  1. Perhaps I'm just too easily caught up in BS, but I love that Bomber's siren, just as I like the trumpeter that we have. At the end of the day, it's a gimmick. I don't get to too many games, but I watch virtually all games on TV, and I am sure a majority of our supporters clap along with the trumpeter and cheer at the end. Are you cheering because he has finished? I think not. You can actually hear it on TV, so don't say we don't go along with it! If we need music playing as the players run out to fire them up, we're screwed. If we were to change from the trumper, the only song I think would be worthy is Highway to Hell (AC/DC). It's a catchy song that you can sing along to, and even opposition supporters will clap to (albeit quietly). It's no different to when you are watching Richmond play - you can't help but say (or yell) "yellow & black" during their theme song (before the game that is - I hate hearing it after a game!).
  2. You're giving him a fair ol' shove to force him in to retirement, which could be argued that it's a year too early. If he decides not to retire at the end of the year, you're implying that he should be made to. Sounds to me that he's quite high on your list as a player to be moved on at seasons end, whether through retirement or forced retirement.
  3. Always good to read through old postings/threads like this one. Sometimes we get it so, so right, and other times we get it so, so wrong. A couple of classic examples; Who do you have to write your resignation letter out to Jaded? Wow Ned, just wow! Can you please give me the lotto numbers for this Saturday night? Cheers.
  4. Yet you have a crack at people who expected improvements this year? If we cull 5 or 6 of our older players (and it wouldn't be unfair), replaced them with 5 or 6 kids, our list will be worse for 2013. It hopefully will be a lot better by 2015!
  5. RR, I'm not sure if supporters believe he should go on, it's more about can he go on (for me it is anyway). We all know the writing is potentially on the wall, it's just that you think he should be the first at seasons end to be given his marching orders, where others are saying that there's probably 5 or 6 that would be ahead of him (ability-wise). If the coach is planning on wiping out 10-12 players from the list, Green will be one of them. If they only want to move 5 or 6 on, I'm not as sure. Petterd is a must, Bate and Dunn have to be too. Spencer has to be close (I don't understand your logic in suggesting Martin - one of not many players to show improvement over the past 2 seasons). Bennell would have to be doubtful for a spot on our list in 2013. there's 5 that I'd be wiping well before I looked at Green. We could still trade for an established mid with one of our compo picks (let's say our 2nd compo pick, 12ish), we still have picks 3, 4, Viney, a 3rd round draft pick and the player that we traded for. I would keep Magner and Couch on the rookie list - any talk of elevating them this year is totally premature.
  6. Obviously I have misunderstood, hence me using that line. It was relevant with what I was thinking you were thinking. Wow, too much thinking! I apologise for reading your post incorrectly. However, you can't dismiss wins from last year, regardless of the state of the opposition. We won games fair and square, and looked very good in some of those victories, to say that some people overrated those wins is and should be totally incorrect. You only had to look at our losses to know that we were a long way off the mark. the fact that we were still in a position late in the season to sneak a place in the 8 was more about the competition, not us. This year, we have absolutely gone backwards on 2012. I will not use any excuses for our losses, just as you should not use any excuses for our wins in 2011. I don't understand why a team that showed so much improvement in 2010 has managed to be such a basket case in 2012. Did I expect us to improve this year, based on performances last year? Absolutely, and I don't think I'd be on my own there. It's not a case of overrating our wins, it's just that level of expectation that we should place on our players, regardless of new coaching styles or game plans. I am also guilty of believing that when a team gets flogged by 186 points that improvement has to come. It hasn't. That's one of the reasons I'm disappointed with Neeld coming out saying how it's a blank canvas for him, and that he hadn't watched any replays of games from previous years. That's a bullsh!t attitude to have, and I'm in no doubt that is a major reason why we have actually gone backwards this season.
  7. I just don't know if getting rid of that many players is going to be the right move. I don't have to worry about it as it's not my decision, but I do worry about the future if we are bottom 4 for the next 3-5 years. It is a strong possibility, and that's regardless of getting rid of those players. All we can do is hope, but that hope is fast fading.
  8. Good work, you managed to make an excuse for all of the opposition that we beat last year, then in turn, we are making a number of excuses for our poor performances this year (ie Jurrah, injuries, Stynes, racism, blah blah). So are we saying that the only reason why we won certain games last year was because we were playing teams at their weakest point, then in turn, we are losing more games this year because teams are playing us at our weakest point? Obviously you're a Neeld fan, and good luck with that. But don't pi$$ down my back and tell me it's raining.
  9. That's my point RR, we get rid of all seasoned players and we are left with a couple of blokes that can hold their own but that's it. We won't have a single match winner, and while I understand what you are saying, playing a list full of kids for the next few years and ensuring this losing culture is maintained will be diabolic for the club. There would be other seasoned players that I would delist before Green.
  10. RR, there aren't many seasoned players that are worthy of staying, that's just the shite state our list is in at the moment. I agree, there's absolutely no use holding on to cattle for the sake of it, but if we get rid of those that are in that category, we'd be worse off than GWS and GC. I for one can't see Neeld wanting to go for the next 3-5 years of having the youngest list in the league and getting smashed each week. Imagine what the GC would be like wothout Ablett, and there's one thing for sure, we aint got a player like Ablett.
  11. I find this amusing that some are saying that this is Green's last year and that we hope that he makes the decision and isn't forced by the Club, yet people (I'm not saying you in particular RR) continue to whinge about letting McDonald go a year early. What was Junior doing that Green isn't? I personally believe Green's potential to be able to run one more season out (ie play approx 15 games) is a lot higher than Junior's was in his "last" year. To keep Green for one more isn't going to arm us too greatly. He is on the veteran list, is costing us bugger all (especially if we can negotiate a 1 year contract), and does provide experience that we are often complaining about that we haven't got. Congrats on the 250th Brad. Regardless of what eventuates in 2013, this is a milestone that we all agree that you deserve.
  12. It's an interesting one Choko. For most of the year I thought that the game had gone way past him, and believed that this would be the last time we see Greeny running around in the red and blue. Through poor form he was sent back to Casey, then had a troubled run with injury. To his creedit, and it shows as much about the bloke he is as well as his ability, he worked his arse off, got back in to the senior team, and is playing reasonable footy. I thought about it on Saturday night - there aint many times in his career where he hasn't given 100%. Unfortunately now, depending on his opponent, 100% will either see him comprehensively beaten, or come out with even points, the odd game he may even win his battle. Is this type of player worthy of getting 1 more year? I will sit on the fence. Part of me would love to see him go around once more, because you generally know what you are going to get with him (unlike a number of other players). Part of me wants him to do with dignity at the end of this year (would hate to see him finish his career playing a solid chunk of the season at Casey, which could happen in 2013). Tough one for the list management team, tough decision for Greeny, I don't think they can make a "wrong" decision with this one. Very much like the Junior scenario, although hopefully this time they will involve the player a bit more in the decision making process.
  13. Hope it's not the same doctor as the Adelaide Football Club. If his report about Dangerfield a couple of years ago landed Trengove a 3 week ban for a sling tackle, LJ may need to be prepared for the chair...
  14. WYL, you and I often agree on things, I'm interested to know where you think we are headed? I have grave concerns for the Club, especially if there is no obvious improvement before the end of 2014. I'm as passionate as any supporter. While I may not financially contribute as much as some, it makes me no less one-eyed. The fact that I sat there on Saturday night and honestly felt crook in the guts watching my team play the way we did, it was just heartbreaking. To tell me wife (non Melbourne) that for season 2012, I have lost all hope in the Club, and that I didn't really care what happened for the rest of the year, is just so upsetting for me. If Neeld hasn't lost a lot of players, I'd be awfully surprised. If a supporter like me has lost the passion (there's a lot to lose!) to support the Club that I have supported for over 30 years, I'd hate to think what is going through the minds of a handful of players. While I totally understand what Neeld is trying to achieve in regards to bringing a tougher, more contested brand of footy, I can't help but notice that a number of players look as though they have been totally drained of any enjoyment for the game, any confidence in their own ability to take the game on, any belief in each other. We do not play a team game, this is definitely one thing that lingers from the Bailey era - the most accurate thing I have read on here, can't remember who posted it (it was a while ago now), was that we were too busy developing individuals that we forgot to develop a team. Not a truer(?) word has been spoken on Demonland, and I have not seen any evidence whatsoever to believe Neeld has made inroads in to changing that. The only positive I have, and I will no doubt get shot down for this, is that I can't help but think we are tanking. Not in their right mind will GWS or GC bid for Viney with Pick 1 or 2, it won't happen, so the fact that we will get Viney with a pick in the 20's, and still have picks 3,4 & 12ish PLUS Viney, the tanking debate makes perfect sense. Neeld could do this without any player knowing any different. Is this Neeld's plan that Malthouse knows about? When Malthouse said the other week that he knows what Neeld is trying to do and thinks it will work, well, so far I'm fcuked if I can see anything that suggests otherwise. If anyone says that I'm being melodramtic, I will stab you in the eyes with a plastic fork. Things need to change, and it needs to happen bloody quick, otherwise we're in serious strife. You know the AFL community have had a gutful of us when we're travelling as shite as we are, yet the journo's can't even be bothered putting the blowtorch on us. No one cares about the MFC, and who can blame them?
  15. Neeld is getting players to play a style that simply doesn't suit them. Are the players at fault because they won't accept change? Should they accept change and do something about it? Is Neeld trying to turn some players in to something that they are not? Should we sack certain players because of this? A lot of questions taht will be answered between September and November this year, and not a moment before it. I had an idea that perhaps Neeld should be given free rein at the end of the year, sack 10-15 players that aren't willing to play his style, draft kids and trade in players that are willing, then give him the next 3 years to show improvement. At the end of the 3 years, Neeld will be forever known as the man that helped save the Melbourne Football Club, or will be the last coach of this club as we know it. Am I being melodramtic? I don't think I am. We will lose members at the end of this year, it's as simple as that. A team that appears to have gone so far backward in terms of their skill level is going to struggle in today's AFL. We obviously need to improve in so many aspects of our game that I can't find anything to suggest that we will be any better next year. I know we will get good kids at the draft this year, but we are kidding ourselves if we think they will come in in their first year and turn this thing around. This Club, our Club, MY Club, is in a very poor state. Another 3 years of this and something will have to give. I sincerely hope we improve for the life of this Club.
  16. Good to know I'm in the minority! I can't honestly be exact in knowing what the postcode is Jose, sorry. I have passed on the information that I was given, and it is from a very reliable source (for this particular topic anyway), up there with the Schwarz/98% type of thing, if you know what I mean. That said, I do have a feeling that the house may have a 32## postcode, which as you said, could mean absolutely bugger all in the scheme of things. Does anyone know where his Mum currently lives? I am told that the house isn't very far from there. The rest of my original post is choc-full of meaning.
  17. Are you saying footy is like war DC?
  18. Obviously Port don't want to lose him, but without reading the article, negotiations could mean a contract extension, or it could mean that they (Port) have received a quiet offer from a club, that Port are happy with, and are hoping to get Travis to agree to it. This post is purely speculation.
  19. FWIW; * Has recently bought a house in Victoria * Just wants to come back to VICTORIA - not fussed about Geelong FC * Club of preference would be Carlton as his Dad was a mad Blues fan (his Dad was the reason he played AFL and not cricket at the higher level), but with their salary cap, isn't expecting a deal to be done (and isn't too fazed about it) * Will be happy to play with the club that can do the deal with Port Don't ask about the worcestershire please.
  20. Carlton got Pick 33 and 67 for Sam Jacobs. Jacobs had shown a lot more in his 17 games than Spencer has to date. Adelaide needed a ruckman too. Again, like Mumford, you could tell that Jacobs was going to make it as a regular AFL ruckman, youcan't do that with Spencer. Nb. I rated Mumford very highly when he was at Geelong. Mark Blake had photos of Bomber, a midget and a goat; Mumford was bursting with star qualities but was never going to get a look in. While I accept your reasons for a trade with a club such as St Kilda, you are over-pricing Spencer. By all means try and get that deal (pick in the 30's) done though - you have my full support! Juice had 14 years in the system, didn't mean he was any good. Well, maybe 8 years, my point is that just because you are a tall, and that you've been in the system for a period of time, doesn't mean you're going to be any good. You have also proved your point about Spencer's worth. If he has been in the system for as long as he has, and has Gawn and Fitzpatrick already past him, why would any other club want him? Jolly was always going to be a top ruckman also. Again, I can't see that Spencer will be.
  21. For the first time in most of your 860-odd posts, I'm going to agree with you here! Joel Mac wears his heart on his sleeve, when it's his time to go he does it 100% of the time, and can really provide that level of maturity and offer leadership that is required from someone of his experience. But then he goes for 5 minutes where he can't take a trick, and it kills us! Do we keep him? The question should be who do we replace him with? Could it be Taggert? If so, I think Joel should be there for 12 months until Tags puts pressure on him.
  22. Both of Trengoves kicks were to Melbourne players on a lead, but the kick fell short. Both occasions. There is absolutely no excuse for either. The best option was to back himself by giving a 3-4 metre burst then have time to straighten up. He did have time to do this, but chose the high risk option of kicking non-preferred. Watts is generally a good left foot kick. The game in which Morton made "that" turnover (which was a left foot kick too from memory, just can't remember who it was agaisnt!), Watts cost us a goal with a left foot kick turnover. What is going on in the heads of some of our players if they decide to kick on their wrong foot, when they have just as much time/space to kick on their right? I think Neeld asked Cale the same question after that turnover.
  23. Our players try to be "too cute", and it's very frustrating. Twice within the first 90 seconds of Saturday's game, Trengove had the ball in the backline, and elected to with his non-preferred left foot. Both times, the ball didn't hit its target. I said to my wife that we will get flogged today if that's the mentality the Captain brings. I understand that sometimes you have to kick on your non-preferred, I have no issue with that, and it's good to see players that can do it. What I have an issue with is that both times, Trengove was trotting out of the backline, with an opponenet on his inside blocking his ability to kick with his right foot (potential smother). sure, the easy answer is kick with your left, but that's what I'm about, it's the easy alternative. Trengove had ample opportunity to have a 3or 4 metre burst to get past that opponent (working his angles), so that he had time to steady and kick with his preferred foot. It takes 2 seconds of hard work - on one hand increases the chance of being caught with it (although on this occasion the opposition were far enough away to get around), but on the other hand, it gets him on his preferred right foot and actually hit a target. There seems to be a little group of players that think that their wrong foot is as strong as their right foot - Grimes, Trengove, Morton and Watts are all guilty. Before some of you carry on, I just ask you to watch this week's game, or even the first 90 seconds of last week's game. You will see what I'm talking about and how accurate I am. It's not an opinion, it's fact!!!
  24. Won't happen. If Mumford was worth a late 2nd round pick when Geelong traded him to Sydney, there is no way known that Spencer is worth a mid 2nd round pick. Stef Martin would also fit in to this category. Blind Freddy could see Mumford was headed for elite ruck status, Stef could be a very good player and Pencil, who the fcuk knows where he is headed?! We should've let Bate go last year for the Bulldog's 2nd round pick (as was offered). He is not worth a 2nd round pick, so we would've been the winner from the deal. This year his value has decreased further. Petterd to the Gold Coast is a deal that would work. The GC would be more than willing to pay slight overs for an established player, and considering they have to get rid of a number of players this year, we could end up with a pick upgrade and a kid that hasn't been given much of a go. Perhaps we could offer Petterd and our 3rd round pick for their 2nd round pick. I like the idea of us being active during the trade period, especially if it sees us landing players of the Mitch Clark calibre. I'd like to think that Neeld won't be trading in players that will play mostly at Casey.
  25. Damn, there must be a heap of journo's that post on here then. Present company excluded, or included, your choice, I'm not fussed!
