Malthouse won't be at Collingwood in 2012
The Chazz replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
The difference between the 2 clubs you mentioned and us is that they had reason to put in a SUCCESSion plan. I will not entertain the idea of recruiting any coach with a SUCCESSion plan in mind. I just want the coach that will give us SUCCESS. -
Don't know what to make of this post. On one hand you are going the early (negative) crow on a bloke (Tom McN) that didn't play well in a NAB Cup game (aka PRE SEASON), has worked hard in the reserves all year and has been given an opportunity to play his 4th senior game, but if he plays well it won't prove if he's any good because of our opposition. But then you follow it up with a pat on the back to a guy (Tom McD) that is playing his first game after working hard in the reserves, plus you're going the early (positive) crow about how he could be ahnady player, and no doubt this opinion will be backed up if he plays well over the next 2 weeks...AGAINST THE SAME OPPOSITION AS PLAYER 1!!! Going by your logic for Player 1, if Player 2 plays well over the next 2 games, should we dismiss them because we are up against Port and GC? Typical attitude of some supporters on here. God help Nathan Jones if he has a bad game against "this" opposition.

Malthouse won't be at Collingwood in 2012
The Chazz replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am sick of this "succession plan" cr@p. Has it worked at Collingwood? All it has done is created unwanted press coverage all year. Let's worry about getting a decent coach first, then have that coach win us multiple flags (I'm happy for 1, but history shows when we win 1, we win many!). After all that, THEN I might consider who the next coach would be. At the moment, we got no-one. -

I fully understand the distinction, but I'm also asking who is going to make way should Neeld join us (even though it is highly unlikely that he will come). You're also right about having very little to go on in regards to our current staff. What I am observing though is that our backline has gone backwards this year, and you cannot argue that point. So I look at the reasons why, and the main common denominator is the departure of Wellman and the arrival of Royal. Our midfield just plain and simply lacks talent. The Jamar/Moloney combination is one of, if not the best ruck/rover combinations in the league, it's just that we are light on after that. Give this area another couple of seasons, and it has the potential to be our dominant area. Scott West would probably get a pass (in my opinion with nothing to go on). Our forward line have minimal structure, which is frustrating. Like the midfield, we simply lack quality. However, while everyone is screaming out for a big-body forward, and from memory the coaching staff said the same at the end of last year, I think we were too slow in trying Stef Martin there and rotating with Jamar. Perhaps I'm harsh on Mahoney, especially considering the limited opportunities our forwards have, but I'd still like to seemore structure. I'm happy to wait for development. There seems to be a lot of hyp around this Neeld bloke, and I'm a little bit unsure where I sit with him. It is well documented that Sanderson and Hinkley are the better 2 assistants in the league, so if I were trying to poach someone, it would be out of those 2 (again, very unlikely). The only way I see Neeld considering us is if Malthouse were coach. I have to say one thing though, I can't understand why you think Malthouse is going to come in, coach us for a few years and win us a flag, then walk away and give the job to someone else. What is a few? A flag wont be next year, and unlikely the year after, but after that I'm hopeful. If it is 3 years away, I'd like to think tha tthe playing group would prefer stability for the few seasons following that. Incredible to think you are already looking at a replacement for Malthouse, even though a> he isn't our coach, and b> we aren't a top 4 side.

Fully understand the OP, and think this is by far the best response. Some on here continually abuse others for accepting mediocrity, yet some of those are convinced we can't live without Petterd, interesting...

I'd prefer your theory behind the below as opposed to Laidley, AND he's available... http://www.smh.com.au/business/humphrey-b-tries-to-grin-and-bear-it-20110824-1ja78.html Edit - wrong link!

Just following up Gareth on why you seem to think we should poach Mark Neeld, if you don't agree with my opinion of our current assistants. Cheers.

I'm just glad you're off the Laidley campaign B59 - I knew you had it in you!!!

Wow, first time for the week that I opened this thread as I assumed it was going to be complimenting Jonesy on his 1%ers - how wrong was I???!!! The original issue is very harsh, or to the point, you have picked a very bad example of "dumb" football. If he gave a 50m penalty away in that area, it would've been a certain goal. It should be the umpire you are disappointed in. It's not like King played on straight away - he had time to go back, and that gave the umpire the time to set the mark. If the umpire set the mark where Jones was standing as he (the ump) thought that's where the mark was. So, if Jones had've claimed that extra 2 metres you wanted, a 50m penalty would've been the result. The "dumb" football that I see players do is when a ball is out on the full, as soon as the player steps inside the line, it's play on. They should instantly run off the mark at the ball carrier, as there will be no penalty. Players should be more aware of it, and if you want an example from last Sunday, Trengove came off the bench right near where a Richmond player stepped over. The ump called play on, and JT ran away from him going to his position. An immediate tackle would've almost seen a holding the ball free. Poor Jonesy, he has one of his better games of his career, and he always gets pinpointed for very minor incidents. I have to be honest, it does sh!t me to tears the way people are always after his blood for an error, which a fair chunk of the time isn't his fault entirely. What sh!ts me more is that blokes like Petterd and Grimes (when he plays) can get away with continual poor skill errors (in Grimes' case) and some of the most inconsistent form in the team (Petterd). Jones was the catalyst for our comeback in that 3rd quarter. If it weren't for him and Sylvia, we would not have been in that position at 3/4 time.

Are you going to attend our last home game
The Chazz replied to dees189227's topic in Melbourne Demons
Bartram? Are you serious? I am coming from interstate to see this game. It is a very significant day for my family (due to some recent family tragedies), and we are celebrating it at the MCG. I will be in the change rooms after the game to listen to the boys sign the song, and regardless of what people's opinions are, I sincerley hope that it is not the last time I get to go to the footy (approx 5 games a year) and have the honour of cheering for Scully! He is one of my favourite 3 players at the Club (along with JT and JW), and think our future is brighter with him than without him. Go Scull, and Go Dees!!! -
WYL - I have to ask (as I don't get the opportunity to see any Casey games), what impact has Fev had on our young forwards not being able to develop? From how I have seen it, Cook started the year really well and has dropped off in recent weeks (first season of AFL level - maybe fatigued?), and Fitzy has been injured for a majority of the year. Tom McDonald has been playing in the backline, which for a potential KPF isn't the worst thing for his development (see David Neitz), and has been improving week by week, and will most likely get a run in the 1s before seasons end. I'm not having a go at you at all, I'm just curious as to how much damage Fev is doing. FWIW, IF Eade were to get teh senior job, I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to throw Fev a lifeline. And some useless information for you, Fev will be on Celebrity Apprentice (not sure if that's been published, but it will be good for a laugh!).

Was having a shot at him RPFC after he tried to rip me a new one for suggesting our current assistants are like the training facilities at Junction. Found it amazing that if our assistants weren't in that category, all of a sudden he is trying to poach Neeld. Confused by his conflicting posts!
-
Why would you want to poach Neeld? What's wrong with our current assistants? I'd love to know which of our current assistant coaches you would like to replace...
-
I think Royal's role as defensive coach is not where he would be best suited. I'm quite sure this is the first time he has had that department, and while they are not on their own, I don't think our defenders have had a great year whatsoever. Is Royal to blame for this or Bailey? Well, the only difference from last year to this year is the Wellman departure and Royal arrival, and I think our backline worked a hell of a lot better last year than this. What is the source for West and the link to WB apart from the fact he played for them? I strongly doubt he is being considered at all.
-
Only basis I have to go on is the fact that whenever a head coach position comes up, and the various asssitnat coaches names are thrown around, we never seem to have any in our box. Names like Leon Cameron, Paul Williams, Neeld, Richardson, Sanderson, Hinkley, etc, all are considered for top jobs, but you never hear the names West, Mahoney, Royal. The only decent assistant coach we have had recently would have to be Wellman, and he was poached to join his little red and black boys club. Having the chance to see Viney in the media a bit proves to me that he could be a great assistant too (I think he would be a good senior TBH). I'd be stoked if we lost an assistant coach every couple of seasons becuase they got a senior coach role somewhere else. But you're right, I have nothing to base that judgement on, just my (outside) observations.
-
Don't get too worked up there WWS, Lyon always said that he would sit in the coaches box at times during his tenure, and, true to his word, he did this on Sunday. I'd be more inclined to think that he would've been monitoring the Assistant Coahces, in particular the information and views they were providing the head coach.
-
I just want him sacked Gareth. I don't care if he said something wrong or not! Our assistant coaches are like having facilities at Junction Oval.

Out: Davey, Sylvia (both suspended) In: Jetta, Tapscott * Can't believe there were calls to drop Jordie, quite amazing. * I'm one that thought Scully played a pretty bloody good game actually. I couldn't give a toss if he had 20 possessions in a game with 19 of them being handballs. I don't recall a better handballer to wear the red & blue. He has 2 games left to end a pretty tough year for the kid. Hopefully he can get through a full preseason, as we will truly see a different player next year (hopefully in the same colours though!). * If Warnock doesn't get a game this week it will all but confirm his departure next year. Sadly for him, I don't think he will get a call up. * I thought Jurrah had a typical Jurrah game. At times you wouldn't have been suprised if he finished with 10 goals, but then for most of the time he was lazy, lazy LAZY! * Bartram played well. Cotchin is a very good player, and apart from patches in the last quarter, Barty had his measure all day.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
The Chazz replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wow, I must be getting too old. I have never in my life said that a woman with a hot body has a "good frame". It actually doesn't make much sense when you think about it. If that made you cringe KIL, I think you better lock yourself in your room, with no computer access whatsoever. -
1. You shot down a poster in this thread giving you a list of names that were under your age requirement, then a different poster mentioned the name of a 22 year old, which you agreed met your criteria. Then when you were pulled up on it, the best you had was that next year he would be 23. Trying to use anything you can to make yourself look like the smart ass (as per normal). 2. Your initial posts on the Petter thread were totally incorrect. While this is an opinion thing to some degree, your constant ranting about Political Correctness is totally incorrect. Telling someone you are going to take their mother somewhere and rape them, doing this on 2 occasions, it in far from politically incorrect. What it is is out right disrespectful and has know place in society in general, let alone on a football field (which you seem to think is fair game). 3. Your constant opinion, an you're not on your own here, is regarding Mr Scully. You are certain that he is going to GWS, with absolutely no facts to back you up. In 6 weeks you may be right, but in the mean time, anything you say is complete rubbish (like most things on the Scully threads). When I asked you to come out with a simple Yes or No regarding him staying, you, which is typical, sat on the fence, trying to protect yourself just in case he stays.
-
Sadly, you don't know when you make them B59, and you will always turn agressive when someone pulls you up on something. Have a good day.
-
I ask that same question about most of your posts B59. You made an error in one of your posts, but yet instead of admitting it, you twist things around to try and make you look less of a fool. It is ok to admit you are wrong B59, it happens to the best of us. My input regarding your OP is in regards to the state of our list at the moment, and how much impact recruiting mature-aged, untried players will have. I have stated that there are minimal (if any) that have been picked up in bad sides and made an immediate impact. There seems to be a common trend that in the better sides with quality players around them, yes, they do play their role well. Sadly, Melbourne don't have the quality cattle around for me to consider this recruitment path in the immediate future, based on my opinion of the mature-aged draftees. And for the record, I don't think your thread title is really that ground-breaking. I'm sure we have had many topics, generally in the off-season, where the mature-age draftees were discussed. Your thread title is about 12 months too late, but the idea of recruiting 23+ year olds from other sources is about 2 years too early in our situation.
