Of this years leaders, Jones can easily hold his head up, and for most of the year Moloney can do the same. I think sacking the captain after 1 bad year is a knee-jerk reaction. His 2009 form warrants the captain title, but obviously, his 2010 form doesn't. But are we in a position as a Club to pick a captain each year on form alone? Even if Green has another shocker, which I have high hopes wont happen, we are not pushing next for top 4 stuff in 2012 anyway, so it wont hurt us too much. To expect a group of kids to be able to take on such responsibility is dangerous. Some will rise, some will do a "Greeny"!

Can't remember if I have posted on here, but I'm leaning toward this set-up for 2012; Captain: Green Vice Captain: Moloney Deputy Vice Captain: Jones Leadership Group: Green, Beamer, Jones, Frawley, Trengove, Watts. While I am as frustrated/disappointed as anyone with Green's performance this season, I believe it would be pretty ordinary from the Club's point of view if they were to strip him of his title after 1 season.

This is how the article starts... "TOM Scully is expected to visit Greater Western Sydney facilities in the next 72 hours. Scully completed two days of season reviews and is not officially required at Melbourne, so a decision on his future is imminent. The 20-year-old midfielder has received a reported $6 million offer from GWS, and a counter-offer from the Demons, but has been advised to fly to Sydney before making his momentous decision. Scully's management refused to comment... Sheedy said he was not aware of any signings. But he did urge anyone, including players, to visit the Giants' facilities. "We welcome all the AFL plumbers to come and check out Skoda Stadium ... and see where we are at Blacktown," he said." * Neither journalist have been told by Scully's management that Tom is going to check the facilities out. They refused to comment, which to me means more speculation from the reporters more than anything else. * The only source of Tom being advised to check out the facilities is by Sheedy. * The headline should say "Scully tipped to sign with Melbourne". This is based on him being advised by Russell Robertson to stay. There is absolutely no difference in this headline, as opposed to the one they ran with.
-
Where in the article is it saying that Tom WILL BE flying to Sydney to check out the facilities? It is another nothing article with absolutely no facts. It more sounds like a plea from Sheedy to say "don't sign with the MFC until you come up and see what we have to offer". But, that's been the opinion all year, most read the article and believe he's on the plane, while the minority actually read what is written and realise that there is nothing to suggest anything has changed.

Amazingly, and you will find this hard to believe, I didn't discuss Scully, sorry!

Was mentioned as a potential trade option for the right return. It could be a case of offering one of our "fringe players" plus a last round pick, and in return we get Dixon and a 3rd round pick, or something to that affect. The GC have a lot of KPP/Rucks, they wont be able to keep them all, and Dixon will be 21 next year, with the hope of playing more footy (only played 8 games this year). Perhaps we could offer Spencer, who could be a ready-made replacement for Fraser, which will give them Smith and Spencer to share the rucks.

I know that the Club made an offer to Clarkson, and that is not based on media speculation. The Lyon situation has been aired through the media, however, Lyon's management company have confirmed that Melbourne have expressed interest. Craig Kelly has been quoted on a number of occasions that this is true. He hasn't confirmed or denied if it is the deal that the media are reporting. The one I find interesting is regarding Malthouse, and the fact that everyone (media and some "experts") think Melbourne and Malthouse would be a great match, but there has been no rumours that I have heard that a move has been made by the Club.
-
Well, there was more than 2 that we really wanted. It is fact that we offered Clarkson a 5 year deal, and it was made public, which led to him re-signing. It has been aired that we have offered Lyon a similar deal, to which he has not yet denied. The only "offer" that hasn't been made public is one to Malthouse. OMR while complained we haven't seen anything, also later suggested that in his mind, the deal had been done. However, you decide to pick parts of a post to suit your insignificant disagreements. The funny part about your earlier post; you mentioned that both Malthouse and Lyon are still involved in the season, so they shouldn't "out" themselves, yet you have been squealing for Scully to come clean all year? Loving your double standards...
-
So you're not believing this speculation, which let's face it, has quite a deal of legs (in the R Lyon case), in particular with a betting plunge (which is far more than the $130 or whatever some here wish to believe), but you believe the speculatuion that Scully has gone, and criticise anyone that thinks differently? Perhaps you should practice your last piece of advice B59, it would do us all a favour.

Gawn to get 11 in 2 seasons* * Conditions apply.

I wonder if this article has anything to do with it... http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/malthouse-criticises-expansion-rule-20110906-1juvy.html

Thanks Harcourt, I'll get in to that internet thing one day. But actually, smart ass, it wasn't on the Herald Sun website, or the AFL website, or the Freo website when I had a look after you announced it, so I was just questioning where you heard it. I will wait for Thursday to see if the rest of your post has any merit.

Source?

I'd be offering a very late pick for Charlie Dixon. He is not delisted, so it would cost us something, but a 4th round pick would be good if it worked.
-
Disappointing if we are playing that game. Can't see any of the big teams being manipulated like that. I don't think the club knows.

What does the (Melbourne Football) Club achieve by keeping this quiet?

Colin Sylvia - commits to the Demons for 2 more years
The Chazz replied to MrMoose's topic in Melbourne Demons
Here's a theory for you... Col is due to stay up in Sydney this weekend. Maybe he, and a few other senior players, are up there meeting with the new coach, as currently, that person resides in Sydney... Ah, all the Paul Roos fans will love that one! -
Is it Myles? To be confirmed...
-
With a condition that we pick up his brother with a late pick?
-
Yeah, getting your odds slashed from $9 to $2 has as much substance as Bock getting his odds slashed from $101 to $26 to kick the first goal. Hang on a minute...

You would have to think it's Pendlebury wouldn't you? I know there were rumours about it earlier this season (which is against Sheedy's claims), but why would a player of his quality, and playing in the current powerhouse, agree to a 1-year extension? Something doesn't sit right in that for me - perhaps he is unsure what sort of impact Buckley will have as a coach. I wouldn't have thought it was to prove himself at Collingwood to be able to demand more money (probably has done enough for that don't you think?). The GWS signings this year will tell us a lot about who they are targeting next year. If they have a player like Pendlebury (A+ player), they will have to be paying him minimum of $1.2m a season, if not considerably more. If they are paying Ward $800-900k a season, they aren't leaving themselves much room to play with for ohter players at Ward's level of slightly higher (which I think Scully is at). I'd love to know how much Bock, Brown and Rischitelli are getting paid (each of those guys you would think would be more initial value than Ward and Scully).

I have seen Thompson mentioned a few times, is that Scott Thompson from Adelaide? If so, is that the same guy that we had on our list for a couple of years, and he decided that he was home sick so Adelaide picked him up? Why would he decide that he is willing to move back to Victoria to join the Club that he had an opportunity of being a one-club player with? Has there been reports that he is wanting a shift to a Melbourne club?
-
You would've lost your money becuase we defeated Freo as well. Edit - Nb. Freo weren't below us on the ladder, but we still beat them.
-
Any job applications like that in the future should be sent to M Sheehan, c/- Herald Sun. Thanks.

Has a presser been confirmed by the Giants? Can anyone tell me what time it is on and where I can see it please?
