawn. I don't care what you think of our ÿouth policy"in regards to Gawn, he is fit, we are in injury strife, PLAY HIM. * Matthew Bate = see Michael Newton. Bate is clogging up a spot on our list, and the change that I can see happen immediately is Bate out, Howe in. * Liam Jurrah is on notice. While he is a frak of nature, he still needs to understand that the AFL requires a level of discipline. While it is not in his "nature"to be coached, there are still basics of footy that you need to show, and he doens't do those often enough. * For those doubters, we WILL be a top 4 side in a couple of years. If both teams were full strength, we win easily today, simple. Jamar is the biggest loss our team has (hence my call to put Gawn in no matter what), we can't afford to cruise along the next 12 months hoping Russian doesn't break down again. * I don't know if Bailey is the right coach, but that's not saying he isn't. I think the Club, which includes us supporters, should do whatever it takes to ensure Bailey's future ISN'T questioned until the end of the year. Having questions raised every second of the day about who should be coach, isn't the best thing for the Club, and a lot of you have yourself to blame. There is nothing the Club can do in the immediate future (this season I mean( that will turn our season around, so let's show support rather than the idiotic comments about "Bailey MUST be sacked immediately", blah, blah. I bet he wishes that he could have 1/2 those players back that are injured - I'm sure his end-of-season record would look a lot different if they were playing. * Blease and Strauss NEED to be given games this year. If both those boys can play at least 6-8 games before the end of the season, we will go in to next season a better team. We saw today what a debutante can do that has been playing well at Casey, well, according to those in the know, Blease and Strauss should be given the opportunity. Maybe now that Tappy has done a hammy, it will open the door. * I hope the Watts and Jones baggers can finally pull their heads out of their a$$es, because if we didn't have those 2 blokes for the plast few weeks, we'd be feeling a lot worse.
  5. I think the reason why less people smoke these days is more because of the way they are treated if they want to smoke when they go out. It is basically an inconvenience to smoke these days, which I think is fantastic. It doesn't stop the addicted ones though. Maybe the appropriate authorities need to advertise more about the damage that gambling does?
  6. Sorry, I just feel that those who are put off by a gambling company sponsoring us are being quite precious. Do you think if we stopped gambling advertising/sponsorships/etc would stop people from getting addicted? Absolutely not. So why shouldn't we accept the money they are willing to pay us? Still waiting for comments about McDonalds/Junior Sports sponsorships, but I guess that's "different".
  7. This thread is getting beyond a joke. How many junior sporting teams cry out for sponsorship, and how many of them are happy to accept McDonalds as a major sponsor? Wouldn't that be advertising unhealthy eating - leading to more obesity within our children? A local junior sporting team are sponsored by a local RSL Club, but I can assure you, the $10k+ that they receive each year is a valuable contribution. I'm not denying that gambling, like alcohol and drugs, can have fatal outcomes for some people, and I strongly support the groups and resources that are available for this kind of thing. How many of you turned up to the MFC Race Day at Cranbourne (I think) earlier this year? I'm sure there will be some that wont put their hand up, but I bet (no pun intended) that you couldn't give a rats where the day was held. And I wouldn't be surprised if your kids loved watching the horsey's! I am a punter (horses, casino's, etc), and if I know that the next bet I place is going to have some $ go toward the MFC, I'll be happy to open an account. It is my interest and my form of entertainment, so why should I be treated like a freak just because of that? I do feel sad when I see people that are addicted, but that's life. Making gambling illegal or whatever will only create a different culture that people will become obsessed to. If we are going the moral thing, why not shut down Facebook, etc. How many marraiges or lives been destroyed because of Facebook? If any gambling agency is happy to put money in to the MFC, they have my full support. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones that can have a punt without losing my house, etc.
  8. And I bet he's Amped! I feel quite dirty after reading all this Jones-love on this thread, I think I'm going to have a shower. I hope he plays a good game Saturday, otherwise his bashers will be coming down from the hills to rip him a new one on this site. I wonder how many of them have posted fluffy stuff on this thred, that have canned him in the past (and will most probably do it in the future). Will be interesting to bump this thread after his (should it happen) next bad game.
  9. How can you say that? He has played 2 games this season, 1 where we flogged the opposition and starved them for opportunities and 1 where we were flogged and the defence were continually under pressure for 3 quarters. The guy has been published in the best players in both games, yet he is struggling? And not only that, in his games at Casey, how many goals did he let through? Yeah, it's only Casey, but it's still pretty bloody good form, good enough to give him a recall when the opportunity presented itself. He may not be in your top 22, but give the bloke some bloody credit.
  10. We're talking 2-3 years right? I personally see a lot of promise in Bennell or Jetta. I know there'll be some LOL at that, but I believe a couple of good preseasons, and either of those 2 could take that small defender role. They are still only kids, haven't played a lot of games, and can see either of them getting to a level that would be ideal for that role. It could also be a position that Jones may need to master, but he may not have the pace for some match ups. I would also be interested to know what position Blease will end up playing should he come on. I think Tapscott should make a name for himself as a Half Forward Flanker, rather than HBF.
  11. About the same chance as Barty playing that consistent level you spoke about. He may, he may not, all thouse players I named may come on, but then they may not. So, I ask you the same thing, what will our best 22 look like in say 3 years time? Does Barty sit in there? Which of the kids do you think will come on?
  12. Of course Nasher. Now, what I want you to do is jot down your best little 21+1, and base it on all the planets lining up and that our kids (Cook, Blease, Strauss, etc) take that step and consolidate a position in the top 22. I think you would have trouble fitting Barty in - I know I would most likely not have him in my team, and I wouldn't be the only one.
  13. Can't blame this on Crown though. I feel more safe in the Southbank area than I do in any other part of the CBD. We all have an opinion on Crown; yours is correct if you ask you, but if you ask me, mine is correct. So many people go there, so it has to make me right, but so many don't so it makes you right. To be honest, the last couple of times I have been there I haven't even gambled. Just enjoy the atmosphere, and they have some good bars and eateries, and it's a good perve too!
  14. Gee, that's right. Going through a personal battle at the moment and I know how much midspace that takes up, I couldn't imagine how much that would play on the likes of Barty and Aussie. Hard part about Barty is that when you sit down and do your dream 22 in 2 or 3 years time, he would struggle to get a game in most people's team.
  15. But still managed to spend $1500 a week at Crown! Very harsh on Crown WYL. I love the place and when I come back to visit family in Victoria, there's 2 places that I always have to attend - a Demon's game and Crown. No gambling problem, just think the whole Southbank experience is a great drawcard for the City, and for mine wouldn't be the same without the place with the big flames! If Geelong stop being sponsored by Ford becuase of the road toll, then I think we should not be sponosred by a gambling agency. I don't recall them being sponsors back when Ox and Ward were playing.
  16. Thanks for bringing that up WYL, I thought I dreamt it! Straight after the presser, Sheehan was convinced that Scully was staying, and even their little online video thingy they do he was sure of it. Then in a matter of hours, he was back on the "he's going" bandwagon. Weird chain of events!
  17. I will watch Colin Sylvia's game over the next few months to see if he has got what it takes. Sure, he's had off-field issues, but at this stage, he's the only one that could play in the guts and have an impact, then in the next play go forward and kick 4 or 5 goals. He is a potential match winner, has toughness, and I think that's what this Club is needing. If Green's form picks up by the end of the year, I'd leave BG as Captain next year, and throw the challenge down to any of Jones, Grimes, Trengove or Scully. While Jones isn't the most gifted in the group, he does wear his heart on his sleeve, and regardless of his form, he always puts in. He could be similar to that Kirk-style captain that some would like. That said, the 1 man that really wants to Captain this Club through the exciting years coming, I would like to think that they will make it obvious over the next 18 months. Who is it? I'm not sure. I wouldn't count out Watts.
  18. While there is a lot of Bartram juice flying around, imagine what he could've been had he not broken(?) his ankle back in his first season. Seemed to set him back in his progress a lot I believe.
  19. Poor Matty, is in our best for both games he has played this year, and his place in the team is still being questioned.
  20. So it seems all simple in you mind B59, but what part of "I'll leave my contract negotiations until seasons end" isn't simple for you, and you're not on your Pat Malone. Am I putting my head in the sand? Some would say so, but we have been told a story right from day one (last August), so I have absolutely no reason to accuse any party of not acting appropriately. It's sad how some people just wish for an issue so they have something to worry about. The talk of Scully more than likely going to Richmond is some idiotic theory that someone made up, with absolutely no evidience of this even being remotely correct, except those that read that he barracked for Richmond growing up. Much to the opinion of some, including you I think B59, Scully will play a massive role in our push to premiership glory. If we lost him, it would be a massive setback for our Club, our players, and us as supporters. Scully is no Brock McLean, this kid can and will win many games by his dominance. He is potentially Judd-like, and we all know how Judd can win a game on his own. Take Judd out of Carlton and they struggle, even with Gibbs and Murphy. Saying that Scully would be no great loss, or things like that the team is greater than any individual is nothing other than putting your head in that stuff you find at the beach that burns your feet on hot days. While I agree that 1 man doesn't make a team, in this case, Scully is the self-raising flour in a sponge recipe, without it it's a flop, but yeah, the mixture might taste nice for a while, but it wont win any prizes (far out that's a weird way of looking at it, too much Masterchef!). I believe he will sign, and that's based on nothing other than what I heard in his press conference. If he leaves, well, he's lied to me, my fellow teammates, and my Club, if that's the case, he will be hated. It will be as painful as some in here saying "I told you so". Whatever, you have no idea and you have a 50% chance of getting it right, good on you genious'!
  21. But sometimes it is a mistake selling/trading when the market ofeerings for such product is poor (ie someone running around at Casey). There's no denying, Cale is seriously out of form, but there is also no denying that he has serious ability. What is it costing us if we hang on to him for a couple more years? More to the point, if we get offered a poor deal this year, is it really worth taking? I look at it from the terms of how a player would go at another Club. There would be some real concerns for me that Cale would become a very good player somewhere else, where Bate on the other hand, I think we would struggle to get a game in any team. That's my attitude at the end of the year (with delistings and trades). I use the examples of Bruce, Cheney and Miller. 3 players who I wasn't sad to see leave, knowing that their impact at a new club wouldn't hurt us in anyway. What I am disappointed about is the fact that we only got 1 draft pick out of the 3 of those guys leaving (from memory! Can anyone tell me if that's true, and if so, who did we draft?).
  22. So are you saying that Garland asked to come off, but our bench (which includes coaching staff and medico's) told him to stay on? We have some issues at the Club at present, but I firmly believe that we would not be stupid enough to risk player safety/injury management.
  23. If this doesn't get taken down, and someone does get hurt, I'm blaming our medical staff.
  24. Anyone stop to think that it was Garland that said he was right? I don't recall Bailey or any of the medico's having an Xray maching up their a$$.
  25. [Deleted] If the delivery going in to the forward line, which is generally from the midfielders, is of a higher standard, you would fully understand how many of our forwards actually lead.
