Had an interesting convo with a club insider during the Casey grand final. Said we had too many players carrying injuries into the finals in Lever, Salem, Petracca , Jackson , B. Brown and Oliver, and that Fritsch who couldn’t jump because of a knee issue and Gawn with a sore foot shouldn’t have even played. Reckons that bar injury we will be back with a vengeance next year. Also said Joel Smith was offered a contract on low money which he didn’t accept and almost went to Sydney who offered him a 3 year deal.( Longmire is his godfather). MFC came back and upped the offer so he decided to stay.

I’m here hoping for a win. Not a bad turnout
-
One article?? Its a Grand Final !!
-
Disappointed there’s nothing about this game on the MFC site

Gee we must’ve been banged up or unfit ,mentally weak ,or something amiss to lose to that bog ordinary side in Brisbane I hope we get that mongrel back for 4 quarters next year.
-
I’m not talking about me , I’m a 40 year consecutive member, but some more fickle supporters may lose interest
-
Membership will drop if we lose both of our best youngsters in Jacko and Kozzie, it’ll be a disaster for the club.
-
My heart beats true page on Instagram and heard it discussed on the radio as well, so I don’t know where they are getting info from
-
Lots of noise about Port making a bid for Kozzie

Cornes is the penultimate boy who cried wolf . No one takes him seriously
-
They will most likely tweak the game plan next year anyway and who knows, the second Ruck may play loose in defense? Petty and Van Rooyen forward. Anything could happen
-
The Media absolutely hating on us this year. I can’t watch any of the footy shows anymore , King, Cornes, Whateley, Robbo, Caroline Wilson, BT, just love sinking the boots in.

He was coming back from a knee injury and then had stress fractures of his ankle. As long as our medicos give him the all clear I’m ok with it as he is 28 and if he can get back to full fitness could be handy for us, especially during this window of the next 3 years in that quest for another flag.

You may want to google that 😉

I’m sorry i was just asking the question no need for the smug tone champ
-
Well he hasn’t made an impact in a long time anyway. What was the injury keeping him out this year?
-
I rate Grundy, but he has to have no injury concerns, as he has hardly got on the park in recent years and i dont want a liability.

In Season - Loading/Periodisation: Put your conjecture here.

Whatever we did, it didn’t work. Second half of the year we looked flat. -
Brayshaw should have stayed at half back. He was in the all Australian squad because of it. I wonder if they pandered to his desire to play mid when negotiating his contract and played him there accordingly. Harmes did a good enough job as a tagger and they could have put a Sparrow or Bedford in the other wing

We need to change things up quite a bit. Better forward targets in Van Rooyen and TMac, but we also need X factor in guys like Monic Wakefield who impressed me this year. Throw in J. Smith and the forward line starts to look dangerous with Fritsch and Kozzie as well. Outs are Spargo, ANB and Brown Melksham Petty and Smith could be interchangeable forwards/backs when we need to change something up. Rivers and Hunt for Bedford and Chandler , and I’d play Brayshaw on the wing or down back. Bowey as the other half back option. Finally if we don’t get Grundy, then Weed would be a second ruck option as he is starting to look good in there, and will probably kick more goals than a Jackson anyway. He just needs to put on some weight and build up over the summer.

I really think it was our pressure around the ball and on the spread that hurt us this year. No where near last years levels. We strangled teams last season and forced them into pressure kicks more often than not. Fix that up and get in Van Rooyen and with TMac back as solid forward targets next year Will hopefully see us challenge again. On a side note you can see why we went hard at Jamie Elliot a couple of years ago, exactly the type we need
-
I look at the level of intensity, collingwood played at tonight , and ditto the swans last week and the lions in the second half, and we just didn’t have that same gut busting desire at all this year. It was like we were saving ourselves for the finals , but we played below our best so often this year it became the norm.
-
Brayshaw was outstanding when played at half back Oliver - Where would we be without him? May - Best fullback in the league Casey into a Grand final and only losing one game for the entire season
-
Premiers last year, then win our first 10 games of the season. In comes the Bye, then we fall into a huge hole and out of finals in straight sets. What the hell happened??

Were the second half fade outs , which ultimately cost us our year, lack of fitness or mental attitude? We couldn’t keep up with Brisbane’s run and spread in that second half and it was clearly visible who was working harder.
