  1. Their best chance would've been putting Buckley's senior coaching aspirations on the backburner and sticking with Malthouse. It's the epic fail that continues to fail, fantastic stuff.
  2. There should be more post-draft articles and books with genuine inside information. As bad as Prendergast was, it'd be fascinating to see what kind of mind-set he had going into the drafts and who the names were immediately on the board before/after the ones selected. More than anything I'm curious about whether Tom Lynch was the man for pick 12 in the Lucas Cook draft, would've been a fantastic selection and perfect for what we were looking for but he was unfortunately taken 1 pick earlier due to Gold Coast's bonanza of first round picks in that heavily compromised draft.
  3. Where the team is at now and where it was at under Neeld is like day & night. Roos has done a fantastic job and Goodwin is the hand-chosen successor, I don't have qualms with any of it.
  4. The issue being opportunity. Yes, some clubs might have knocked it back electing to upgrade rookies instead but the sheer fact the option was made available exclusively to Essendon and no one else is highly unjust. Port lost 2 players including their #1 ruckman, the tallest player on the rookie list is 189cm.
  5. - Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs: 1 upgraded rookie for each suspended player (1 for 1) - Essendon: 6 upgraded rookies plus 10 top-up players (16 players for 12 suspended players) This is what annoys me more than anything about the situation, it's so blatantly obvious all efforts to help those affected by the suspensions are being directed solely towards the one club responsible for the situation.
  6. For what it's worth it looks like Essendon stuffed up the picks anyway. I'll happily back in Mathieson to do more at AFL level than either Morgan or Redman. I also think Bonner and Balic would've been better selections than Essendon's choices. Time will tell.
  7. The BS and circus sideshow of Essendon in 2016 is already a joke. Making it a 17 team competition whilst EFC sit on the sidelines copping their righteous whack makes more sense than anything to me. But unfortunately Gillon is in charge and Essendon's best interests appear to be much higher of a priority than anything else. Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Footscray and Melbourne also have players serving sentences for the ban but only Essendon (the offending club, the only club in the wrong) has the opportunity to recruit players outside of their list for the 2016 season. Because that really makes sense.
  8. Out of all the clubs with banned players we definitely got off the lightest and the timing works out well enough as the list is into the early stages of having legitimate depth. I look at it like it's a player that's going to be out for a full season, which obviously isn't good, but with there not being an injury I don't think there could possibly be a better scenario for a player to miss a season of football. Without losing fitness or doing any rehab he's going to be hungry as all hell to get back and make up for lost time, along with repaying the faith shown in him by the club. Melksham in 2017 is a seriously exciting prospect. And on top of that, I rate Melksham. He was drafted in a year I paid a lot of attention to (we had picks 1,2,11,18)- he stood out as an under 18 and has been one I've kept an eye on since the draft.
  9. It doesn't appear to have been a lie. You can want something but want something else more. It doesn't erase the initial want. Carefully worded pressers can be deceiving.
  10. It's the most I've enjoyed a win in a long time. And what I love most about the Roos era is putting embarrassing records to bed. Adelaide at Adelaide, the Etihad hoodoo, Geelong in itself (let alone at Cardinia Park) and Collingwood. Beating Hawthorn and Norf in 2016 would basically complete the set.
  11. I really don't like the ex concept and I don't buy into it either. Buckley is in the midst of epic failing at Collingwood, just like Hird at Essendon and Voss at Brisbane. I understand the romanticism but the best thing possible for the club should always be top priority.
  12. I rate Bugg, he's a very solid run with player who can win his own ball, he will free up Vince and Viney and allow them to attack more. A fine exponent of unsociable footy.
  13. Maybe it wasn't a lie? He probably still wanted to be a one club player and would've been if GWS didn't offer him ridiculous money that only the likes of Ablett and Judd were earning at the time. Those are extenuating circumstances for a 19 year old who hadn't proven himself at the top level yet if I've ever seen them.
  14. With Melksham, Bugg, Kennedy, Frost, Petracca and Oliver coming in whilst only really losing Cross and Howe- I'd say Jack is going to find it tougher than he ever has to get games in 2016.
  15. The way he was getting into Pendlebury during the 2nd Collingwood game is probably the happiest I've been with a skipper since Neitz days. Making it even better was the part it played in a long overdue win against a side we need to be beating more often than not. The captaincy should be his for as long as he wants it.
  16. Almost expecting Jesse and Jeffy to kick a hundred between them. A KPF kicking 100 in his second season? Not so much.
  17. I haven't got a whole lot of interest in either of them. Trading our "2017 first round draft pick" for another club's first rounder in 2016 would be my preference.
  18. It's great to see the issue has grown as much as it has. What Martin did was totally unacceptable and it really looked like he was going to get away with it with a slap on the wrist until the uproar began. There has already been more than a few bad stories emerge publically about Dustin, it only makes you wonder how many more haven't made it that far.
  19. It looks like Fremantle, WCE, Hawthorn, Sydney and Bulldogs are locks to play finals again next year. Despite missing finals action in 2015, Geelong and Port Adelaide are also locks. The last team in the 8 to make up numbers could be anyone- though I can't really see a team outside of North Melbourne, Richmond, Adelaide or GWS taking that spot. I don't see much rising or falling happening as far as September is concerned. The bottom half of the ladder is a different story, so many young teams that are moving firmly in the right direction that it's too tough to call. But I will say Collingwood's list is being overhyped like nothing else and their new recruits aren't going to change a whole lot. Buckley is my pick for the next coach fired.
  20. The sub rule should never have got past the pre-season testing stage but what's done is done and it's finally been scrapped. Getting a game actually meaning you get a game is the way it should've always been. Guys like ANB and JKH I can see thriving in the post-sub football world. Neal-Bullen in particular.
  21. The dangers of placing all our hope in Barry P.
  22. I enjoyed reading the article about Oliver in the Hun today and the thing that really stood out was the McCartney factor. It really strikes me as being the perfect development coach for the perfect country footballer. Brendan has done some incredible things with young players at Footscray, it's exciting to see what's going to come of this.
  23. He needs a year at Casey to significantly build his size? Ok, as it currently stands... Hogan: 195cm 97kg Weideman: 196cm 94kg Watts: 196cm 88kg And I agree he needs to work on his motor but on that note it'd be interesting to find out what 2015 Dawes can do in a beep test. Anyone know?
